I’m enjoying another morning without the AC on, but I know that I will have to close the window and turn it back on as soon as the sun hits the wall.  I slept pretty well last night, but feel as though I had been up all night.  I still have a lot of catching up to do.  Fantasy football players, have your lineup set before this evening.  Staff, I have used up my free New Yorker articles for September, so it you want to post Andy, go for it.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:11 (average 4:40).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (GQ Channel): The Media Doesn’t Understand What Trump is Doing

Perhaps we should raid ESPN to get commentators for political news. RESIST!!

From YouTube (Funny or Die Channel): Porn Stars Hate Ted Cruz

Barf Bag Alert!!

Probably TMI, but very true. They also hate the Fuhrer, except as a foul target. RESIST!!

From The Last Word: Did Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi roll Trump on DACA?

After their second big meeting with Pres. Trump, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi say he agreed to enshrine DACA protections into law without a border wall—but the White House scrambled to refute that on Twitter. Ron Klain & Jonathan Capehart join Lawrence O’Donnell.

Schumer and Pelosi are telling the truth. As soon as Trump’s handlers realized he had caved-in to superior intellect, they sent Sarah Upchuckabee Sanders to exercise her PhD in Bullshitology. El Fuhrer no tiene cojones!! RESIST!!

  1. 4:28  Well, I know you won’t eat your relative.  Play nice.

Keith #121 – It is amazing how gullible these people are, isn’t it?  I’m not a professional, but I have no trouble seeing through him.  Europe and the rest of the world have no difficulty seeing through him.  “[A]s if you had to be an electrical engineer” to realize “the wiring had just caught fire”!  Perfect!  As to ESPN, well, there’s one pretty smart reporter there who is in hot water for calling a racist a racist.  Maybe she’s available?

YT/FoD – Sometimes it takes TMI to get a point across.  (I’m not sure either FoD or PP is 100% a “family website,” but let that pass.)

Lawrence – Of course Pelosi and Schumer are telling the truth.  After the budget roll, I told them to watch their backs.  And I was right.  I am reminded of the old Peanuts cartoon showing Luct writing on the chalkboard, “I will not talk in class,” multiple times, until finally writing, “On the other hand, who knows what I’ll do?”

Cartoon – Such a lovely racist piece.  If we knew all the verses, we would know that.  Much of the push, most of the push, to make it the National Anthem came from the KKK.  (What would you expect of a poem written for a drinking song tune?)

  2. Keith Olbermann #121:”No Trump is not pivoting, he;s just crazy.” Again spot on. Any one writing or speaking for a media outlet that still expects Drumpf to suddenly turn sane after more than a year of insanity and is still hanging on to the faintest shimmer of hope that he finally has, or will do soon, should hand back his salary.

FOD: 333333, especially the last line: “This is a family website”. Ted Cruz must be the politician that disgusts the most people if even the porn stars don’t want him to watch their videos because it gives them the creeps. Way to go, girls.

TLW: Schumer and Pelosi did roll Drumpf on Daca, of course and everything they said about it is undoubtedly true. But they would be fools if they take Drumpf’s word on this “deal”; Drumpf is already backpedaling, simply because he didn’t have a clue what he agreed to and had to have it explained to him by his staff first. Now that he has a tiny grasp on what happened, he’ll just deny it ever happened. Fake deal.

Glad you’re able to catch up on some sleep, TomCat.

  3. Olbermann: The media just doesn’t get it at all and they don’t report it at all regardless of the type of news it is. Lately for the past two years, the news outlets have abdicated on reporting the news like Climate Change, Drumpf’s background and the lies he tells as well as on many other items. Yes, the press really is gullible as are many people as well. There is no way Drumpf could ever become “presidential”, no fricking way. ”No, Drumpf is not pivoting, Yes, he’s just crazy”.

Funny or Die: I had a good laugh with this video.

Last Word: Personally I would believe Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi than the WH staffers and Sarah Upchuckabee Sanders (such a fibber & alt-right propagandist/ believer). Drumpf most likely will deny ever having made a “deal” with Schumer and Pelosi, better yet, a lapse of memory. Oh wait, memory lapses are Jeff Sessions’. lol.

Cartoon: The third stanza is racist.
…”This inspired Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner” right then and there, but no one remembers that he wrote a full third stanza decrying the former slaves who were now working for the British army:

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

In other words, Key was saying that the blood of all the former slaves and “hirelings” on the battlefield will wash away the pollution of the British invaders. With Key still bitter that some black soldiers got the best of him a few weeks earlier, “The Star-Spangled Banner” is as much a patriotic song as it is a diss track to black people who had the audacity to fight for their freedom.”…

    • I have just been educated!  The story line about the teachings in schools encompassing less than half the story is so trenchant!  We are taught myths, and the country lives on its myths, as I’m sure, other countries do.

