As I cruise through the internet now, I always find too much to share.  Before the election, I thought the US would have Madame President-elect and the tempo would quiet down a bit.  Instead, the US got Herr President-elect, Fuhrer Drumphenfarten as TC would say.  Things will not quiet down but instead ramp up like never before. Stay tuned to Politics Plus as we continue to fight against Fuhrer Drumphenfarten and the fifth Reich.

Short Takes

Youtube — Finally, someone is actually taking responsibility for Herr Drumphenfarten win last Tuesday . . . well sort of.

Bee is so funny and astute . . . and Canadian! (well now with joint Canadian-American citizenship).

Washington Post — Few prognosticators predicted a Donald Trump victory ahead of Tuesday night. Polls showed Hillary Clinton comfortably ahead, and much of America (chiefly the media) failed to anticipate the wave of pro-Trump support that propelled him to victory. But a Washington, D.C.-based professor insisted that Trump was lined up for a win — based on the idea that elections are “primarily a reflection on the performance of the party in power.” …

At the end of our September conversation, Lichtman made another call: that if elected, Trump would eventually be impeached by a Republican Congress that would prefer a President Mike Pence — someone whom establishment Republicans know and trust.

“I'm going to make another prediction,” he said. “This one is not based on a system; it's just my gut. They don't want Trump as president, because they can't control him. He's unpredictable. They'd love to have Pence — an absolutely down-the-line, conservative, controllable Republican. And I'm quite certain Trump will give someone grounds for impeachment, either by doing something that endangers national security or because it helps his pocketbook.”

Click through for the remainder of the article.  I don't know Lichtman but his gut prediction makes sense. Fuhrer Drumphenfarten is an impulsive person given to doing only what benefits him.  Others have said they see a possible impeachment within a year.  Others are calling for impeachment now.  After that, it will be President Pence for the remainder of the 4 year term.

Youtube — And now a word or two from Bill Maher.

Bill is funny, irreverent, and spot on!

Globe and Mail — An Ontario Court judge wore a “Make America Great Again” hat in his courtroom the day after the U.S. election to mark president-elect Donald Trump’s “historic” victory, according to a source in the room.

Ontario Court Justice Bernd Zabel arrived at the John Sopinka courthouse in Hamilton on Wednesday morning wearing Mr. Trump’s signature campaign hat, according to the source, and addressed the numerous lawyers, police officers and defendants. Another witness in the courtroom did not dispute the details.

The incident has prompted an outcry from legal observers who say Justice Zabel’s political display undermines the public’s confidence in judicial impartiality. And they are particularly upset because Mr. Trump has made disparaging remarks about women and minorities.

trump-hat

“The clerk said ‘all rise’ and the door opens and Justice Zabel comes out. He is in a black silk robe with the crimson sash and the white tie. He has a poppy on his lapel. And he is wearing a scarlet-coloured baseball cap that says Make America Great Again. And we all stand because we are supposed to stand when the judge comes in and he looks at everyone and said he was wearing the hat ‘because last night was an historic occasion,’” the source told The Globe and Mail.

“He took the hat off and put it on the bench so everybody could look while he continued his court business. He didn’t put it away. It was sitting on the bench.” Mr. Zabel then came back with the hat after morning break, the source said.

In my book, this is totally unacceptable.  For an institution that is impartial and must be seen to be impartial, this judge sets the wrong tone.  Kellie Leitch, MP for Simcoe-Grey in Ontario, is excited about Drumphenfarten's win in the US and has called for his agenda, particularly his immigration agenda, in Canada. With that kind of rhetoric around, the courts should not be influenced as well.  BTW, Leitch is running for the leadership of the federal Conservative party to replace Herr Harper.

Huffington Post UK  Hat Tip Evelyn B Care2 through the Napster — When Republican frontrunner Donald Trump enjoyed a number of wins on Super Tuesday earlier this week, it seems that a number of Americans began considering a rather drastic option: moving to Canada.

But it looks like US citizens keen to escape the growing popularity of Trump – and perhaps even the nightmarish possibility of him becoming president – could find themselves facing a particularly big hurdle. Or at least if Adam Hills has anything to do with it.

Click through for the remainder of the story.  There is a link in the story where you can click for bricks or you can click here bricking it for canada.  Although this article dates back to 16 March 2016, it's even more appropriate now that Fuhrer Drumphenfarten has won the golden ring, so to speak.  The total bricks is at 2,057,675,870 and still rising!

  1. YouTube – I know EXACTLY how she feels about being a jinx.  I personally can't watch a sporting event without having my team lose (the one exception was when we were so behind I locked myself in the bathroom for an hour and they rallied during that time.)

