I must say that I enjoyed meditation yesterday evening.  Today I made my grocery order.  My guys at OSP have a new staff advisor, and in spite of sending three emails, starting three weeks ago, I stall have not received confirmation that they are expecting me at the prison on Thursday, so I need to chase her down today (accomplished).  Tomorrow I have grocery delivery and Wendy, so my week is getting very busy very fast.

Short Takes:

From CBS: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has never had much to say about Donald Trump. But lately, he has fallen completely silent.

On the few occasions when the Republican leader has appeared publicly in his home state of Kentucky this month, he’s either avoided answering reporters’ questions, or explicitly refused to address the topic he acknowledged was on everyone’s mind: His party’s presidential nominee.

At a local Chamber of Commerce event in Danville, McConnell twice instructed the crowd not to ask him about the presidential race “even though that’s what I know you all wanted me to talk about.”

At an earlier event in Pikeville, McConnell refused to answer a reporter’s question about Trump not paying any taxes.

If he had the slightest bit of integrity, he would disavow Trump and withdraw his endorsement, but he has none. That identifies him as a Republican and proves that he is still Bought Bitch Mitch.

From TPM: Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said he is confident that he has laid the groundwork for Democrats to nuke the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees if they win back the Senate in November.

Envisioning Hillary Clinton in the White House and Democrats controlling the Senate, Reid warned that if a Senate Republican minority block her Supreme Court nominee, he is confident the party won’t hesitate to change the filibuster rules again.

How long have I been pleading for Democrats to do this?

From NY Times: Senator Elizabeth Warren delivered a blistering rebuke of Donald J. Trump on Monday, warning him that “nasty women vote” and imploring a crowd to cast ballots for Hillary Clinton.

“I don’t know about you,” Mrs. Clinton said as she flashed a thankful smile and seized the microphone from Ms. Warren at a rally in Manchester, N.H. “But I could listen to Elizabeth Warren go on all day.”

She might have to.

With polls and early voting data signaling that Mrs. Clinton is likely to prevail against Mr. Trump in two weeks, liberal Democrats are already looking past Election Day — and relying on Ms. Warren to become the thorn in chief in Mrs. Clinton’s side, scrutinizing her appointments and agenda.

Please click through for much more. In my unmitigated support of Hillary Clinton over Rump Dump Trump, I have not become naive. Managing her will be far more difficult than electing her, and I expect Elisabeth Warren to be key in that capacity.

  1. 4:27  Timely image.

    Yay for ecstasy!

CBS – All gall is divided into three parts: nerve, cheek, and guts – and he had two of them.

TPM – How long?  I don't know – it was before I found Politics Plus.

NY Times – Yup.  But it will still be better than trying to manage anyone else running.

Cartoon – Zeus.  Very apt.  The Greeks found the Jews and Christians of the day to be extremely narrow-minded when it came to gods.

  2. CBS: No spine at all, he should stand up for integrity and, no wait….he has none. Nothing.

TPM: re: ;your comment, Tom….yeah, that'd be great!! LOL.

NYT: I watched the video, and I always feel like jumping up and yelling 'yeah, you go, Ms. Warren!!' Such a vibrant speaker.

    Cartoon: No, I don't!!!!

Well, I went and voted this morning, and it was a BEAUTIFUL day!!!! I can't say that from last night's game though, and kudos to your team, Tom, as they looked/played better than my guys. And,…no, it wasn't rigged either. (lol). Tomorrow, I speak to HS students about Female Veteran's, and share my story of being in the Navy/Navy Reserve. It will be video taped all throughout the day, from other Veterans as well, and on November 11th, the High school invites us all back to watch the video and to have lunch with them. This is my third year of passing the history on. Wish they would do this district wide, imho. Sounds like you're very busy this week, sure hope you get some rest in between. Enjoy your evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. CBS: BBMItch has no scruples, no testicles, no integrity, just an unrelenting need for power, and the goodies (I guess) tht come with it!  He does not wish to be able to be quoted saying anything that anyone , ever, might bring up against him.  In his cess pool of a heart, he must know that he struck a bargain with the Orange Sepsis that masquerades as a human, with the Tea Prostitutes whose presence on the natinal scene paved the way for the present awfulness/embarrassement.