  4. KO: “Noooo….he’s (dt) just crazy!” Yep!!!

    BBA: Good one, Ladies!

TLW: dt needs to stay off of twitter. I also agree that Mr. Schumer and Ms. Pelosi went to the meeting with well intentions, I hope what they proposed, stays. dt is not to be trusted. At All !! Btw…..Screw the wall !!!

Beautiful day here. Hope your good weather continues. Enjoy your day/evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  5. Housekeeping Note:

Tomorrow I will be traveling to northern Iowa for my sister-in-law’s funeral on Saturday morning – so I again will miss doing “Friday Fun”.  Hopefully that’s the last time for a long time, and things will get back to a more even keel.

I was going to go up Friday and stay at my Mom’s so I could take her.  But she didn’t feel comfortable making that long of trip (~150 miles one-way, then back the same day) w/ her wheelchair, and my aunt decided to also not go (she is 89, after all), so I will stay in the same motel as my brother and his son-in-law’s family.  (He declined staying in my room because he wanted a smoking room because of the stress.)

My nephew, wife & 2 boys will be coming from the SF Bay area, so at least that will be nice to see them for a bit – just wish it were happy circumstances.

    • Normally I’d wish you a good trip, but under the circumstances, you are in my throughts and prayers to complete it with a minimum of hardship and pain. 35

    • Well, I’ll wish you a good trip, good meaning that go safely and return safely, and that seeing your relatives will help comfort you and that seeing you will help comfort them.  And. should you have occasion to smile, or even laugh, don’t feel guilty.  That’s one of the things funerals are for.

  6. Keith: Yes, “He’s just crazy!”  ‘Nuff said!
    Funny or Die: Yes, funny!
Last Word: Sarah?  Someone thinks I’ll believe what Ms. Huckabee says? Maybe when she speaks while being Raptured up…or would that be ruptured?

  7. Puzzle — 3:09 Like JD, I do hope you would not eat a relative.  But just in case, I removed any doubt for this little puddy tat.  However, I can tell from his right ear, he is a scapper so you probably would not win a fight with him.  You’re much too nice.

Keith O — When a person is not doing their job, they are fired.  When a business is not doing the job they are supposed to do, they get boycotted.  In the case of the media, that shows up as either readership or ratings, depending on the mode.  When it is virtually the entirety of the televised media, boycotting is not going to happen.  Everything then becomes problematic.  I like your idea of bringing in ESPN commentators.  They know how to call the play by play, a very factual exercise.

Funny or Die — Ted Cruz???  Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!  The ladies are so correct!  I might also say, before a certain unnamed puddy cat says something, Ted Cruz is not a Canadian.  Although he lived here for 3 or 4 years, he is all yours.  Keep your trash on the south side of the 49th parallel!

The Last Word — Drumpf and his administration have almost as much credibility as the Republican party, which is not saying much for the Republican party since Drumpf and his administration have less than no credibility.  Now I am not saying that Pelosi and Schumer are angels, but I believe them.  If Drumpf goes back on his word to the Dems, he is screwed at getting any legislation accomplished and he hinders the Republicans up for reelection, particularly those with large portions of his base.  If he sticks with the agreement, he alienates himself from the Republicans that he supposedly leads, and his agenda goes nowhere.  He needs both Republicans and Dems if he is going to accomplish anything at all before midterms.  Dems need to hold that line.  Play hardball.

Cartoon — The Battle of Baltimore (Fort McHenry) which the Americans won against the British during the War of 1812.  The British however won the War of 1812.

I am glad that you at least slept all night.  God willing, you’ll get a good sleep tonight.  I slept well last night, a big change from the night before when I managed to put my ribs out somehow.  While sleep helped ease the pain, the chiropractor was able to crack them back in place today.  They are still tender but that too will pass.  I get a bone density test tomorrow so that should be interesting.  My mother and her mother both had osteoporosis and I may too.  When I broke my ankle 15 years ago, the surgeon said I had very thin bones yet at that point I wasn’t subject to fractures.  So we will see.

    • I intended to invite that kitty to dine on flamingo.  Had you not Squatched him away, he could have been blowing pink kitty farts right now. 22

I hope your ribs are OK. 04

  8. Thanks all.  Hugs! 29

On the third stanza, I agree with you guys, but in the interest of fairness, there is another school of thought.  Hirelings may refer to Hessian mercenaries, and slaves may refer to impressed sailors.

    • Regardless what Key meant, in 1931, when the piece was adopted as our National Anthem, immediately after the decade when the Klan had more political influence in more states than at any previous or subsequent time in history, does anyone really believe the Klan was thinking of Hessians?
