I’m getting ready to leave for today’s Physical Terrorism with Courtney, aka Lady Torquemada.  It’s 21° outside.  I’ll be wearing jeans, a heavy T-shirt, under a thermal sweatshirt top, under a hoodie, a faux fur Russian hat, and ski gloves.  This will be my coldest trip since losing my leg.  This is my only article today, as I’ll be quite tired when I return.  I’ll finish this then.

I made it back safely with good news.  My progress is such that  Courtney is cutting me back from two sessions to one session monthly.  That will save me $25.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:09 (average 4:53).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Surprise, surprise. Congressional Republicans don’t want to know—or don’t want the public to know—just what exactly Russia did to influence the November elections, and Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham, the guys who were supposedly going to stand up to their fellow Republicans and demand an investigation, are backing down. McCain and Graham have been calling for a select committee, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says that investigations through existing Senate committees are enough.

Like I said a few says ago, McConJob and Lindsey Poo were just posturing to look better than they are. As I expected they are now goose-stepping in lock step with the Tangerine Traitor’s Republican Rectum Reich.

From The New Yorker: Amid reports that Charles Manson is ill, the Donald Trump transition team has removed his name from its list of potential Supreme Court nominees.

For President-elect Trump, the development was a serious setback, since Manson had reportedly topped the short list of Supreme Court picks since his name was first floated last December.

At that time, Trump said that Manson’s extensive experience with the judiciary made him uniquely qualified to “shake up the Supreme Court.”

Dang Andy!! Charlie is a perfect match with Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten.

From NY Times: Mexicans Are the Nafta Winners? It’s News to Them

The Gray Lady misses the point entirely. Whether Mexican workers are better off under NAFTA than American workers, or vice-versa is not what NAFTA is about. Neither are.  NAFTA benefits greedy 1% vulture capitalists.

  1. 4:09  Too cold for fishing today for me (probably for you too.)

Good for you!  Being a good patient does have its rewards!

I know that, besides everyone in the US who reads PP, there are people all over the world who also read it, many of whom are in sympathy with the United States, including equally appalled by the selection of Donald Trump (I cannnot call it an election) to be our next Resident (I just cannot say President.)  Well, you probably already know, but you are in luck.  Here are two links to calls to international action on January 20, Inauguration Day.  http://www.workers.org/j20/global-appeal/  and
http://iacenter.org/3617/j20resist-call-for-global-actions-against-trump-the-new-face-of-u-s-imperialism/  Both sites also list some reasons why, besides sympathy with us, you should care.

DKos – Republicns are so weird that news can change by the minute.  http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/1/5/1617306/-Is-Trump-watching-this-Check-his-Tweet-because-it-won-t-be-sweet-if-he-is

TNY – Oh.  What a pity.  /s  (Petition to Schumer to keep his newly discovered backbone intact:  https://www.dailykos.com/campaigns/petitions/sign-the-petition-reject-any-trump-supreme-court-nominee )

NYT – Is the Gray Lady really missing the point?  Or is she just running her gray mouth as a distraction?

Cartoon – Ummm – And then there's the Washington Post – which did this:  http://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/01/05/1617289/-WaPo-makes-dick-ish-cover-art-error-leading-many-to-question-if-they-employ-any-female-editors  They have corrected it, but, on the internet, nothing ever dies LOL.

    RESIST !!!

  2. Stay warm AND safe!

MSNBC continues its right-wing lurch lunge by now adding another former Fox News host, Greta Van Susteren,

Greta gets her own evening news show

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/greta-van-susteren-msnbc-show

    • Seems Rachel Maddows will have to look for a new job soon.

When will progressives start their own TV network?

      • At one time MSNBC WAS a progressive network.

But right-wing loving Comcast changed all that!

(Pretty sure I've mentioned that I LOATHE Comcast – and that was long before they became the Overlords of MSNBC.)