  4. WOW! I am surprised to see me at the top of the ratings! Thanks for the mention, TC!

Bought Bitch Mitch goes right along with #WhinyLittleBitch from our friend, Bill Maher!

I AM A NASTY WOMAN AND I VOTE! I will be VOTING BLUE!!!

  5. CBS:  Being a Kentucky resident, I will know McTurtle has no integrity.  I don't understand why he keeps getting elected, the only time he comes to Kentucky is during a campaign fund raiser.  He voted against a bill that would help retired miners keep their pension, he voted against a Social Security raise.  People vote against their own best interests.

TPM:  Why didn't Reid do this when he could have?

NY Times:  Clinton is not a Progressive she is a pragmatist.  The left will have to keep the pressure on her if she is elected to see that she follows the platform adopted.  That said, she is better any second of the day than Trump will ever be and I am voting for her.

    Cartoon:  best one yet..

  6. Puzzle — 3:06  Just in time!

Fantasy Football — Good thing for you that I wash my feet every day.  No sticky build up!

CBS — McTurtle is a jackass!  "Despite a lifetime in public service, McConnell…" — More likely a lifetime on the public dole!  I don't think McTurtle knows anything of service to all his constituents, and all Americans.

TPM — Reid has been screwing with the filibuster for too long.  When Dems retake the Senate, the filibuster has to go!

NY Times — As I've said before, hold her (Clinton) feet to the fire!  Lizzie is one of the best to do that, along with Bernie and Brown.

Cartoon — The gods must be crazy if they vote for Republicans!

  7. Busy, busy, busy…it all sound very tiring but very comforting too, because it's the the good type of busy, TomCat. I'm glad your Thursday with the guys is confirmed now and you can start preparing in earnest. I'm sorry to hear that your phantom pain meds are making you lethargic again, that must be another kind of pain somewhere else entirely. This type of medication may take 2-3 weeks, sometimes even longer, to kick in fully and for the side effect to subside. So unless they're not helping for the phantom pain at all or becoming less effective, you may need to give them a little more time perhaps, dreadful as it sounds.

CBS: They don't call Mitch McConnell "McTurtle" for nothing. When the going get tough and he needs to take responsibility for his actions and that of the Republican party he represents, he pulls in his head and thinks that like a turtle, he'll get through any onslaught unscathed. Time to turn this old turtle bell-up and leave him out in the sun to dry for a while.

TPM: Of course Democrats should have changed the filibuster rules when they had a chance. Filibustering is one of those rules (old this time) that politicians (ab)use when they "Do whatever it takes to win", as Reich pointed out yesterday. In the case of Republicans they've filibustered mainly "not to lose" these past eight years, but Democrats haven't shied away from fillibustering in the past either, although to a far lesser extend. It would become Democrats if they change the filibuster rules immediately when if they win back the Senate in November, preferably by dispensing with the outdated custom altogether.

NYT: Clinton will have three strong people to contend with: Warren Sanders and Reich, and all are very capable of gaining the publics attention. I'm sure Clinton is smart enough to want to keep them on her side and not alienate them by leaning towards Republicans too much.

  8. Well, I spent a gorgeous autumnal day putting down my third (and final) lawn fertilizer application.  Maybe a week or two early, but we were supposed to get rain (and we did) that I wanted to take advantage of Mother Nature’s watering it in.

And then for winter prep I cleared out and put away my 15 clay flowerpots.  I don’t like them around when the Trick or Treaters come.  (But I did leave one big pot in the back of just coleuses.)

About half of them are ~ 2.5’ tall and 2’ diameter – and even though the bottoms are filled with empty 2-liter pop bottles to make them lighter, they’re getting heavier and heavier as I get older and older.

I’ve used them for nigh unto to three decades now – but the day will come when they’re just too heavy to lift into the cart to clean out, plant and position around the house in the Spring.  *sigh*

Plus, I put away all the patio furniture – so I earned breaking into the Halloween candy stash for my very own Treat last night!

  9. Thanks all.  Busy hugs!!
