Feb 282017

The worst February in human history is about to end with a rancid fart, as it escapes the vile maw of Putin’s Pervert, as he addresses a joint session of Congress this evening.  I have not yet decided whether or not I can watch and stay sane.

Yesterday Christine set up my prospective glasses prescription, had me look one eye at a time, and told me that’s what I can expect without cataract surgery.  When I told her that was not good enough, she agreed and said that my cataracts are worse than the average for which she recommends the surgery.  She has her scheduling specialist jumping through all the Medicare Advantage hoops now.  They will do my right eye in April or May, and my left, one to two months later.  Then she will send me to al Ocular Plastic surgeon to bob my eyelids.  Then I will have a surgery to correct the double vision.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:14 (average 5:49).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (GQ Channel): It’s Time for a Grand Jury on Trump and Russia | The Resistance with Keith Olbermann

As a former volunteer firefighter, there are so many smoking guns that we need SCBA just to breathe! RESIST!!

From YouTube (TYT Channel): Trump’s Lavish Lifestyle Is Costing Taxpayers A Fortune

Do we pay for Russian hookers too?  Republicans salivate over taking food out of the mouths of poor children, but have no problems paying for their Fuhrer’s recreational follies. What hypocrites! RESIST!!

From All In: ‘Massive pro-Trump demonstrations’ not so massive

Just hundreds of people showed up for what was billed as a massive day of rallies nationwide in support of President Trump.

On the day of the women’s march there were thousands right here in Portland. This pro-Trump rally here was in Lake Oswego, a rich suburb.  It had about a dozen. RESIST!!

From NY Times: The Justice Department on Monday dropped a crucial objection to Texas’ strict voter-identification law, signaling a significant change from the Obama administration on voting-rights issues.

The Republican-led Texas Legislature passed one of the toughest voter ID laws in the country in 2011, requiring voters to show a driver’s license, passport or other government-issued photo ID before casting a ballot.

The Obama administration’s Justice Department sued Texas to block the law in 2013 and scored a major victory last year after a federal appeals court ruled that the law needed to be softened because it discriminated against minority voters who lacked the required IDs.

Opponents of the law said Republican lawmakers selected IDs that were most advantageous for Republican-leaning white voters and discarded IDs that were beneficial to Democratic-leaning minority voters. For example, legislators included licenses to carry concealed handguns, which are predominantly carried by whites, and excluded government employee IDs and public university IDs, which are more likely to be used by blacks, Hispanics and Democratic-leaning younger voters.

But the Justice Department under President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions told a judge on Monday that it was withdrawing its claim that Texas enacted the law with a discriminatory intent… [emphasis added]

It is my hope that the courts will not be influenced by KKK Beauregard’s Republican Racism. RESIST

  1. 4:56  Are they hinting that what you eat should be measured?

Sounds like a whole lot of eye-work but presumably it will be worth it.  I wish you all the stamina you need, and more.

February 28 is Rare Disease Day.

Good for the Kansas City Star

Keith – There are so many smoking guns that Republicans can't see any problems through the smoke.

YT/TYT – Oh, hell, it's only money, spent on a REPUBLICAN.  What's REALLY important is punishing people.  And his administration is doing that, and escalating daily!

All In – Yes, well, it isn't JUST on account of his ego he is deluding himself.  It's also so he can believe he has a mandate, so his pals can legislate, and he can sign bills and Executive Orders, to put all that punishment into effect.

NYT – This is news like an obituary is news.  We all die eventually.  The only unknown is when.

    Cartoon – No kidding.

  2. Good to have a game plan when addressing either multiple or complex issues.  (My ophthalmologist mentioned on my last visit that I might consider having a blepharoplasty, which is what your "bob" sounds like.)

  3. KO:  I agree with everything he says on the video. I will definitely watch the investigation(s) if televised. I'm passing this one on.

TYT: Does he care? Of course not!! Sickening!!!

All In: Such large crowds!! People waving signs, chanting, singing, hugging, having a great time. Oh, wait, that was our MILLIONS of Women Marching all across this Nation. RESIST!!

    NYT: RESIST!!!

Got several things going on with your monthly planner. Hope that all goes with with your eye surgeries. Enjoy your evening, relax, and take good care. Thanks, Tom.

  4. YT/GQ: Keith continues to rock!

All In: 'Massive," like the number of ice cubes that would survive a half-hour in Hell!

NYT: This is what the Repugs do bestrig elections in the name of fair elections!