And now MSNBC has added to their stable of Chucky Todd, Andrea (nee Mitchell) Greenspan, Mattie Lauer the likes of former Fox "pundits" Megyn Kelly and Great van Susteren.

        *sigh*

      • The Young Turks are progressive, but online only!

  3. Read this:

    ELECTION 2016
    BREAKING:
At Least 50 Trump Electors Were Illegitimately Seated as Electoral College Members
More evidence surfaces as calls mount to challenge congressional ratification of Electoral College vote.

    .

  4. DK: Investigation?? 'Wha…?' Nope, nothing to see or do here, go about your daily routines, folks. They're such A–Hats!!!

NYer: Awww…..that's a shame, really. They would make wonderful 'noise' together. LOL, Andy!

NYT: The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. Sad!

    Cartoon: Who? Us? Never!!

*Nameless: Greta Van Susteren leaving Faux to go on MSNBC? WOW! i Oh, ..ick!
*Jim: I read that this morning, I wish someone would get off their backsides and investigate this, time is running out!

Glad that your session went well, and down to one visit per month is excellent! Stay nice and toasty, and relax. Enjoy your evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  5. Congratulations on your progress, TomCat, both on getting yourself to Courtney in the middle of a very cold winter, and on your physical advancement under her regime too.

DK: Even the non-Americans here could not find fault with your predictions on McCain and Graham. Jeez, these Republicans are so transparent to anyone not a Republican. Do they really think anyone really felt for their posturing? All Mitch McConnel is after is to save his own a$$e and his wife's job, so an independent inquiry is the last thing we can expect of him. MCCain and Graham want to remain in the seat of power too (I can't imagine these filthy rich do it for the salary), so they'll pull their turd back in (Dutch proverb) and start praising Drumpf like the rest of the despicables. So now it's up to the American people and the Democrats to demand an INDEPENDENT investigation. That should warrant a few protest marches, shouldn't it?

    RESIST!

TNY: Whoow, Andy's sarcasm is getting darker by the day! Mason would have made an excellent successor to Scalia, though. They both believed in Satan and his powers and both were equally lucid.

NYT: Spot on, TomCat; NAFTA would create opportunities for no one but the 1%. It's about time Americans, Mexicans and the workers in all other countries woke up and realized who is really ruling the world and at whose expense..

Cartoon: Men of quality…har har har cough cough…Republicans wouldn't recognize one if they fell over one. They think Drumpf is a man of quality…need I say more.

  6. Puzzle — 3:10  I tripped on the wharf!

Daily Kos —  So McCain and Graham have sounded a full retreat!  What can I say  . . . they're Republicans!  They only know going backwards!

    Resist!!!

The New Yorker — Based on Drumpfenfarten's other nominees for various posts, Charlie Manson fits right in!  I don't know why being ill should preclude him from the post.  After all, the whole bunch are sick in one way or another!

NY Times — The 1% win, and in order to win more, they upgrade technology to replace people.

    Resist!!!

    Cartoon — There's the problem . . . Republicans don't have men of quality!

    Resist!!!

Good news on the physio front!  Proud of you dude!  You've come a long way in 15 months!  Were jeans enough?  I'd recommend longjohns in this weather!  BTW, I took some pictures today of the snow by my student's house.  I'll try to post them tomorrow.  We are supposed to get more snow tonight and tomorrow, then more again on Saturday and Sunday.  Who ever says climate change is a hoax, we are proof that they are wrong!

  7. Thanks all!  Hugs!!

  8. Glad to hear you are no only saving money, but saving time out in the world when you have to go to the terroist, er, Therapist!

It's 17 right now and the wind chill is 4! You guys got it balmy up there!

  9. DK: No real surprise!  For a few minutes I thought they had bought some backbone, but noooooo!

NYT: The 15 keep on sucking in the lion's share of income gains: 52% of it in the so-called economic recovery, from 2009 to 2015.

New Yorker: "Manson in McCrorystan" might have been a good mix, if Copperhad not won.
