Well, the nurses at Providence Portland Medical Centre are sick and tired of having a mangy, grumpy old TomCat lying about so they are shipping him home Saturday afternoon.  He still needs more recovery time, after all, one does not donate their gallbladder to science without feeling a bit tired.  Your continued healing thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated.

Short Takes

Alternet — This week Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel faced off in their first Special Election Debate for Georgia’s District 06 seat. Handel has been running scared for some time—since running as a Republican these days is like wearing a gasoline body spray at a factory that only produces sparks. At one point, the candidates were allowed to ask one another a question. Handel, having virtually nothing worthwhile to stand on as a candidate herself, decided to try to push the Republican narrative that Jon Ossoff is some carpet-bagging elitist who is going to turn your kids into musical theatre dancers with newfangled iPhones and solar energy lust.

As the subheading to the article says, "Karen Handel stepped on a land mine during Georgia's special election debate Wednesday" and it went KABOOM!!!.  That Georgia Peach is sour  . . . as sour as can be!  For those that don't remember her, Handel was involved with the Susan G Komen Foundation and the controversy from a few years back.  On special election day 20 June 2017, let's make that Georgia Peach fall right off the tree!

Think Progress — For most politically active, progressive 16-year-olds, participating in the democratic process might involve volunteering for a campaign or joining a high school young Democrats club. Tahseen Chowdhury has a different idea.

Though he isn’t old enough to vote, the junior at Manhattan’s Stuyvesant High School launched his campaign last month for New York state senate. Chowdhury will be challenging Sen. Jose Peralta (D) in Queens’ District 13 in September 2018.

Chowdhury is unconcerned that he’s not a known politician. He said he’s counting on two phenomena emerging in 2017 to bolster his campaign: The growing number of first-time politicians deciding to take a stab at politics and voters’ anger toward President Trump, which is also being directed toward local lawmakers.

“If people don’t trust their representatives on the federal level, they have to make sure they’re represented adequately in the state and local level,” he told ThinkProgress by phone from his high school office. “And they’re not being represented well.”

Click through to see what motivates this teen.  I predict good things from this young man in the coming years.  With the Labour gains in the recent UK election, the rejection of Marine LePen in France, and the protests against Drumpf and Republicans in the US, young voters are saying enough to false promises and austerity.

Daily Kos — On Thursday, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) praised the recent Islamic State attack in Tehran as a “good thing” and suggested that maybe the United States should work with the militant organization.  …

"We have recently seen an attack on Iran, and the Iranian government, the mullahs, believe that Sunni forces have attacked them. This may signal a ratcheting up of certain commitments by the United States of America. As far as I’m concerned, I just want to make this point and see what you think, isn’t it a good thing for us to have the United States finally backing up Sunnis who will attack Hezbollah and the Shiite threat to us? Isn’t that a good thing? And if so, maybe this is a Trump — maybe it’s a Trump strategy of actually supporting one group against another, considering that you have two terrorist organizations.”

How do these idiots like Rohrabacher get elected?  Of course he is a Republican!  Saints preserve us!!!

Resist and Persist!!!

  1. OMG, Lynn, TomCat has mange too? A disease most commonly seen in dogs? No wonder he's grumpy. πŸ˜€

Anyway, thanks for the update and a new post, or two.

Alternet: Yes, to any rationally thinking human being, it was clear that Handel had stepped on a land mine that went off. But I looked on YouTube to see how she came back on Ossoff's "Kaboom" and that turned out to be a very vicious personal attack on him, just as you would expect from a Republican. And we all should have learned by now that Republicans love to hear what they want to hear, all as vicious and beside the point as possible, never mind the lying. She did the same in most of her answers,  and it undoubtedly will have made her hold on to the usual Republican support, but she did herself the most damage when she bluntly stated that she didn't support a livable wage. She followed it up with the usual Republican BS, but by stating it so clearly that might have thrown some of her voters. Let's hope she did and that Ossoff  wins the election.

TP: Kudos to Tahseen Chowdhury for being a role model for young Americans. I'm with you, Lynn, this young man will go far.

DK: My goodness; is it any wonder that the word 'Republican' has become synonymous in my mind to 'perverted stupidity'.  Rohrabacher is completely clueless and as delusional as his role model Drumpf. He didn't even bother to read the rest of the little information he got: Da'esh claimed it was responsible for the attacks in Tehran, the same Da'esh Iran is fighting in Iraq and Syria. Which is probably the reason for the attacks. But even if it had been a murderous attack "sponsored" by Sunni (Salafist) Saudi Arabia, as the Iranian government (first) believed, it is still a terrorist attack on innocent people and should NEVER be condoned, let alone suggested as "…a good thing for us to have the United States finally backing up Sunnis who will attack Hezbollah and the Shiite threat to us? " Despicable idiot Republican.

    My Universe: AAAHHHhhhhhhhhhh. Thanks, Lynn.

    • You didn't know about the mange?  He put it in one of his cartoons . . . mangy, old cat for adoption."  Can't remember when . . . maybe Valentine's Day last year.  LOL!!! It was quite the self description.

  2. AN: Go, Jon, GO!! I wish you the Best.

TP: Keep up the good work. A rising young star, we'll be reading about him in the near future! WTG, Tahseen Chowdhury!!

DK: ugh! Driving the clown car, I see…..

    MU: Adorable!

Prayers for TC, with hope and good wishes for a smooth recovery. Take care, Tom.

    Thanks, Lynn for post.

  3. That Peach needs relegation to the burn pit.

    Kudos to Chowdhury.

    Unemployment for Rohrabacker!

    Cat is where it's at!!

  4. Sat 4:10 (5:26)  There are 338 known species of hummingbird in the world, around 50 of which spend time in Costa Rica, and I have NO idea which one this is.

AlterNet – I saw the same news snip in the Daily Kos.  I think AlterNet has better snark, though.  Jon Ossoff either knows how to think on his feet, or he knows how to prepare and what to prepare for.  Or both.  They are not mutually exclusive by any means!  And both are valuable to have if you are in Congress … especially a Democrat in Congress.

TP – If the state law doesn't dpecify a minimum age (as many don't), there is absolutely no reason he cannot run at the age of sixteen.  I know nothing about Jose Peralta, so I can't endorse either, but young Chowdhury deserves a lot of encouragement.

DKos – Just, for a moment, close your eyes and imagine what the reaction would be if a Democrat in office made a statement supporting ISIS.  I might also note that Rohrabacher is far from the only one taking this position.  To me, this is the mask of patriotism falling from the faces of traitors.  To Trump supporters, it's not.

Universe- Simon's Cat is always good for a grin.  However, I will stand by the quotation "Age and treachery will always win out over youth and skill."  That kitten is just precocious.

    • Amen to Jon Ossoff!  From what he said, I think he has been dealing with this issue all through the campaign.  He commented that he had be transparent about his residency as he campaigned.  Apparently he lives only 5 minutes outside the district while his fiancé finishes up her medical studies at Emory U.

  5. Alternet: Handel needs loosing, big time.  Personal attacks is what the Repugs do when there is nothing left for them, which is always!

TP: Chowdhury makes me glad, agin, to have been born and raised in NYC!

DK: Sure, let's go support today's  favorite terrorist organization!  It might be a Trump strategy, just like supporting Breitbart. After all Trump is just soo fucking brilliant!

    Simon's Cat: Lovely!

    • You're correct . . . Republicans do best at personal attacks because they have nothing worthwhile to say that will help the average American.

I thought Republicans were their own favourite terrorist organisation . . . well at least domestic terrorist organisation!  I suppose with the attitude towards the Paris accord, they could be labelled an international terrorist organisation.
