Today’s forecast high in 85°.  The humidity is 68%.  It’s the coolest day in the next two weeks.  This afternoon a Social Worker from Providence Elder at Home is stopping by to scan my Advance Directive into my records.  In summary, if it appears that survival is either likely or unlikely, resuscitate me by scratching my back and giving me coffee.  Tomorrow I have my annual wellness exam for Medicare done by Ellie, my PCP’s PA.  I’ll be leaving early in the morning and be gone half the day.  I will probably publish only a Personal Update, or at most an Open Thread.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:24 (average 4:56).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

From YouTube (Funny or Die Channel): Donald Trump’s Temporary Bone Spurs

Cleary TBS is too great a handicap for the Fuhrer to remain in office. RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Saying that the problem “is far worse than I imagined,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday urged First Lady Melania Trump to intensify her campaign against cyberbullying.

Speaking to reporters from his office at the Justice Department, Sessions said that, whatever Mrs. Trump had done to eliminate the scourge of cyberbullying, “It clearly has not been enough.”

“From my perspective, cyberbullying is very much a growing problem,” he said. “And with every passing day it gets worse and worse.”

Dang Andy! Isn’t it just like KKK Beauregard to hide behind the only skirt, the contents of which Putin’s Pervert doesn’t want to grab? RESIST!!

From NY Times: The Senate on Wednesday soundly rejected a measure that would repeal major parts of the Affordable Care Act without providing a replacement, leaving Republicans still searching for a path forward to fulfill their promise of dismantling President Barack Obama’s signature health law.

Seven Republican senators joined Democrats to vote against the measure, which had been embraced by conservatives but could have left millions of people without health coverage.

The rejection of “clean repeal” laid bare the deep divisions within the Republican caucus about how best to proceed. The night before, nine Republicans, including both conservatives and moderates, voted against comprehensive legislation to repeal the health law and provide a replacement.

Without the votes to replace the health law or to simply repeal major parts of it, Senate Republicans appeared increasingly likely to try to pass a modest measure that would repeal only a few provisions of the law, such as the tax on medical devices and the requirements that most individuals have insurance and that large employers offer coverage to workers.

But even that narrow bill could have a significant impact on the nation’s health care system. Democrats on Wednesday night released a Congressional Budget Office analysis of the effects of repealing several provisions that could be part of a “skinny” repeal measure. The analysis found that the number of uninsured people would increase by 15 million next year compared with current law, and Democrats said they were told that premiums would be roughly 20 percent higher… [emphasis added]

Call your Senators! RESIST!!

  1. FOD: omg. Priceless!!

NYer: Andy is so spot on with this, so true!

NYT: Yes, keep the pressure up, and continue to Persist, and Resist!

Hope that your exam goes well, safe travels to & from also. Hope you have a good evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.*Had a 60 acre fire here yesterday, a man was welding, (making a fence) and the sparks ignited heavy vegetation. I have a lot to be thankful for as it was contained. Wish I could say that about the current administration, but I can’t.

    • Glad you are okay, but does this mean that you will have grilled veggies for the foreseeable future?

    • Happy to hear you’re OK, Pat. But 60 acres burning near to where you live, that must have been scary. I hope that neighbor had his comeuppance and will now take any welding he needs to do inside.

    • I’m relieved to hear you’re safe! 19

  2. 5:01  Moving slowly.

JUST got back from renewing my driver’s license for another five years.  Whew!  Hope your tomorrow is better than my today!  But at least it’s over – for now.

FOD – Someone commenting late yesterday on the transgender tweet referred to him as “President Bone Spurs.”

TNY – He is such a misogynist (Jefferson Beauregard, I mean) I’m surprised it even occurred to him.  It’s a great idea, though.

NYT – So what is Congress’s responce to the COB figures?  Why, get rid of the CBO, of course!

Cartoon – It is indeed.  Sorry, Mr. Sunbeam, not today!

    • This is very late and may well be overlooked, but this is when I am seeing it.

      Two words.

      MAISIE.

      HIRONO.

      • Thanks Joanne!

As DK states: A true American Hero who interrupted her treatment to do her political duty despite her terrible prognosis. Kudos to Maisie Hirono. Please read the article under the first link and sign the petition to thank her under the second link in Joanne’s comment.

      • Thanks JD!  Most definitely signed with comment.

      •
        I signed the petition.

    • If your DMV is anything like our DMV, I understand. 18

      • Well, just between you and me, the DMV was pretty good.  I was in and out of the building in not much more than a half hour.  Then I flooded my engine in the parking lot. where I was blocking traffic.  I called for roadside assistance, which was so slow (this is unusual BTW) I had to call back a couple of times.  The last time I asked to rep to hang on with me so I could try again and see whether the engine was un-flooded, and it was.  But that was two and a half hours wasted.  And our weather is much like yours, adjusted for altitude.  It was in the low 90’s and 40-50% humidity.  It did wilt me.

