As a rule, most of us would agree that the media did an absolutely atrocious job of reporting on future Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten.  There were a number of reasons for this.  One is that Faux Noise is the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda.  Another is self-interest.  A horserace brings in more advertising dollars that a blowout.  Another is that the Fuhrer lied faster than anyone could fact- check.  But, it confused me that when I watched local news, they seldom challenged even his most blatant lies.  Why?  They became the worst media the Fuhrer could bribe.

President-elect Donald Trump has long positioned himself at odds with the media, lashing out at reporters and outlets that dared to criticize him or shine light on his numerous scandals. His vitriol toward the press became so intense on the campaign trail that reporters covering his rallies began to fear for their safety.

The Trump campaign also sought out allies, like Fox News’ Sean Hannity, to counteract the media’s attempt at straightforward coverage with airtime unencumbered by tough questions (over $31 million in free airtime, in fact). Now it seems Hannity wasn’t the only one. The campaign struck a deal with Sinclair Broadcast Group for similarly uncritical coverage, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner reportedly told a group of business executives in Manhattan Friday.

Sinclair got more access to Trump and the campaign and, in return, broadcast Trump interviews without commentary to its television stations across the country, six people who heard Kushner’s remarks told Politico.

“Kushner highlighted that Sinclair, in states like Ohio, reaches a much wider audience — around 250,000 listeners — than networks like CNN, which reach somewhere around 30,000.”A Trump spokesperson told Politico the Sinclair deal included interviews running across every affiliate and that the campaign had sought to disseminate information through other media companies with affiliates, like Hearst.

Sinclair Broadcast Group owns or has partnerships with 173 television stations, on 482 channels, in 81 U.S. markets, according to its website [media whores delinked]…

The Sinclair station here in Portland is KATU, the ABC affiliate.  Tomorrow IK intend to call them and ask them why I should support their advertisers when they profit from prostituting their profession to the Nazi Nincompoop!

  1. Wendy just arrived.  Please don't upload today's articles to Care2.  I'll do it later.

  2. Unfortunately, too many uninformed voters out there either don't care, don't want to know, or are not intelligent enough to seek the truth.   Faux News has always been one -sided and pathetically full of crapola.  Trump is the supreme intimidator/manipulator.

One way or another, he has to go.

  3. What scared me was the vitriol spewing from his mouth, the news media fawning over him, (Faux and others), and many of his followers at his rallies. Several folks hurt at his rallies, and yelled at/beaten because they had 'different views'. Can't remember where I saw this phase, but I'm sayin' it here…"He's not my President". TY whoever wrote that…

    • IIRC, there were white supremacists using it under Obama.  Which was a bad thing.  But it did make the phrase current enough for progressives to pick it right up.  Garrison Keillor is one.  I agree, he's not my President either.  (And I don't mean Keillor.  I wish Keillor were!)

      • My thoughts precisely Joanne!  (If it's sauce for the goose, it's sauce for the gander, as our ancestors used to say.).

      • NOT MMY PRESIDENT has been a regular chant at rallies here.  I said several times that Crawford Caligula was not my president, but never used it as a MEME.

  4. I figure I can't trust anyone.  Well, except for a few individuals.  But no media outlets.  And it certainly looks as if I am right in that.  So I am not really knowledgeable to discuss this.  I will note that there doesn't seem to be anything very close to Colorado, and that Colorado really is a true swing state, with a wide range of views from very right all the way through very left – and it went for Hillary.  So did New Mexico.  So I suppose Sinclair will be expanding into those states as soon as it  possibly can.

    RESIST !!!

  5. How, in hell, does a news outlet strike a deal with a politiican??!!   Faux News does its thing because it is a dysfuctional, sick institution, run by scumbags, for idiots who can't tell their feet apart without road signs, but this is a cut way below even that!

  6. Most of the local stations that we receive are owned by Gray Broadcasting.  I have complained to my family during the entire election cycle that they were giving Trump the advantage.  So the deal with Sinclair Broadcasting was probably not the only oe.  There are few real journalists anymore.

  7. Oh for Walter Cronkite when there was some integrity in news reporting.  Fortunately, in Canada we have laws requiring integrity in news.  However it is still caveat emptor.

  8. No wonder FFFarage went over to share lies and gloat with Trump – they are both cut from the same cloth, liars and demagogues who will say or do anything to get power.   At least we now understand why the 1930s went so wrong – half the population cannot tell a liar when they see or hear one – and they damn us all with them.

    • This is true even of many people who should know better – https://ed.stanford.edu/news/stanford-researchers-find-students-have-trouble-judging-credibility-information-online

When I took physics in high school, one of the FIRST things I was taught was to ALWAYS do a gut check.  He was specifically referring to math, and ways you can check to make sure you haven't misplaced a decimal point, which would make your results off by an order of magnitude.  But there are similar techniques for doing a gut check of news, and I guess they aren't being taught.

      • I use two.  Wear the hat backward and projection.

When considering an idea, also consider the polar opposite.  Research the one that makes the most sense.

Whenever Republicans make accusations, look for evudence that the Republicans are committing that offense.

        • Those are both good.  Another one is, "If this is so, what major news media would have the story?"  I kicked out the Old Gray Lady, but I get breaking updates from the LA Times and the Washington Post.  Very little that is major fails to show up both places.  Neither covers Standing Rock all that well, though.  But one could also ask, "Which major groups would respond?"

One can also ask, "Does this fit the known character of the persons in the story?" but on that one has to watch oneself for confirmation bias.

  9. Yeah. Our affiliate here is KAUT, (FauxSpews) plus we have other ones that are Sinclair affiliates, or used to be. Clinton couldn't get a mention in any of the networks in OK for love not money!

  10. Thanks all!  Hugs!!
