Portland is now under a full Winter Storm Warning, and it has been snowing all night and all day.  Subfreezing temperatures are forecast until Sunday.  As I feared it might, the weather has screwed up my day.  On Wednesdays I take a morning nap, to be sure to be up when Store to Door arrives with my groceries.  I was about to get up when the call came from Store to Door.  All grocery deliveries are cancelled.  Then Wendy called.  Her school is closed for a snow day, and she was at the store.  She’s picking up a few staples for me and wants to come in the next hour or so, instead of this evening.  Dang!  If I were ten years younger and hadn’t forgotten how, I’d marry her.  So I’m not sure when this will be published or uploaded to Care2.

From The Rachel Maddow Show: Unverified Trump, Russia blackmail allegations roil US politics

Richard Engel, NBC News chief foreign correspondent, talks with Rachel Maddow about a report that Donald Trump and President Obama were briefed on unverified claims that Russia has compromised Trump with a cache of incriminating or scandalous material.

You can read the document here.  I believe it, but I do so on the basis of instinct, not verifiable evidence. I’m waiting for that, and if proven, Trumps minority election must be invalidated.  RESIST!!

From Washington Post: The widow of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. urged Congress to block the 1986 nomination of Jeff Sessions for federal judge, saying that allowing him to join the federal bench would “irreparably damage the work of my husband,” according to the letter written by King that was previously publicly unavailable and obtained on Tuesday by The Post.

Senator Strom Thurmond (R-KKK) protected Beauregard in 1986 by burying the letter and not including it in the record. Please click through and read it in its entirety. Then call your Senator to demand that it be read into the record for this hearing.  RESIST!!

From PoliticusUSA:

America is not giving Donald Trump a warm welcome to the White House as a new poll found that Trump’s job approval rating has dropped seven points to 37% over the past month.

According to Quinnipiac University, Trump has an unfavorable rating of 51% and unfavorable rating of 37%. The president-elect’s favorability ratings are down seven points over the last 30 days.

Respondents also had highly unfavorable views of Trump’s personal traits:

53 – 39 percent that he is not honest, compared to 52 – 42 percent November 22;
49 – 44 percent that he has good leadership skills, compared to 56 – 38 percent;
52 – 44 percent that he does not care about average Americans, compared to 51 – 45
percent who said he did care;
62 – 33 percent that he is not level-headed, compared to 57 – 38 percent;
71 – 25 percent that he is a strong person, compared to 74 – 23 percent;
68 – 27 percent that he is intelligent, compared to 74 – 21 percent.

Most losers of Presidential elections compare favorably to the Bullshit Banana.  RESIST!!

  1. Riffing on Traitorous Trump's alleged fondness for "golden showers" (you can Google it), George Takei sent out a Tweet that someone coverted to a neat poster:

  2. 3:26  Vultures can be attractive. IMO, and, also IMO, this is one of the nicest looking.  Fifty years ago I had a vukture plushy, so that may have influenced me.

    RMS – Oh, I believe it too.  Especially with the detail about why.  And all they could come up with on Hillary was conversations on which she expressed opinions which conflict with later positions?  Holy crap.  Apparently they never heard of growth.  Or, I guess more to the point, they think we never heard of growth, and about too many of us, they are right.

    WaPo – I read this in DKOs and it was noted that the letter HAS now been read into the record, but I don't remember the details.  I'll try to find it again and get back on it.  Later – I can't find it.  I hope I wasn't imagining it, but fear I was.

    Politicus – Good – though maybe not good enough – looks like a lot of stubborn clingers are still left.

    Cartoon – And ain't THAT the truth!

    • Oh, God! I unfortunately believe the NEW allegations that Russia has the ENTIRE goods on Drumpfenfarten!!! He is NOT FIT to be president!!! If all they got in Hillary was email irregularities, this makes her look like an ANGEL!!!

  3. How do we send the letter to the committee to be read in to the record? Sessions has to be STOPPED! He CANNOT be the chief lawyer in the US!!! RESIST!!!

    WOW! I can't believe that this SICK BASTARD is gonna be inaugurated SOON!! Such a deviant! And I thought I had a bad record! He makes me pale in comparison!!!

    RESIST, RESIST, RESIST!!!

  4. WP: I have just left  a message for Sen. Booker, asking that he read Ms. king's 1986 letter into the record of the Sessions hearings!

    Maddow: I have no trouble beliving the allegations, but, for now, at least, they are only hearsay.

    Poitics USA: So,people are waking up…finally, maybe!

    Cartoon: Nailed!

  5. *Nameless: Thanks for the pic! Love George!

    RMS:  He'll deny any knowledge of it, and lie. And then twitter how people are making up 'fake news'. He's not my President!  He had a press conference today, and I watched it for a few minutes. You may view it here…ugh!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkuYtfRBtAY

    WaPo: I read it was released, and may well prove to be embarrassing for Sessions. (Not that he cares)..;-(

    Politicus: Well…it's steadily rising….folks are finding out, what he's made of.

    Cartoon: Pathetically sad, isn't it?

    Glad that Wendy got some groceries for you, and stopped by. Hunker down, stay safe, stay warm! Enjoy your evening, and Thanks, Tom.

  6. The big concern I have WRT the allegations – if Traitorous Trump were ever able to PROVE BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT  that they were false, he'd used that ANY TIME there was even a whiff of illegality on his part: "You mean the same crew that said I liked to be peed on?"