YT/TYT: Not going to watch, just like I am not watching, or going to watch Schmuck a L'Orange address congress…are they allowed to throw rotten tomaotes?

  5. Puzzle — 3:57  I was afraid I would not measure up but I kept inching along and voilà . . . I did measure up!

YouTube — I agree with Keith.  But I doubt it will happen.  Rep Devin Nunes is in Drumpf's back pocket IMO.  NewsMax (and other sources)

"The House Intelligence Committee has "not seen any evidence of anyone from President Donald Trump's campaign, or any other one, communicating with the Russian government," House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes insisted in a news conference Monday morning, but he is concerned about "major leaks" that have come from the White House."

There has not been enough time for a proper investigation nor have there been any Congressional hearings on the connections between Drumpf and Russia, yet Nunes is basically saying "Move on folks, there's nothing to see here."   We already know that the Republicans went after Clinton for Benghazi multiple times including an 11 hour  period of her testimony.  There needs to be an independent prosecutor etc, none of this House Intelligence Committee investigation horseshit!

    Resist and Persist!!!

YouTube — Half a million dollars per day to watch Melania because she refuses to move into the WH.  Personally, that expense should be borne by Drumpf from personal funds.  And the costs of these trips?  Nine vacation days in his first month of his presidency?  The Republicans like Ryan, those fiscally conservative idiots that want to cancel the SNAP programme and the school lunch programme for example, will say and do nothing about Drumpf's expenses.  Sickening!!!

    Resist and Persist!!!

All In — Here in Vancouver today, the despicable spawn of the Evil One, Drumpf, were opening the Drumpf Tower.  There were protestors outside numbering somewhere between 250 and 500 people.  There were counter protestors — Drumpf supporters —numbering 3.  Drumpf truly is a delusional twat.

    Resist and Persist!!!

NY Times — And the games begin in ernest with Beauregard leading the charge!  What horseshit!

    Resist and Persist!!!

Cartoon — That was then.  Now it is pro slavery!

    Resist and Persist!!!

Wow!!!  Four surgeries!  Everyone that I have spoken to that has had cataract surgery said they no longer needed glasses afterward.  Of course, everyone is different but I hope that is true for you too.  I woke up to snow this morning which was gone by noon.  Then it started snowing again late this afternoon, but nothing the stayed on pavement, only on grass and trees etc.  We have never had anything like this before and more is scheduled for March.  Having said that, the crocuses are up in the gardens as well as the heather.

  6. Seem your appointment with Christine went well yesterday. Your cataracts may be bad, but that also necessitates rapid consecutive intervention (oh my, I sound like a military here, don't I), and your vision may have improved a lot by the beginning of summer. And cataract surgery is minor; even my mother had nothing to complain about when she had hers done 😉

On Drumpf's address (which I didn't watch) Dutch correspondent in Washington Wouter Zwart had this to say for our national news: 'For the first time campaigner Trump seemed to have stayed at home and we saw a real president'. He ended with: 'There was more than enough for his supporters to be very satisfied about, but also more than enough for his opponents to have been very angry and very worried about.'

Keith Olbermann: Excellent recapitulation of what has transpired in the months before and after Drumpf's inauguration and who were involved, including Burr and Nunes. Too bad they can't be dragged in front of a Grand Jury by "We the People", because the Republican Congress won't allow any investigation into the Russian ties of Drumpf and his minions and instead is rapidly becoming part of what needs to be investigated.

TYT: Good that The Young Turks are drawing attention to it, because it got little attention when numbers were published before. What they didn't mention however, that it's costing the American taxpayer a lot more money because the business trips his two sons make on his behalf for Drumpf's business is costing millions for their security that travels with them too, and Drumpf is actually conducting some informal business talks in Mar-a-Lago, which he owns and makes more money off by increasing the new membership fees to $200,000 a year.

AI: LOL For anyone else you'd think that pathetic turnout must have hurt, but Drumpf will not see this turnout on Faux News, and if he does, he will see something very different from you and me. And with his impaired reading ability, he doesn't understand how quotes work either. Perhaps someone should explain it to him (again…and again…and).

NYT: As Rachel said before: America needs to watch out what is really happening and not be diverted by all the brouhaha this administration makes. This and more like this was in the making, so prepare yourselves. Lets hope the courts see through this.

Cartoon: Some years ago I thought this was only confusing to people outside America but I think the switch between parties of what they stand for has a lot of Americans confused too and many still believe they would be better of with the Republicans. They would be if they were still Lincoln's Republicans.

  7. Thanks all!  Rushed hugs!
