i was up late again last night.  First I was trying to wrap myself around understanding the day’s abominations by the walking urinal and his Republican Reich.  Then my computer notified me that I needed to restart to update Windows 10.  I insist on having my computer ready to go in the morning, and thinking it would only take a few minutes, I did it.  If you have Windows 10 and have not done the latest update, be warned!  That SOB is HUGE!  Almost two hours and several restarts later, I finally got to bed.  Also, the update reset several of my defaults to MS Apps.  GRRR!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:40 (average 4:36).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: In an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, Donald Trump boasted that, if he is impeached, the television ratings will be higher than those of any other impeachment in history.

“Everywhere I go, people tell me that if I am impeached, they’re going to watch it,” he said. “The ratings are going to be through the roof.”

He said that he expected his impeachment ratings to be “many, many times” the size of the audience for Bill Clinton’s impeachment, in 1998.

“It’s not even going to be close,” Trump said. “The ratings for Bill Clinton’s impeachment were a joke.”

Dang, Andy!  Would that it were so! RESIST!!

From Zero Hedge: The Senate Intelligence Committee requested the records from Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN, late last month, the WSJ reports although it did not elaborate on the nature of the records. One person cited by the WSJ said that without them the committee wouldn’t be able to reach a conclusion on whether there was collusion between Trump associates and Russia during last year’s campaign. [emphasis original]

Since with these records the committee can prove whether or not the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, and since the absence of examples could not prove the negative, this is an implicit statement is that the records will enable the committee to prove Trump’s treason. RESIST!!

From MSN: Comey declined an invitation to speak to the Senate Intelligence Committee in a closed door session next week.

However, The New York Times reports that a source says Comey is willing to speak if it’s a public hearing.

Comey does not want to give Senate Republicans an opportunity to hide his testimony from the American people the way they hid Russia’s interference before the election. RESIST!!

  1. 4:26  The lamp is OK; the room is too orange.  But it did give me an idea.

After Keith's plea yesterday, will it be the Netherlands that saves us?  I have not yet watched the first episode in full, but I did download it to a portable hard drive in case "someone" should lock the channel.

There's a Mother's Day card to be signed for Ruth Bader Ginsburg

TNY – You don't suppose we can use this to persuade him it would be a good idea, do you?

ZH – Yeah.  No one tries to suppress evidence that isn't there.  After the Ochre Ogre tweeted what looked like a threat to Comey about having "tapes" of him, Comey's response was, "Bring them on.  I have nothing to fear."  The exact opposite of the Administration's response to – oh, everything.

MSN – With all Comey's faults, he is a professional at intelligence.  He is taking the right path on this.

Cartoon – I see the lead is about Bill Maher, so I assume you will have his segment there which goes with this.  laugh

    • Thanks for the link to the vids by Zembla.  I watched episode 1 and 2 in full.  WOW!!!  Very interesting.  I agree with you that this may not last on the internet for long.

  2. NYer: Oh, pleeeeeeze….yes, yes, YES!!

ZH: Yep, follow the $$$ !!!

MSN: Good move on his part.

Cartoon: Can't come soon enough for me.

*Joanne: Mitch also posted this on Care2. The link you provided in your comment, I pulled up the story also, Video is by Zembla, "The dubious friends of Donald Trump",  and have viewed the first one, it's about 45 minutes long, and the 2nd is about 36 mins. long, which I haven't seen yet. What a tangled web he weaves. With all of the investigations going on at Capitol Hill,iIf this doesn't sink him, I don't know what will.

Company coming in shortly. Hope that you have a great evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

    • Thanks.  I have downloaded it too.  I haven't seen that 3 and 4 are up yet but I'll keep looking.  I may be paranoid, but the wayhe works, I do feel we don't know how long they'll be available for us to see on line.

  3. Like you, I’m not all that fond that Windows 10 has virtually taken over automatic management of Updates.

It does provide some definite protection, like against the current WannaCry hack disabling places around the world.  (You got the patch automatically back in March.)

And granted, there are a couple of ways to go into the Registry to change it so they can’t automatically Update – but I, personally, do NOT change Registry settings … EVAH!

While you can pretty easily control WHEN the downloads occur, they still will happen once you turn your PC off.

The one way you can gain some control is to format your computer as “Metered”.  That actually gives you quite a bit of control, because it means the MS realizes that downloads cost you money – so they won’t automatically do them.

Pros and cons to everything in life, I guess.