  3. Funny/Die: Poor baby, ohhhh.   This is a new meme for GOPig presidential candidates: Wave the flag, but avoid service with the best? of them: Georgie Boy and Donny Boy!
Andy: Another poor baby, ohhh.  Here is something close to what was seen on a TV screen, while at the gym, earlier today, from CNN: “Numerous Republicans Come To Sessions’ Defense As Trump Continues to Attack Him.”  So, the issue for the GOPigs is not whether, or not, they are swimming in the cess pool, but whether they are swimming in the shallow, or deep end!
NYT: Nice to see the bastards squirm a bit!
TC: I also hope all goes well tomorrow!

  4. That cat says it all! You should see my furbabies Aida and Helena when it gets real hot – stretched out on the floor like a couple Gumbys.

  5. FoDC: TBS, never funny…except in this “ad” which is of ROTFLMAO quality. After a raised eyebrow or two by the Dutch, for whom the acronym TBS stands for tuberculosis. Hmmm…that got my thoughts going…

TNY: Great job, Andy, humorously killing three birds with one stone. Melania having “forgotten a la Sessions” to do anything about cyberbullying – another promise broken, the never-ending (cyber)bullying of husband Drumpf and the pathetic meekness of Sessions. All that in a few lines. A pity it didn’t fit in a tweet; I know just who to send it to.

NYT: Latest update from that same NYT:

Senate Rejects Health Law Repeal, With McCain Casting the Decisive ‘No’ Vote

Defeat Derails 7-Year Campaign by the Republicans

By ROBERT PEAR and THOMAS KAPLAN 3:53 AM ET

Senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski also broke Republican ranks. The vote may spell the end of the party’s efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act anytime soon. [emphasis mine]

President Trump quickly took to Twitter: “3 Republicans and 48 Democrats let the American people down.”

It’s remarkable that the little bit of sanity left in the GOP is concentrated in two women and an elderly gentleman who just had brain surgery. And of course the Twitler isn’t above cyberbullying them.

Cartoon: Too hot perhaps, but terribly cute nevertheless.

I hope your Medicare exam went well and the heat didn’t exhaust you too much, TomCat.

  6. TEMPORARY BONE SPURS!  No wonder the poor man couldn’t serve, I bet the spurs went to his brain!innocent
The New Yorker:  I bet Sessions wishes Andy could save him.
NY Times:  We got a temporary reprieve and Trump is having a tantrum.  McCain surprised us all.
Cartoon; Same here, and now we are flooding again, in the area, not me..

  7. Puzzle — 4:21  I was slowed down by the heat and sun!

Funny or Die — If TBS is enough to exclude one from military service, then how can one legitimately be the Commander-in-Chief of the nation’s military?!  Drumpf should be deferred from being POTUS!

The New Yorker — Isn’t there a conflict of interest for Melania Drumpf between standing against cyberbullying and being married to the Cyberbully-in-Chief?  One more conflict of interest in the Drumpf family!

NY Times — Even with the Republican skinny repeal, “…the number of uninsured people would increase by 15 million next year compared with current law, and Democrats said they were told that premiums would be roughly 20 percent higher…” This is totally unacceptable!!!

Back in 2015, Susan Collins was apparently the only Republican to against that iteration of a Republican healthcare bill.  I remember just a short time ago that John McCain said he would vote for debate, which he did, but he said he would vote ‘no’ on the Republican repeal/replace or straight repeal.  My initial thought was “I’ll believe that when I see it.”  I now believe.  I wonder if he had a ‘come to Jesus’ moment during his recent surgery and pending treatment which left McCain thinking “I’m covered but what about others in a similar situation?”.  One can only hope that that might have been his thinking and that it could be contagious!  The Cyberbully-in-Chief singled out Lisa Murkowski for his own brand of ridicule in a tweet.

Cartoon — AMEN!!!  My three retreat often to lying in the dark under the bed in the morning before upstairs gets too hot.  I also have the patio door wide open so they will often rest beside it on the wood floor in the afternoon and evening.

    Resist, Persist and Remove!!!

Well I hope your appointment went well this morning and you are not too fatigued.  The heat is bad enough!  I was late in getting home from teaching last night so I am late in commenting.  Dinner was stuffed grape leaves which was so good, although I ate about half last night and the other half this morning for breakfast — yum!!!  They were stuffed with meat and lentils.  I now have a stuffed red pepper for lunch.  Do I eat well after teaching, or what!!!  It is supposed to be beastly hot this weekend and then head into the 30s C (86 – 95 F) starting Monday.  Ugh!!!  However on a more positive note, about 10,000 of the fire evacuees have been allowed to return home but are on alert to leave again if the wildfire situation heats up again.  There are still others who cannot return yet.  I have no idea how many are returning to homes in ashes.

  8. Thanks all.  Hugs! 29

  9. Sorry to say this folks, But The OXYMORON of 20 17.” American INTELLIGENCE ” !!!

  10. Thank you, all, for your comments re: fire. ugh!
