I rescheduled my Oncologist appointment for next Monday.  It's to set up a series of annual exams to make sure there was no metastasis from the choroidal melanoma in my eye, now in remission.  In addition I had to make a few other phone calls that burned most of my morning.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today's took me 4:15 (average 4:43).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos (Classic 5/2014): A threatening "Mother's Day" video aimed at women calling for gun. reforms

This clip is three years old, It demonstrates that Trump is just a symptom of the diseased Republican Party. They were hateful and violent long before Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten.  RESIST!!

From Think Progress: President Donald Trump outlined a deeply religious vision of America while speaking to graduates of a conservative Christian college on Saturday, invoking his own version of Christian nationalism and touting policies friendly to right-wing faithful.

Trump received a warm welcome at Liberty University, the largest Christian college in America, where most students claim a conservative evangelical faith. The venue was an especially safe one for the president, as white evangelicals offered Trump resounding support on Election Day and still view his presidency favorably. What’s more, Liberty president Jerry Falwell Jr. has been a longtime backer of Trump — recently describing him as a “dream president for evangelicals” — and lauded the businessman during his introduction for taking action on issues dear to right-wing faithful such as appointing a conservative Supreme Court justice.

FYI, "Christian Nationalism" is just a sneaky way to refer to Anti-American Dominion Theology. RESIST!!

From Robert Reich: The question is no longer whether there are grounds to impeach Donald Trump. It is when enough Republicans will put their loyalty to America ahead of their loyalty to their party.

Trump’s statements last week about his firing of former FBI director James Comey provide ample evidence that Trump engaged in an obstruction of justice – a major charge in impeachment proceedings brought against Richard M. Nixon and Bill Clinton.

It’s worth recalling that the illegality underlying Nixon’s impeachment was a burglary at the Watergate complex, while the illegality underlying Clinton’s was lying to a grand jury about sex with an intern in the White House.

Trump’s obstruction is potentially far more serious. It involves an investigation about whether Trump or his aides colluded with Russia in rigging a presidential election – the most direct assault on American democracy in history.

I agree with Robert Reich, but believe that Republicans will never put country ahead of party. That's why every Republican in office is one Republican too many. RESIST!!

  1. 5:01  I don't think cats like citrus much.

The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) notes three bills which, probably due primarily to "the Russia thing," are going under the radar, but which are potentially catastrophically dangerous.

DKos – I'm sure he thought that was "funny."  i suspect a remake now would be even more heavy-handed.

TP – Falwell – OMG BARF.  Dominionism – if you haven't ever looked it up, do go to TC's link.  I would be the last person to claim that everything in the Constitution is rainbows and unicorns, still less that everything hateful is unconstitutional.  But Dominionism certainly is both hateful and unconstitutional.  And don't you just bet that every Dominionist in Americ is screaming about "Shari'a Law !!!" right now!

RR – Those of us who are old enough to remember Nixon, and a time when there were still a few Republicans who DID put country ahead of party, tend to keep thinking there MUST be a point past which enough of today's Republicans will cry "Basta!" and act.  Yeah, there probably is, but I think Congressman Adam Schiff put his finger on that point in yesterday's clip with bill Maher.  It's when they have sucked the orange dry and have no more to get from him.  Don't be holding your breath.

Cartoon – Patty!  Happy Birthday – wherever you are!  Come back soon!

Some catnip for the TomCat to alleviate Monday a little –

    • Wow, I had no idea how much catnip would be needed.  Can you BELIEVE this guy.  Not only meeting with Russian spies in the Oval office, with Russian press but no American press, but GIVING OUT CLASSIFIED INFORMATION LIKE CANDY!  And not even just OUR classified information, but classified information from allies!  Oh. My. God.  And then, just to make the day complete, Trey Gowdy said something reasonable.  Just shoot me.

  2. happy birthday to Patty, what  a scary and simply mean video

  3. DK: Yea, you're a Mother alright, and not in a good way either!

TP: What a shame, and a scam. Falwell and dt in the same room is not good either. I would surmise that God isn't happy either.

RR: So true!! Get the investigation started. "The House impeaches. The Senate convicts. That’s the end of Trump."

Cartoon: Happy Birthday, Patty! Hope it's a great day!

Hope that you have a good rest of your day, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. Hi TomCat,

Happy Birthday, Patty. As for "the Trump," The Republican led Congress is generally not concerned about the role they are playing with this treasonist administration. The US Constitution is just in the way It stands as a barrior between them and their billionare supporters. Feutalism is more to their liking and the sooner the people shut up and submit the better. Impeachment is a dream only the American people share. I hope I'm wrong…peace.

