It warmed up to 40° yesterday, but Portland is under another Winter Weather Advisory with more snow expected this evening.  I think I have my meds transition squared away.  In case you forgot, Obama’s farewell address is tonight at 6 PM PST (9 PM EST)(2 AM GMT).  The White House has a live stream.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:56 (average 6:52).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: In an emergency meeting at Trump Tower on Monday morning, President-elect Donald J. Trump urged the heads of the nation’s intelligence agencies to “stop picking on Russia” and instead focus on “the very real threat” posed by Hollywood actresses.

Calling the recent allegations against Russia a “witch hunt,” Trump told the intelligence chiefs that their investigations of Russian President Vladimir Putin were distracting them from “America’s real enemy, actresses.”

Growing increasingly irate, he laid out a series of proposals for dealing with what he called a “scourge,” including mandatory registration of actresses and a temporary ban on actresses entering the country.

Andy, this time, I believe you!  RESIST!!

From YouTube (GQ Channel): This Russian Obsession Shows How Trump Will Be Undone | The Resistance with Keith Olbermann

Keith made it crystal clear. Russian Spies fed Assange. Assange fed Trump. But let’s not forget that one other politician joined in on the collusion between Putin, Assange and Trump. That was Jill Stein.  RESIST!!

From Washington Post: Senate Democrats are not going to be able to block Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions bid to become attorney general. And they can’t do much to stop Kansas Rep. Mike Pompeo from assuming the helm of the CIA.

And they have only themselves to thank for it.

That’s because exactly three years ago, the Democratic Senate majority — led by Harry Reid (Nev.) — rammed through controversial rules fundamentally changing the way the Senate does business. They unleashed in November 2013 what’s called the “nuclear option” allowing senators to approve by a simple majority all presidential appointments to the executive branch and the judiciary, with a big exception for Supreme Court justices.

It is a sad irony that so many Senate Democrats will be accused of being spineless, because of the one thing they did in the last eight years that was not spineless.  I was for invoking the nuclear option, and I was right.  The problem is that Republicans should have never been allowed to ride Trump’s and Putin’s coattails to an undeserved Senate majority.  RESIST!!

  1. MONDAY:  4:34  Definitely Greek, but they look like they are in Pisa.
TODAY:   5:21  I do see why one might get hung up.

Yeah, we had high winds.  Someone said a hundred mph but I don't know whether that is real or an exaggeration.  My entire back fence is flat, as is the one between me and a neighbor (the other neighbor's is still up, but there's also a shed each side of it).  I have several land line phones (so I don't have to run when it rings), but all are cordless, so unusable.  And no heat and no cooking.  I do have a cell,ut it's old and I only use it in emergencies, and I was pretty sure its charge would not hold up for their hold time, and I couldn't very well recharge it.  Boy, do I appreciate the light and warmth now!

TNY – Naturally the Resident-elect would be terrified of any one, especially a woman, who is charming, talented, and SMART.  I would say that was a no-brainer – except that Andy always uses his brain – and it always shows.

YT/GQ – Always glad to see more from Keith.  And, boy, can he evaluate evidence!  I'm not sure Trump supporters can, however, or even follow him when he lays it out so clearly – always assuming they would watch.  But we do.

WaPo – Yeah.  I wish us the best of luck.  We'll need it.

Cartoon – A local news anchor here was fired for telling this joke, not even on camera:  "Lorena Bobbitt was in town this week, and had difficulty in traffic.  Some dick cut her off."  I know she shouldn't have done it (the anchor, not Lorena).  But it is funny.

  2. "Every republican Should Have a Bobbit"

Given SCROTUS' teeny, tiny little hands – Lorena would have her work cut out for her (pun intended).

  3. NYer: I find Andy's articles witty, and I sure do enjoy his hint of sarcasm with what-his-name's immediate concerns with the Nation as a whole.

YT: Great timeline of the Twit's tweets! Spot on, Keith, keep them coming!!!

    WP: Mercy to us all!!

Cartoon: I remember this, I wonder what she is doing now? Your comment on the pic, well, at least w/in an inch or two.

