I’m still in a lot of pain, but I slept last night, so I can publish.  For the most part, until I improve, whether or not I publish will depend on whether I slept the night before.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:42 (average 4:58).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Offering a stunningly blunt appraisal of the North Korean leader, Jared Kushner said on Tuesday that Kim Jong-un was a “totally unqualified person” who attained his position of power only through nepotism.

“Here you have a guy who has no government experience, and he’s in charge of the whole thing,” Kushner said, in an interview with Fox News. “It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard of.”

Kushner noted that, instead of working his way up and acquiring the skills necessary to do his job, the North Korean leader had been given huge responsibilities and power “only because of family connections.”

Very observant Andy. Kushner is the "how to" expert on nepotism. RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: Trump might have won the elections (which again is controversial), but he couldn’t win the hearts of the people. We believed that at least his supporters who voted for him would be happy with his performance, but a new Pew poll confirmed Trump’s low approval ratings.

Compared to Obama’s 61% during his first term, Trump scored 39%, which is the lowest approval rating for any president in his first term.

It’s worse among the minorities. 81% Blacks and 78% Hispanics disapproved of him.

63% believe Trump is too impulsive.

The ratings are worse for Ryan, who has an approval rating of 29% and disapproval rating of 54%.

I like it, but the disapproval would be most gratifying if both were unemployed. RESIST!!

From NY Times: Bill O’Reilly’s reign as the top-rated host in cable news came to an abrupt and embarrassing end on Wednesday as Fox News forced him out after the disclosure of a series of sexual harassment allegations against him and an internal investigation that turned up even more.

Woooo Hoooo!! RESIST!!

  1. 5:32  Not the world's most successful paper chase on my part.

TNY  Kushner is the new go-to expert on everything.  Do you think he would even realize the irony here?  Do you think he can even spell irony?

DKos – 39 plus 63 is 102, which means that at least 2% believe he is too impulsive but approve of him anyway.  AARRRGGGGGHH !!!

NYT – About damn time.  Incidentally, Keith Olbermann knew it all along.

    Cartoon – "Springtime for Hitler."

    • I love your graphic!  In one sense, it is somewhat emblematic of the current administration's communicatio abilities — fuzzy, higgly-piggly, backwards, no coördination.  Maybe that is the resistance throwing them off!

      • I do hope so.  I like the "pretty ones"quite a bit, but I don't want anyone tho think I am just going to "play nice."   So I'm also looking at "tougher" versions.  Thanks!

  2. NYer: This is so true, and sad. Serious observation, Andy!!

DK: Something is nipping them in the behind (dt/lyin' ryan), and the folks are waking up. Finally.

NYT: Just saw this on NBC news, here ya go: "Bill O’Reilly Severance: Fox News Host to Get $25 Million: Source" It's amazing to me that he saw himself innocent of the sexual harassment charges, he's a low life, if there ever was one.

    Cartoon: UGH !!!

Hope that you start feeling better, and yes, rest!!! Enjoy your evening, it's beautiful here. Take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. Puzzle — 3:49  Hare today, gone tomorrow?  Not a good fricassée!

The New Yorker — Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black!  I cracked up when I read that a few days ago!

Daily Kos — When is increased unemployment the answer to the US's problems?  Answer — When it is every Republican in politics that is unemployed!

NY Times — I'll just repeat what I said yesterday.

Ding dong!  The wicked warlock is dead! Faux Noise has canned O'Lielly!  From the Daily Beast:

"The reign of the most-watched host on the right-wing cable news network is coming to an end after two full decades, brought down by a perfect storm of newly unearthed sexual-harassment accusations, a massive advertiser boycott, and the absence of Roger Ailes, a fellow serial harasser of women, to protect him.

21st Century Fox confirmed the end of O’Reilly’s tenure in a Wednesday statement: “After a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the Company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Bill O’Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel.”"

Cartoon — Perhaps Republicans will use thiis "holiday" to go see Hitler . . . literally.

    Resist and Persist!!!

Glad that you were able to get some rest last night.  Those intercostals surely do suck bigly!  I'm off to go teaching.  Catch you later on the flip side.

  4. New Yorker:  Only a putz like Rumpy could be so blatantly imbecilic as to apoint family to a national position.

DK: Anyone, in my humble opinion, who can still support the Faux President is either on the take, or needs to take a very long vacation at some old fashioned sanitarium!

NYT: Maybe, now, someone will file a new suit against Billie Boy, or seek to indict him…preferably before he gets hired by Brietbart!

  5. Keep up the sleep/naps and you'll get there in the end, TomCat. Hang on.

TNY: Now this is satire, Andy! Nepotism is about the only thing the Drumpfs and inlaws did well and do better nowl.

DK: An overall approval rating of 39% is still higher than I expected. Must be because a lot of Americans think it's a sign of leadership when a president starts throwing bombs and trying to provoke a mad dictator into a war. And is able to pin the blame for his massive blunder of trying to repeal/replace Obamacare solely on the speaker of the House, Ryan.

NYT: So the Murdochs finally got their stick to hit O'Reilly with: sexual harassment. Top that with a large number of dollars to keep him silent, and Bob's your uncle.

Cartoon: They would if they could, and in a couple of years time they will celebrate on Adolf's birth date.

  6. Thanks all!  Hugs!!
