Almost six months into the Residency of Putin’s Puppet, the Republican Reich has accomplished less than any administration in our nation’s history.  The rabid Republican base are howling desperately, with gangs bared, for a win.  Bought Bitch Mitch and the Republican Party [R-KY] do not care how sleazy they has to get, how deeply they have to harm the economy, and how many people they have to kill to to keep their deplorable base loyal.

Senate Democrats plan to go all out in their protest against the GOP healthcare bill starting Monday night.

Lawmakers in the party plan to use a series of stall tactics to try to draw attention to the way Republicans are writing their version of the American Health Care Act and to protest the policy changes that are expected to be in the bill.

A Democratic Senate aide told Business Insider the move would consist of four measures:

  1. Objecting to nearly all unanimous-consent requests, which are used to more quickly act on requests or resolutions that have bipartisan support. While this will not prevent any measure from passing, it can slow down proceedings significantly. The Democratic aide said some resolutions would be allowed through, such as a resolution honoring the victims of last week’s congressional baseball shooting.
  2. Submitting a series of unanimous-consent requests designed "to attempt to force the House-passed healthcare bill to committee," delay a series of votes on the legislation, "and increase transparency, forcing Republicans to publicly defend their ‘no hearings strategy.’"
  3. Using a series of parliamentary procedures "to highlight the difference between the open process used to pass the Affordable Care Act and the process Republicans are pursuing now."
  4. Highlighting healthcare issues "late into the evening in a series of speeches."

While none of these measures can hold up the bill indefinitely, the Democratic protests would slow down the Senate business and most likely bring more attention to the issue…

From <Business Insider>

Even if they are unable to prevent it, Democrats must still put up the biggest fight in history.  Chris Hayes interviewed Bernie Sanders, who summarized the situation perfectly.

Rachel Maddow interviewed Oregon’s Jeff Merkley about Republican tactics and the Democratic response.

Call your senators and demand that this evil bill never see the light of day.  Your life may very well depend on it.

RESIST!!

  1. I also read somewhere that BBMitch is relying on a rule to rush this through which also allows for an unlimited number of amendments to be proposed which then must be voted on, which may further selay the process.  I admit I got a mental picture of a Dem Senator proposing an amendment and being told “that’s already in the bill,” or “you are trying to amend something that isn’t in the bill” – which of course would lead to “Well, then, show us the bill!”  I’ve signed several petitions for delay.

  2. To be fair, I think we should take a closer look at what the GOP has shared that’s actually in their AHCA bill:

Oh, yeah … they’ve shared NOTHING!

Which brings us to this Tweet from Pence, which hasn’t aged well:

  3. Arrogant ‘b’s’. This is horrible, proud of those dems standing up and resisting!!

  4. Sadly, my senators are Paul and McConnell.  I tried to call both of them today, could not even leave  a message.   But McConnell will say his constituents have not contacted him.

  5. Neither video will play for me, but I have no doubts about the venal sneakiness of McConnell, or the other GOPig hot shots.  Sadly, Mike Pence’s old statement about the wrongness of a bill being negotiated behind closed doors will only raise his esteem among the other hypocrites!

  6. I think it is unconscionable that the bill is not available for study and debate at the very least before a vote is taken.  When 73% (I think that was the figure I read) of Americans support the ACA, it is clear that Republicans are not conducting the People’s business, but conducting their own personal business and the business of healthcare and insurance corporations.

With 23,000,000 people being without health insurance because of the bastard Republicans, there needs to be a revolution.  2018 can’t come soon enough.  The midterms can be that revolution if progressives are prepared.

  7. After all these years of coming here an immerse myself in American politics, its still manages to astound me. Sadly, this has been mainly by how undemocratic the process has become over many years, and by how ruthless parties have become in their exploitation of the loopholes created in the past. All have been guilty of doing so, I believe, but the Republicans have been taking it to new heights this past decade, or should I say to a criminal low.

I always thought that the American system of checks and balances would protect it from autocracy and/or plutocracy, but is becoming very clear that the system is corroded so much that neither Drumpf nor Republicans need to tweak it much to “pass” such a plutocratic, inhumane law and Democrats can’t tweak it enough, despite all their well-meant efforts, to stop it.

The last resort for Democrats is to postpone TrumpCare as long as possible and in the meantime get as much of what remains hidden out in the open in the hope of stirring enough resistance against it. That means organizing some major protest marches, just calling on your representative no longer is enough.

  8. Thanks all.  Hugs.  Great graphics, JD and Lona. 35