I will be watching President Obama's farewell speech tonight. We are at 70 presently with high gusts of wind. The wind brought a plentiful group of Assassin bugs partying on the front porch here too. I got bit by a wheel bug a few years ago, and remember the pain of that sting. Hope you have a good evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom. Did you watch the Clemson/Alabama game? Wow!

  4. just keep reminding "minority president", "russia", resist, resist, resist!!!

  5. Oh, Andy! Such levity in such a warm day! Makes me want to do a jig! It's warm here, also! We are having a mini-heat wave here! It's in the 50's! Oops! Sorry. Make that 60's! And an ice storm on the way in a couple of days! Maybe an inch to two inches of ice! Just depends where the freezing line is as to whether we get all of that in ice or just rain. Ugh! One week it's 5 below zero, the next, 60-70 ABOVE ZERO! Winter has been a yoyo in temps!

    RESIST!

Keith is right! Assange is a dummy that passed along EVERYTHING he hears and sees as fact! Doesn't matter who did it or said it! He believes whatever he wants to and then passes it along to Drumpfenfarten, who then passes it along as factual information that he has "researched and found true"! Ugh! Even I'm not that gullible!

Drumpfenfarten needs a Bobbit in his life, and now, RIGHT NOW! Maybe then he would quit trying to stroke his ego with the office of the presidency!

  6. Sorry, need to find myself a doctor who'll describe me some strong codeine medication to stop me from coughing out what's left of my lungs. If I keep this continuous hacking up, they won't allow me to board the plane on Friday, so I'm afraid this'll have to take prority over commenting.;-)

    • Oh, dear, that doesn't sound good at all!  Weather?  Allergies?  Bug (bacterial, viral, fungal)?  Combination?  Much sympathy and many good thoughts.

    • Find a doctor soon.  I still have a little of the respiratory infection that started Dec. 9.  Then New Years Eve I had an appendectomy.  They don't go well together.

    • Please be careful.  Last fall, I coughed so hard that I ended up with intercostal muscle sprains which was extremely painful — I couldn't sit, I couldn't lie down, I couldn't walk, I couldn't breathe without great pain.  It took 3 weeks to heal.

Hope you're feeling better right smartly!

    • I hope yopu feel better.  Take care.  I've done what Lynn did, and I cab confirm, itr's weeks of excruciating pain.

  7. New Yorker: Rumpy will seek ANY scapegoat, any time, for anything!

YTGQ: To watch this man slowly (slowly is too long to take) loose what little mind he has will be a joy! Except that the country will pay for the idiocy it unwittingly unleashed.

WP: If this irony is the case, it is just too sad1

Cartoon: For the GOPigs- "Bibbity, Bobbitty, Boo!"

  8. I hope you have better weather soon!

The New Yorker:  Andy nails it!  Those wicked actors are berating the Donald and need to be punished!

YouTube:  "He won't leave it alone".  He can't because his ego want let him.  CNN released a report today that says there is proof that Trump owes money to the Russian mob.  No wonder he wouldn't release his financial documents.

Washington Post:   So the only thing the Democrats did to fight the Republicans is now going to bite them in the butt.  Figures.

    Cartoon?  They couldn't cope!

  9. Puzzle — 4:22  It can't be water tight because I began to cry trying to get the pieces in the correct place!

The New Yorker — Pretty much straight reporting.  Trump is definite a despicable person who has no sense of priorities for the country.

BTW, CBC reports George Clooney's response to Trump over his basting of Merle Streep: ""Aren't you supposed to be running the country?" said Clooney in response, adding that the U.S. was about to be "unlucky" in its choice of president."

    Resist!!!

Youtube — Keith is such a treasure and spot on!  Trump is his own worst enemy.  JD, I know Trump supporters can't follow Keith even when he lays it out simply.  Low information voters, or is there a new category — no information voters!

    Resist!!!

Washington Post — A "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of situation for Senate  Dems.  I read earlier that Sessions said during today's hearing that he would recuse himself from anything coming up about Clinton's e-mails and the Clinton Foundation.  I think the country would be better off if he would recuse himself from the whole appointment, but that won't help.

    Resist!!!

Cartoon — I wonder if Loreena would be available to do a "Bobbitt" on a pair of pussy grabbing hands?

  10. Thanks and hugs!