  5. Happy Birthday, Patty!!

DK: Some people are just too dumb to know that they are dumb: See the Dunning-Kruger Effect on Wikepedia, or elsewhere.

TP: Dominionism, I learned more than I had ever wanted to know about it when Ted Slug was still running for the nomination!  Liberty Univ., and Falwell's father would, most probably, not be players in anything, if not for Ronald Raygun!  Our first, and apparently, possibly not last, Alzheimer's president brought Falwell, Sr. into the W.H., along with too many (One would be one too many) Fairy Tale followers, giving them a sense of belonging in politics.  Just the phrase "Christian Nationalism" has such ominous overtones, as in "National Socialism" with a cross instead of a swastika!  I do not recall who said it, but thios is also reminiscent of the satement "If Fascism ever comes to the United States, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross!"  Lastly, does the concept of Christian Nationalism convey a sense of quietly stated anti-semitism, anti-Muslimism, anti-anything the self-proclaimed RIGHTEOUS BASTARDS take/have a dislike for?

RR: Yes Adam Schiff put it so succinctly!

  6. Happy Birthday,Patty.  I cannot access my Care2 account  still trying to get help.  miss you all!

  7. Puzzle — 3:35  There is nothing quite like the taste and smell of a cold juicy sweet orange.  My 2 boys will eat orange pieces, but not little Annie.  None of them will eat lemons . . . in fact they run the other way with just the slightest smell of lemon.

Daily Kos — I am speechless!

Think Progress — Drumpf says what he needs to in order to build his base.  In this case, he is pandering to the pseudo Christian right who often decry Islamic Sharia Law.  But these same people want Biblical law for all, whether a person is Christian or not.  This is pseudo Christian "Sharia Law".  Given that the constitution in the first amendment says: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.", one has to wonder how Drumpf and Falwell Jr can justify their stance.  The US is not a theoracy nor was it ever designed to be by the founding fathers.  My guess is that the FF are rolling in their graves.

Robert Reich — The matter of ousting Drumpf comes down to the first two sentences and the last line of the article.

"The question is no longer whether there are grounds to impeach Donald Trump. It is when enough Republicans will put their loyalty to America ahead of their loyalty to their party.  …

The House impeaches. The Senate convicts. That’s the end of Trump."

The first about finding "enough Republicans will put their loyalty to America ahead of their loyalty to their party." is the most important since Republicans control both the House and the Senate, and neither a  Bill of Impeachment nor a successful prosecution of the impeachment charges is possible without Republicans.  If it were, Drumpf would no longer be pResident.

Further, one has to wonder what will happen in the 2018 midterms.  If Republicans continue their current actions, that is doing nothing about Drumpf, will they pay in spades at the ballot box.  Their dithering only screws the country more.

Cartoon — Happy Birthday Patty!  Where are you girl?  I miss seeing your puzzle times and your comments.

    Resist and Persist!!!

You did this morning what I should have been doing, only mine was to follow-up on my mother's estate and taxes.  Tomorrow I must as well do that dreaded chore . . . laundry.  It must be nice to be a cat that wears the same clothes eveyday.  On the other hand, I don't want to have to like my ass!

  8. ?   Happy birthday, Patty  ?

Good to see you back on track with your medical appointments, TomCat. Good luck with them and I hope your first intervention to improve your eyesight gets the all-clear.

DK: Three-year-old video clip and still going strong, I expect. You're absolutely right, TomCat. People like this very sick man, brought Drumpf to power, because Drumpf gave this behavior the "normality and "thumbs-up" they craved.

TP: “We all bleed the same blood of patriots, we all salute the same, great American flag, and we are all made by the same almighty God.” read Trump from his speech, written by Steve Bannon and co. no doubt. Shades of Nazi Germany…until Drumpf noted in his speech that America will be “hearing a lot about [military actions] next week from our generals.” Forget the 'shades'. They may call it Christian nationalism or Dominionism, but this is "Sieg Heil!", pure and simple.

Robert Reich: Reich is correct in stating that Drumpf has committed several impeachable offenses. Of course. However, I don't share his optimism that enough Republicans in Congress will see the light before the next elections in 18 months time (" Under a Trump presidency, that’s an eternity.") and join in impeachment procedures. If they haven't done it now when Drumpf so blatantly gave democracy the finger, they never will; they've passed the point of no return and left all decency behind.

  9. Happy Birthday, Patty! Have a "monstrous" party with Family & Friends. lol.
    Hugzzz…
    .

  10. Maybe a day late & dollar short – but my sentiments remain the same:

Hope you had genormously Happy Birthday!

  11. Thanks all!  Hugs!!

  12. There's got to be some WAY to get this idiot, and ALL his cronies, out of office!

    Belated happy birthday, TC!
