Beauregard on the Run

In one of the few stories that we would classify as good news,  KKK Beauregard, the racist, misogynistic, homophobic, pseudo-Christian bigot that Fuhrer Drumphenfarten appointed as AG, had been caught red handed committing perjury in his Senate confirmation hearing.  Although he should resign immediate in the hope of evading charges, he has opted to recuse himself from matters pertaining to Russian interference in our election and contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian officials in a desperate attempt to cling to power.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Thursday that he will recuse himself from investigations related to the 2016 presidential campaign, which would include any Russian interference in the electoral process.

Speaking at a hastily called news conference at the Justice Department, Sessions said he was following the recommendation of department ethics officials after an evaluation of the rules and cases in which he might have a conflict.

“They said that since I had involvement with the campaign, I should not be involved in any campaign investigation,” Sessions said. He added that he concurred with their assessment and would thus recuse himself from any existing or future investigation involving President Trump’s 2016 campaign.

The announcement comes a day after The Washington Post revealed that Sessions twice met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the campaign and did not disclose that to the Senate Judiciary Committee during his confirmation hearing in January… [emphasis added]

Beauregard did more than fail to disclose the contacts.  He lied under oath and said there were no contacts.

0303sessionsRep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said Friday morning that Attorney General Jeff Session’s explanations of why he didn’t disclose two meetings with the Russian ambassador to the Senate are “not credible.”

“You don’t, I think, treat a visit in your office by the Russian ambassador as something casual, something not memorable,” Schiff said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “And when you’re asked about your contacts with Russians in the senate, that should have been disclosed. I think he knew it should have been disclosed.”

Sessions met twice with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak in 2016 but said he “did not have communications with the Russians” during his confirmation hearing. The attorney general recused himself Thursday afternoon from any investigation involving the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia, which he strongly supported.

Schiff, one of many Democrats to call for Sessions to resign Thursday, said although perjury has a high standard, that is not the standard to evaluate Sessions’ ability to do his job…

Frankly, I think he should be charged.  Lawrence O’Donnell has some excellent commentary for us.

Yes, even the Fuhrer threw Beauregard under the bus by mistake.  But lest be real for a second.  Kislyak, the Russian ambassador, who is both chatty and a political wonk, visited Beauregard at his office at the Republican National Convention.  To suggest that the campaign never came up in that circumstance has to be BS!

  1. While we need to investigate, repeal, and replace him, it seems to me worth looking into disbarment as well.  I assume he is a member of the bar in Alabama, but he might also be a member in other states (unfortunately Russia is probably not one of them.  Wouldn't it be great if it were!  That would be a smoking gun indeed!)

(BTW – "the criminal enterprise known as the Nixon Administration" – priceless!)

  2. We need further investigation, not only of Sessions' contacts with the Russians, but he needs to be cited for perjury before congtress, and an indictment sought!  Last night I e-mailed each of my senators with a request for just this.  He nedds to be de-barred, and, possbly, sent to prison.  Perhaps they can find a nice big prison suite, bigger than the one room cell Al Capone had in the Philadelphia lock-up, so that he can share with his imbeciic leader, down the road.

  3. Has he gone mad? (don't answer that). Hope that he gets booted out.
Come to think of it….all of them should.
Lying, and then patting their backsides while saying, "I don't recall".

*Joanne, like your 'Resist' sign, awesome!

  4. Sessions and Drumpf deserve each other; they are both equally stupid, i.e. full of themselves, and both are habitual liars who can't keep their stories straight. Being stupid and a liar is a terrible combination, designed to hang oneself, as Lawrence O'Donnell so expertly has shown us. But having Drumpf "hysterically" trying to defend Sessions takes Sessions straight to the firing-squad, wouldn't you think?

Wrong. Because who is going to charge Sessions? Who is going to put the pressure on him to resign? The Democrats will try, but the Republicans definitely won't. They haven't in all these cases where now sworn in cabinet members have lied during their hearing: Scott Pruit, Tom Price, Betsy DeVos, Steven Mnuchin… As Paul Krugmann said today in his Op-ed in the New York Times: "… the pervasiveness of lies reflects the character of the man at the top: No president, or for that matter major U.S. political figure of any kind, has ever lied as freely and frequently as Donald Trump. But this isn’t just a Trump story. His ability to get away with it, at least so far, requires the support of many enablers: almost all of his party’s elected officials, a large bloc of voters and, all too often, much of the news media." There you have it: lying has become the new norm in American politics and because so many are caught up in it, no one is going to put a stop to it.

  5. This little weasel should be tarred and feathered.  He can recall talking about church and other minor details with the Russian ambassador but not about the campaign or sanctions???  Right.  And trump trying to turn the tables by pointing fingers at Schumer and Pilosi – he just doesn't get it or maybe he does – figures the distraction will work.  The thing with trump is that he is very good at distraction – there's a new one every day.  Even so, the press is on this and soon repercussions from trump's madness will start showing up.  Europe thinking about requiring visas for Americans?  That should go over well with business people.  Tourism down? No immigrants to work?  Reality will catch up to him – I just wish it would hurry up.

  6. For better or worse, perjury requires proving willful intent.  So Rep. Schiff is correct – it's a bar too high & nigh unto impossible to prove in this case.

But he clearly lied – and should be accountable for his lies.  (Anything to wipe that smug smirk off his face would be greatly appreciated.  Good lord, he's annoying!)

  7. Thanks al!.  Hugs.!
