I’m about to leave for my annual Medicare Wellness exam, and I’ll complete this section when I return.

I’m back late, because the TriMet Lift Bus misses my window and had several stops along the way.  However, thew appointment went well, and I’m an A1 Certified Prime Puddy Tat!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:38 (average 5:26).  To do it, click here. How did you do?

Short Take:

From Huffington Post: Seven years of Republican promises to repeal the Affordable Care Act withered away to almost nothing on the Senate floor early Friday morning.

The Republican majority in Congress has voted dozens of times since 2011 to repeal all or part of the Affordable Care Act, and a central element of the GOP’s pitch to voters during last year’s election was that giving Donald Trump the keys to the White House and leaving Congress in the Republican Party’s hands was all that was needed to bring an end to Obamacare.

But when presented with their first genuine opportunity to do so ― and to have to answer for the consequences ― enough Republican senators flinched that the effort failed, despite pressure from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and President Trump. Voting to dramatically increase the number of uninsured Americans is easier when you know it can’t happen than when you know it will.

The final vote for the Health Care Freedom Act, designed to eliminate core components of the Affordable Care Act, went down on a 49-51 vote, with Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, John McCain of Arizona and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska joining with all 46 of the chamber’s Democrats and both of its independents to defeat the measure.

Woooo Hoooo Phew!!!

  1. 5:28  I’m not good with flowers, and they return the favor.

VoteVets latest  (new subject, I realize)

HuffPo – McCain really surprised me, and probably all of us.  I briefly commented last night it was almost Shakespearean, and the line I was thinking of was (not that I am trying to bury him before he is dead; I wouldn’t do that even to a Republican) “Nothing in his life became hm like the leaving of it.” (Macbeth Act I scene 4)  He is alive, certainly, but he must be staring death in the face.

    Cartoon – So true.  Sigh.

  2. HP: It was pins & needles watching the video of McCain saying ‘NO’, and like to fell out my chair. Kudos to those Repugs who stood against this travesty of the HCFA, bravo!! Thanks to those who called, persisted, AND resisted!! 😉

    Cartoon: Amen & Hallelujah!

It’s been a good good day, and PTL for that! So glad to read that you are in A1 condition! WooHoo!! Enjoy, relax, and have a good evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

*Joanne, have signed petitions against this ruling of Trans in the Military. Very, very discriminatory. I knew several wonderful sailors/marines who were gay, and this in no way impeded their time or conduct in service, nor their careers, as they were good friends of mine.  This also applies to trans, after all, aren’t we all of one mold as a person? Trust me when I write, it’s all good for all of us.
ps. Screw dt for vetting anyone who he thinks is a ‘danger’ to the country, whether it’s trans, refugees, or protesters.
    RESIST!

  4. Puzzle — 4:25  Pretty posies!  They would look great on my mantle . . . if I had one. (Sigh!)  Always wanted one!

Huffington Post — How many more times are American citizens going to be subjected to this Republican healthcare bullshit?  . . . aka Republican deathcare!

    Cartoon — Amen!!!

Further to JD’s VoteVets video which is very good, Huff Post has a video about the 18 countries that allow transgendered in the military.  I am happy to report that Canada has done so since 1992 and has had a gender neutral fitness test since 2014.

    Resist, Persist and Remove!!!

I am glad that today’s medical went well but sorry the transport was a pain.  Around 1500 hours my 3 furbabes came downstairs which must mean it is getting hot upstairs.  Two are on the floor by the patio door cooling their jets.  Stay cool everyone!

  5. Congrats on your A1 Medicare certification, TomCat, although it feels strange to congratulate someone on having all his medical problems recognized by the medical authorities. But you’re glad about it, I’m sure. You can now -still- get all the care you need.

HP: For now the ACA is safe, but Democrats better not start resting on their laurels, the battle isn’t over yet. The GOP will retreat to the dark backrooms again, and nobody will know what they’re brewing there until the House and/or Senate is called to vote on the result again. Enjoy the victory and the respite, but stay vigilant. Drumpf has already called out against transgenders in the armed forces and has now fired Reince Priebus and appointed retired general and current secretary of Homeland Security, John Kelly, as his Chief of staff. Diversions abound.

  6. Not only did I enjoy McCain’s theatrical “Thumbs Down” vote – I really liked the “Evil Eye” he gave to Mitch McTurtle right afterwards.

If that look didn’t shout out “F U” (and I don’t mean the medical meaning of “follow up”) I don’t know what does!

  7. Thanks all!  Hugs! 19
