It’s the last day of what has turned out to be the worst year for the US in our history. The Siberian candidate is upon us. For me tomorrow is a perfect storm day. I need to transition all my personal record keeping, all my prison volunteer group record keeping, and all the tools I use to manage my PP writing to 2017. In addition, it’s the day I do the data collection for the PP monthly report, which may be a day or two late. On top of that, It’s a holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb. My Broncos went from Super Bowl Champs to not even making the playoffs, so tomorrow is their last meditation of the year against the Raiders. It will be televised here. And finally, it’s a Wendy day. In short, I’ll be trying to put five pounds of shit in a one pound bag.

From Daily Kos: The Portland Press Herald is reporting M.D. Harmon, a well-known conservative newspaper columnist, has died after a gun was improperly fired in his home by a visiting teenager. Harmon was showing one of his guns to the young man:
Police say the 71-year-old Harmon died at his home on Brunell Avenue after a handgun he was showing a teenage boy went off. The 16-year-old boy was handling the gun at the time.
Harmon, a steadfast defender of gun rights and champion of conservative viewpoints, was a longtime Maine Sunday Telegram and Press Herald editor and columnist. He worked for the newspapers for 41 years before retiring in 2011, although he continued writing a weekly column.

YT/TYT – The school board is elected, so it's questionable to me whether the other board members can fire him, but they are certainly trying. On a 6-2 vote, they voted to kick him out, and are appealing to the state commissioner to make it happen. Like so many despicables, though, Paladino is pretty good at digging in his heels. BTW – Yeah, he probably meant it as a "joke." A lot of bullies us "humor" as a club to bully with.
The Hill – Does Trump even know what the Solicitor General is or does? Oh, I suppose it doesn't matter anyway.
DK – There are people trying to read more into this, but I agree, it's appropriate karma just on the face of it. One of the things he was against for so long, BtW, was teaching gun safety. Can you say irony?

Actually the School Board voted on a resolution demanding that he resign.
And if he doesn't resign, they voted "to retain outside legal counsel" to petition the State Commissioner, MaryEllen Elia, to remove him. But that'll be an awfully slow process.

My point exactly they can "demand," but they can't actually fire him themselves if he is elected and he refuses. Presumably the State Commissioner can, but I agree, s-l-o-w-l-y. There are so many people in offices we'd like to get rid of! My first question is always "How?" My state has, or used to have generous recall provisions. (I was a comparative newcomer to the state myself when I read a quip about "newcomers who are unfamiliar with our system of government by recall.") They do still happen. I'm not sure about school boards. There was one up in the northeaster corner of the state where the parents were unhappy with the whole board. I don't remember how that turned out.

( President-elect Donald Trump has named his longtime attorney Jason Greenblatt, who also has advised him on Israel, to the position of “special representative for international negotiations.”) How many alarm bells do Americans need to go off before they all realize what their non-president is up to?

Well, if anyone can put five pounds of shit in a one pound bag, you can! Just be thankful you don't live here, otherwise you'd be putting 5 kilos of shit in a one kilo bag, and that is a lot heavier! You don't have to do it, so don't. Relax! Meditate! We had more snow today making driving very difficult, even for those of us with good winter tires and knowledge of driving safely in snow. I was going to take some pictures of the snow today but I had to turn back. The plows hadn't been out yet where I was going. I'll get them in a day or so. Temps are heading down — minus 5 C tonight. Next week, the high temps are expected to be 0 which is very unusual for us, and the lows around -12C. Tomorrow I am going to see my mother and taking some treats — veggie and fruit trays, plus pofiteroles — for the staff who really do take such good care of her, and all the others.
Well it is midnight and I hear a few fireworks in the distance but not bad at all, so far. It could be that the slick driving has put a kibosh on a lot of partying.
