A Quack from the Fuhrer

Republicans have a love hate relationship with fear, as they seen to vacillate between spreading it to control deplorable sheeple and cowering it, lime the way Republican Senators and Reps are now hiding from their constituents.  From 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. came a mighty quack, the fearful sound of Fuhrer Drumphenfarten ducking the White House Correspondents Dinner.

No U.S. President has missed the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner since 1981. But one day after major news outlets were banned from a briefing with Press Secretary Sean Spicer, President Donald Trump announced that he’s breaking the 36-year streak.

The dinner, which dates back to 1921, is a time for the president and press to exchange jokes about one another, while reaffirming the important role that news outlets play in a democracy. On Saturday afternoon, Trump tweeted that he’s skipping the annual event.

I will not be attending the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner this year. Please wish everyone well and have a great evening!

Ronald Reagan was the last person to miss the event, but he only did so because he was recovering from an assassination attempt. Trump offered no explanation as to why he’s skipping the dinner, which is scheduled for April 29. But the decision is unsurprising given Trump’s hostility towards the press.

Just one day before Trump’s announcement, Press Secretary Sean Spicer prohibited CNN, the New York Times, BuzzFeed, and Politico from attending his daily briefing. He reportedly handpicked the news outlets allowed to attend, including well-known conservative organizations like Fox News, Breitbart, and the Washington Times. The Associated Press and Time decided to boycott in solidarity with the banned reporters…

Samantha Bee, host of TBS’ Full Frontal, announced on Monday that she will host an alternative event to the official one in Washington D.C. this spring. "Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” as it is being called, will be held on April 29th, the same night the White House Correspondents’ Association has told members to “save the date” for its event.

"The evening is sure to bring plenty of surprises, music, food, and laughter—and if you’re not careful you just might learn something. Specifically, you’ll learn how screwed we’d be without a free press,” Bee said in a statement about the event, which will serve as a benefit for the Committee to Protect Journalists. "We’re really doing this. This is not a joke,” she added.

In a conference call with reporters Monday morning, Bee confirmed that she has never been invited to host an official White House Correspondents’ Dinner and did not anticipate that she would be getting an invite this year given the nature of her comedy about President Trump

  1. "Spring" Concerto by Vivaldi.  Excellent and appropriate.  I wonder whether this is a good decision on the part of "Schmuck à l'Orange," though.  If he were there, they might feel inhibited.  With him gone, no one is going to have the least inhibitions about roasting him like a witch at the stake.  Which he resembles.

    • With Faux News, Breitfart and the Washington Times as the most distinguished guests and all his criticasters banned from the event I don't think it'll be much of a roast. Those who have accepted won't dare to go behind his back and do nothing but lavish praise on him. Because they can be sure he's watching it live in the backroom.

    • "Schmuck à l'Orange," is just soooooo appropriate, and it just dances off the tongue!!!!!

      • Thanks, I love it too.  It's not original, I gt it from someone at Daily Kos, but you can't copyright phrases like thst, and I'd expect the originator  to be flattered anyway (I would be).

  2. Now maybe the attendants can have a fun time w/o the Frump being there, and….make jokes anyway…
he sure can dish it out, but can't take the heat, can he?

Such a lovely invite from Sam B. No joking either!!!

  3. Wonder if the fact that Twitler will NOT be going will decrease Bee's dinner attendance.  As noted, w/ Twitler a no-show, more journalist might actually go to the WHCA Dinner.

  4. A quack from the White House?  More like a cluck from the mutant orange chicken.

Well, of course Trump can't stand mockery and can't respond in kind since he has no sense of humor.  But even if he doesn't attend — especially if he doesn't attend — they'll mock him anyway, whether it's at the WHCA dinner or Bee's bash.  He'll end up watching it all on TV and fuming about it on Twitter.  Like always.

  5. I seem to be a bit nostalgic today.  It has been 10 years on 03 June since my father passed away.  His final words the night before he passed (when we thought he was semi conscious — surprise, he was awake!) seem fitting to repeat here.  There was a disturbance in the next room and he said loudly "Kick him in the ass!"  Drumpfenfarten and his minions are a really disturbing disturbance.  My father's words so fit!  The Not the White House Correspondent's Dinner is a real kick in the ass to Drumpfenfarten.  May he be kicked so hard that he turns inside out!

    Resist and Persist!!!

  6. He's a coward, through and through. He's got all his adversaries in the media banned, and all his buddies sitting on the front row cheering  for him as now has become his normal mode of operandi. He knows those who have accepted won't risk future banning, so there's little reason to be scared of a roast. No, what Drumpf is really ducking is having to make funny jokes for the eye of America/world. The resident has no sense of humor at all, except for some very lewd and extremely sexist jokes that make even the the ears of the Republicans glow. His idea of a joke is to ridicule people. So he'll have to get up there and try to pull off the "jokes" his equally unfunny staff has put to paper and even Drumpf knows he's setting himself up for failure if he did that. And if there's one thing Drumpf never consciously does, is set himself up for failure. He rather duck and quack.

I do hope all media that Drumpf has banned from The White House Correspondence Dinner will attend Sam Bee's NOT TWHCD, and so will all those who have boycotted Drumpf's. It's also for a very good cause;  I assume better than that of the Republican White House version although I don't know what it is. But as with most things that Drumpf "donates" to charity, they never get there but end up in his own pockets, so why would this be any different?

  7. The Wall Street Journal issued a statement censoring the ban of certain journalists from the press conference and declared that if it happens again, they will not attend either.  Not bad from the Wall Street Journal!

trump has no sense of humor….best he should go play golf…

  8. Arielle, that id very good news to hear!   It seems "Schmuck à l'Orange" is setting himself up to be bigly isolated from that part of the world that has a functioning brain.  Are folks aware that having no sense of humor is probably a symptom of his Maligmnant Narcissism?

My wife recently wondered aloud about what will happen to the "Kennedy Center Honors" this year.  I can not see "Schmuck à l'Orange" being there.  Perhaps we are going to see a new iteration of "Alternate Facts," as "Alternate World," as he spirals into a tighter little knot of being, and the rest of the world does the Sam Bee thing!

  9. Thanks all!  Hugs!!