WaPo – As I said on a Care2 post, I left my Constitution in the other room … but I don't think it is possible to impeach someone who hasn't actually taken office yet.  There probably is some kind of a process … I wouldn't know what it would be … but I do wish people wouldn' say "impeach"  when they want it NOW.

After he takes the oath – sure, he'll give grounds.  Every Republican President since Eisenhower has.  It's mostly been ignored.  And I think we would find President Pence to be orders of magnitude worse than President Trump.

YouTube – Without going into TMI – I am contemplating brewing some tea myself.  And finding out how expensive it can be.  Of course, there's this.

Globe and Mail – Ummm – Was he sober?  This exactly how a drunk taxi driver (yes, you read that right) acted once at an election I was working.  Even to the taking off of the campaign hat and putting it on a table where it would be visible from anywhere in the room.  No, we didn't allow it.  He stormed out without voting (but came back without the hat after getting chewed out by his candidate.)  Too bad you can't have some kind of "decorum officials" in your courts.

HuffPo – be sure to click for a brick.  But if you have a sleeping child or pet nearby, turn down the volume first.

Universe – OMFG yes.  ROTFW ACGU.

  2. Thanks for this Lynn – and for the Bill Maher clip.  So glad you've found the wonder that is Adam Hills and 'The Last Leg' series – the brickingitforcanada site is at 2,058,098,133 as I type!

  3. I don't even have to cruise the internet to find too much on the aftermath of the American elections, Lynn. My Saturday (weekend) newspaper is 75% just that. There's just no getting away from it. And my American friends had promised I wouldn't have to look at that orange face any more πŸ˜₯ And now you come up with three articles filled with horror. Well, actually only two as this one is filled with humor too. Thank you.

YouTube (Sam Bee): She is funny despite the dark message. And she really pinpointed what needs to be done: all women of America, but especially white women, should get busy and work off some karma. It's clear, the future of America will be determined by women.

WP: Lichtman makes a lot of sense. Either Drumpf is impeached within a year or is so overwhelmed by the job that he leaves everything to his ministers and advisors and then take the credit for their work. In both cases the country is effectively run by Pence and the GOP. Either way, America is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

YouTube(Bill Maher): Bill, like Sam, had to look hard to find a silver lining but found one or two, at least for the people living in some states: they could get through the next four years in a pot haze or take a road trip to Colorado. Bill's leading by example, so let's try to do the same: make sure the horrible doesn't pass unnoticed or becomes commonplace, but try to find something positive too, usually found on the other side of the gap.

G&M: Totally unacceptable? Get that man impeached and off the bench. Judges in the Netherlands are dismissed from a case or a court if there is a complaint about partiality and a special College agrees on that. Zabel has thrown the good name of Canadian impartial jurisdiction under the buss and should be thrown after it.

HP UK: I've added a few bricks myself before passing it on, Lynn. In aid of your lovely country, but also to hear that moose bellow and Drump's hair move because of it, LOL.

MPU: A classic by now, sadly. Too true.

  4. YT: Spot on, Sam. Keep 'em coming!!

WP: Boy, wouldn't that be great if that happened? Either way, pick and choose,  DT is a nightmare…it's going to be a long, hard 4 years.

Bill says it like it is, and what I'm thinking. (all the time).

G&M: The poison has spread northward. How sad.

My Universe: Sure do miss Carlin. Love his wise comments.

    Thanks, Lynn for post.

    • Aw, the poison!

When I looked earlier, there was no indication that the judge would face more than a slap on the wrist.  Seems that is not the case.  From RCI

"Several complaints had been made to the Ontario Judicial Council which governs judges and is independent. Complaints were filed by a University of Toronto law professor, the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund, and 27 faculty members at the University of Windsor’s law school. None have withdrawn their complaints in light of the judge’s apology."

The judge has issued a 216 page apology and there are more and more calls for his resignation or removal from the bench. Can't happen fast enough for me.

  5. All your vids are hilarious!

Earlier, I suggested that, if trump were elected that impeaching him woild do us no good, because Pence would be just as bad, so I've considereed the same possibllity.  You may be wrong for the following reason.  Governing is far more work than hating or grabbing pussy, so Trump may well leave the heavy lifting to Lyin' Ryan.

Speaking of impeachment, that's what your judge needs.

    Me too!

  6. EXCELLENT post, Squatch!

  7. Bricking for Canada was at 2,057,675,870 when I posted this and is now at 2,064,680,455 when only 1,545,454,550 were needed to secure Canada's southern border against American encroachment.  That's an increase of over 7 million bricks in 7 days.  Woo Hoo!

Gene, you're so correct, the healing has not begun.  But it cannot start when Trump makes really dumb appointments.  The US cancer that is personified by Trump is going to get worse, metastasise, as evidenced by his cabinet and adviser choices — Sessions, Flynn, Bannon to name just three.

    Heaven help the US.

    Thanks all!
