The results of the recent election should teach us to keep informed and keep learning.  While most progressives likely know the lessons of this article, others don't . . . like perhaps the 62,000,000 who voted Republican and those who did not vote for whatever reason.  The right to vote is a sacred responsibility that needs to be practised.  Embrace your responsibility, learn lots, and practise.

WASHINGTON — By now, you've heard that a populist demagogue whose nativist agenda was supported by the alt-right and other white nationalist forces will be the next president. And your next thought might've been: "What?" With so many "isms" associated with supporters of President-elect Donald Trump, it's time for a refresher class on the ideologies and…

  1. I'm sure to get back to this interesting article tomorrow when I have more time to read, Lynn.

  2. Yes, a lot of 'isms' here, and all not good for the country.

He double speaks, and then turns around and does what he wants to do, which isn't in our best interests.

Just heard either Romney or Giuliani for position of SoS? eeek…

    Thanks, Lynn. Great post!

  3. I must object to describing Republlicans as "individualists."  It's not "individualism" when the opportunity to be an "individual" is restricted to white straight cis males.  Allam quotes Politico as saying that Popular-Vote-Loser Trump is "indifferent" to issues of sexual orientation; if true of him, it's not true of his Cabinet, nor is he himself "indifferent" to gender or skin color.  His "defense" of Social Security, health care, and trade, even if sincere (which I doubt), will melt like am Sno-cone in a tanning machine when the rest of the Republicans are turned loose on them.  I don't think that being fair requires us to believe everyone's bull s**t when there is so much evidence that it is bulls**t.

And am I the only one who finds it ironic that whites of European backgrounds seem to think they are "nativists" and are getting little pushback?  I mean, I know the true Natives are pretty busy at Standing Rock, but aren't there enough of us who know better and can't be there to remind whites who think thay are "native" that that title belongs to others?

  4. They forgot rectumism.

  5. It's not individualism when they give themselves over to blindly following a demagogue, cult leader, or the like.  It is giving individualism over to an old fashioned "Father figure,"in the expectation that that one will make "All my boo boos go away!"  Trump's biggest "ism" is "Me-ism!"