    And forget there being a "whiff" – his tenure will produce a stench worse than the one Hercules had to deal with while cleaning the Augean Stables!

    • Agatha Christie put her own spin on a modern version of the Augean Stables stor (in the book The Labors of Hercules) – but having lived through this election, I fear that her idea would not work; would, in fact, backfire.  Good reference.

  7. Hang on to Wendy, and if necessary to keep her,propose!

    Rachel Maddow:  All this is unverified, and I expect it to be swept under the rug, with no real effort to determine its truth.  I agree with your assessment, if it is true, his election should be invalidated.

    Washington Post:  Her letter should be read.  I won't call McConnell or Paul, though, I have been told by several friends that as soon as they say why they are calling, they get disconnected.  No surprise there.

    Politicus USA:  A day late and a dollar short, now they discover he isn't reliable, honest, or smart!  Where were their brains prior to the election?

    Cartoon:  Yep!

  8. First of all, thank you all for your kind words and well wishes for my recovery yesterday.
    I'm doing a bit better. read below the fold for an update or skip directly to the much more relevant comment below 🙂

    —————————————————————————————–

    I did find a doctor yesterday and after a very long consult including two sessions with an inhaler to try and alleviate my asthma-like lung spasms I ended up with an armful of prescriptions (I was foolish enough to answer truthfully that I assumed my (travel)insurance would fully compensate it) to combat the bronchitis. These medications however take time to kick in and won't give me a quick relief from the constant tickling and maddening need to cough, so to alleviate that I'm back to taking many sips of water. Not cold, as you would do, and I had done, when it's nearly 40 degrees C in the shade, but room temperature. And hot tea. Doctor's advise and he's right, cold only intensifies the irritation. Hopefully that will keep me from pulling any muscles, or throwing up, as I did. 😀 But if I get a better night's sleep tonight, I'm sure I'll feel much better tomorrow and will survive the flights back, i.e. won't be thrown off in mid-air for keeping 350 people on the airbus awake 😉

  9. I heard there are Winter Storm Warnings out for 30 states now and that sounds so surreal when all my news talks about a heat wave for most of Oz and complete fire bans for New South Wales. Well at least we can get to all the food and drink we need, You're so lucky to have Wendy, TomCat. What the hell, so you're past your marrying prime and you forgot how to: propose to her before she gets away!

    Rachel Maddow: Still can see it. I do think Russia has something on Drumpf, if only his stupidity to want to make one or more deals with Putin, but it is nothing like the sleazy sex insinuations some have "leaked". As soon as I heard that, alarm bells went off. This sounds too much like a "counter leak" by the Drumpf team to bury all of the true allegations with. If people will not believe this, they're not wont to believe any other hold on Drumpf by the Kremlin either.
    Either way, Putin wins. American politics is in complete disarray and America, digging in for battles before the new king is even anointed, is too busy to see what is going on in the rest of the world. Did you see many reports on the Chinese flight deck ship passing Taiwan as part of a "normal naval excercise"?

    WP: Post-racial era? My foot. Racism was alive and kicking in 1986 and it's alive and kicking now and Republicans always used it to their advantage. If Coretta Scott King's letter was made to disappear from the records in '86, perhaps aiding Sessions in becoming a judge, it mustn't be allowed to disappear again, perhaps aiding him in becoming head of the Justice Department.

    RESIST!

    PUSA: A long-time Australian correspondent in Washington was aske don the news this morning what he thought about Drumpf's press conference and he said he was shocked – even after a year – that he was still so abrasive, so self-centered, well…so Drumpf when he was about to be inaugurated and he quoted these poll figures too. The news reporter here remarked that those numbers wouldn't do much to change the minds of Drumpf voters, because the polls had been very wrong before. The correspondent answered that this was true, but that the one thing Drumpf seems to forget that he won the election because he wasn't a politician and didn't behave like one, but that by winning the presidency he automatically has become one. But the press conference shows that Drumpf still behaves as if he's campaigning and doesn't realize that he has to change his approach because people will no longer judge him as a good campaigner but on his merits as a president. Even his voters will now do that. Good point, I think.

  10. Puzzle — 3:07  Don't choke on this one Puddy Tat!

    TRMS — You play with a bull, you get the horns!  While I believe the allegations, there still  needs to be some verification or corroboration.  When that is in, watch the shit hit the fan!

    Resist!!!

    Washington Post — There isn't a carpet big enough for Sessions to sweep this under.  Leopards don't usually change their spots.  I understand that there is one Republican senator that may vote against Sessions which would be interesting since they all goosestep together.

    Resist!!!

    Politicususa — Buyer's remorse settling in?  It certainly would seem so.

    Long day yesterday taking my mother to a specialist and then back to her place for a board committee meeting and a Family Council meeting.  By the time I got home, I was wasted.  My laptop is acting up again.  I think it is the Microsoft e . . . I can connect to the internet but I can't do anything while there.  I am now on my desktop.  Then today was busy with physio and annual eye exam . . . good news, I am not blind but I do need new glasses.  My prescription has changed over the past 4 years enough to warrant.  And there is a good chance that I will be speaking on television as part of a news conference on elder care etc.  Meryl Streep move over!  I am sure glad that Wendy is there to help you, and is so gracious about it.  We may have some snow on the weekend, but more likely a lot of rain.  We have had an Arctic blast — cold (-9C) and dry.  Everyone is walking around with hair like Einstein's!

  11. Thanks all!  Hugs!!