And other than them always trying to change my default Search from Google to Bing, I've not had a problem that way/

    • Thanks for the warnings.  I haven't set mine up yet not from avoidance, but for housekeeping reasons.  Literally.  Some mending is needed before it will fit); when I do, I'll expect multiple updates at once (I've had it for a while.)  I have (VERY seldom) changed the registry on prior systems, but not for that, and not without a lot of research, and following instructiions very carefully.  Bing annoys me too, so thanks for that heads up also.

      • Update ASAP.  There are some nasty computer cooties online for which the updates provide protection.  I don'tt mind updates.  It was just the timing and size of this one.

        • The machine that is loaded with W10 has never been pugged in or turned on.  Now I know that, when I do plug it in and turn it one, I'll be spending the first 2-3 days doing updates.  That will help me plan.

          • YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary)

My download of that Update only took 15-20 minutes.  I didn't time it, but it was not excessive.

No doubt it varies WRT connection (I have cable); age of PC and time of day (I'm an early riser and have noticed I get much, MUCH faster download speeds at 5:00 AM than 5:00 PM.  Not nearly as many folks upstream slowing things down.  I am at the end of a cul-de-sac, and it makes a difference how many people are logged on upstream from me.)

          • Hopefully you will have one cumulative update.

  4. Puzzle — 4:17  My doctor says I have an iron deficiency, but clearly I do not have a lead deficiency.  I could not get the lead out of my ass to complete this in a better time.

The New Yorker — I read this yesterday from my email inbox and cracked up laughing!  I can see me watching the hearings (if I had cable) for no other reason than to watch the worm squirm, bloviate and lie like there was no tomorrow.  In lieu of that, I'd watch his trial for treason and numerous other criminal offences.  This is one case where he can't just pay out damages so he can continue to run the country, like he did with the university lawsuit.

Zero Hedge — Bring it on!!!

MSN — I wondered if Comey would testify after being summarily fired.  Kudos to him for doing it publicly.  Professional act!  Please educate me:If Adam Schiff as ranking Democrat, says yes to a public hearing, can the Republican ranking chair squelch the idea?

Cartoon — Is the speech bubble from Drumpf or "We the people".  I'd love to hear "We the people" rise up and say "You're Fired!!!"

    Resist and Persist!!!

Sorry about the computer issues.  I have not had a recent Windows 10 update so I suspect I'll get a notice at some time.

    • Oh, how I wish I could give you some of my iron excess.  In some ways it's not so bad now, but when I was having dysmenorrhea and endometriosis it definitely contributed to the agony.  Now it just discolors my legs.  Inconvenient in high sommer, but what the heck.

I am not sure what it takes to override a committee chairman, but I suspect one Democrat is not enough.  If the entire rest of the committee, both parties, were to back Adam, maybe.  but i'm not certain.  TC probably knows.

  5. Sorry, I should have warned you for the biglyness of the Windows 10 update, TomCat, but I didn't really know how much time it really took. I knew it was an extraordinary one and had requested the update myself when I had time for it, then left it to its own devices for the rest of the day. Sorry you lost precious sleep over it and some of your settings to boot.

TNY: One of the best in some time, Andy! So why don't you all do Drumpf the biggest favor of all and give him the highest ratings for any impeachment?

    RESIST, PERSIST, IMPEACH &

    PROSECUTE!

ZH: So FinCEN was already looking into Drumpf's financial connection to Russia, which indicates that on federal level someone was already following the money like Rachel Maddow has done earlier, and Keith Olbermann has suggested. Excellent. Although I sincerely hope they keep their guards up, because every time investigations get closer to Drumpf and his minions, the cover-up brigade gets very busy too, people are fired, investigations grind to a halt and goodness knows how much material disappears.

MSN: I had wondered why Comey didn't want to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee, but I was unaware it was a closed-door session. Comey refusing to appear there but willing to appear in a public hearing has made my respect for him grow. Sure, the Hillary investigation disclosure right before the election was an unforgivable error of judgment, but since then Comey has done all he can to redeem himself as a unpartisan and intelligent professional. He knows exactly what will happen when he gives testimony behind closed doors: the Republicans will try to suppress anything that is detrimental to Drumpf and themselves, and Drumpf will run off at the mouth and twitter again, putting all kinds of lies in Comey's mouth, tarnishing his good name – or what's left of it – all to keep his base calm and the media diverted.

Cartoon: Excellent, but can't wait until the roles are reversed.

  6. Thanks all!  Hugs!

  7. NYorker: Now, that is a broadcast with/about the orange piutz that I might be able to stomach, either way, make my day!

    ZH: Ba Da Boom!

MSN: I certainly hope that his motive is as pure, and clever as reported!

  8. Kudos to Comet for making a condition that his testimony be given in OPEN session!!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
