Tonight is a special holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb, as my Broncos are meditating with the Chargers.  I’m hurrying to complete my tasks and finish my supper before it starts,  Go Broncos!!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:05 (average 4:50).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From KP Daily Funnies: FOD: The Cure for Being a Woman

They’d better hide this from Republicans. They’re stupid enough to believe it.

From Daily Kos: This is just fun. Legendary singer, songwriter, musician and activist Carly Simon has given her permission and blessings for her classic song “You’re So Vain” to be used in a video that mocks the conceit of Republican nominee Donald Trump. This marks the first time Simon has allowed her 1972 hit to be used for political purposes. A spokesman for Simon said the singer is:

“…alarmed at the prospect of Donald Trump reaching the White House and has joined other creative voices in making a definitive statement.”

Love it!

From NY Times: Stung by a fierce backlash from Donald J. Trump’s ardent supporters, four Republican members of Congress who had made headlines for demanding that Mr. Trump leave the presidential race retreated quietly this week, conceding that they would still probably vote for the man they had excoriated just days before.

From Senator John Thune of South Dakota, the only member of the Republican leadership in either chamber who had disavowed Mr. Trump, to Representative Scott Garrett of New Jersey, who is in a difficult re-election fight, the lawmakers contorted themselves over Mr. Trump. Some of them would not mention him by name, preferring instead to affirm their support for the generic “Republican ticket,” still grasping for a middle ground.

They said that if Mr. Trump would not make way for his running mate, Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana, to lead the party after the release of a recording on Friday showing Mr. Trump bragging about groping women, they had little choice but to vote for their embattled nominee. But the collective about-face owed less to his refusal to exit a race in which ballots are already being cast than to the fury his supporters unleashed at the defectors at rallies and on social media.

Once again, the Republican Party owns Trump, and Trump owns the Republican Party. They are the same.

  1. 4:47  Gee, they don't give enough information for us to know whether it's toxic.

KPDF – OMG. LOL.  Nail, meet hammer.

DKos – I love it too. There's only one change in the lyric, but it's very telling – the apricot "scarf" is now a "face."  This is not the verse about Warren Beatty, thiough – this is the first verse and he is in the second.  She's still not telling who's in the first and third.  And – there are so many out there who fit – how could anyone ever guess for sure?

NY Times – From Daily Kos's election digest "(N)ow that the Trump campaign is imploding as never before and Republican politicians are scrambling to explain why they supported Trump until the final month of the campaign, Democrats have an opportunity to shift the conversation."  Incidentally, you can tell where people stand pretty much by whether they describe the tape as showing "lewd remarks" on the one hand, or "groping/sexual assault" on the other.

Cartoon – So true.  Great picture.  Who's the artist?

  2. KPDF: LOL !!

DK: This is GREAT! Love Carly!

NYT: GoP = Cluster. “The Republican Party is caught in a theater fire; people are just running to different exits as fast as they can,” said Mr. Law…let it rage on. imho. 😉

    Cartoon: Pretty sad, isn't it?

A family member of mine lives in SD, and is a seasoned Chargers fan. I'm torn between your team and hers, but I'll say this. I wish you (and her) both well tonight. Relax, and enjoy your evening. Thanks, Tom.

  3. Oh, Lordy! The Broncos are having a bad night. I'm watching the game right now and it is 13-3, Chargers right now. Meditate, meditate, meditate! We need some help!

  4. Puzzle — 2:51  Pretty posies that will look great in my house!

KP Daily Funnies — LMAO!!!  Trouble is, many of us are very experienced with this social "diease" called womanhood.

Daily Kos — LMAO!!!  So appropriate for the old fool!

NY Times — Note to Republicans:  Be very careful for that which you wish.  Karma can be a real bitch!

Cartoon — Mmmm . . . not pale enough nor blonde enough to be the pseudo.  I hear Republicans have this guy on the 10 most depised list!

  5. KP Funnies:  Funny, but also sad.  There are still people who believe women are inferior to men.

Daily Kos:  The song perfectly describes Trump!

NY Times:  Ardent is not quite the word I would use to describe Trump supporters.  Deluded, delusional, confused, are a few that I would use, if I was being nice.

Cartoon:  The racists won't get this one.

  6. I hope you've enjoy the game, TomCat., and also that the outcome you wish for. If not, your team has another game to look forward to and revenge themselves, something Clinton no longer has the option of.

KPDF: Very funny, but being so true it's not a comfortable laugh. And they forgot to mention that the best way for a woman to get on top of her womanhood is not only to wear a suit and a short-haired wig, but to start voting Republican too. That'll take care of any side effects like remaining confident for more than 15 minutes after they've taken them off.

DK: There has to be a first for everything and Carly Simon couldn't have picked a better moment and cause to give permission to use her song to for the first time. Kudos to Carly. But Drumpf is so narcissistic and has such yuge knowledge that he now probably not only "knows" this song is about him, but that she wrote it specially for him as a compliment.

NYT: My word, you'd think even Drumpf devotees wouldn't be so stupid to vote for a Republican candidate who drops your favorite guy one day to "support" him again the next. And the few not-so-rabid Republicans left, who agreed with them when they turned away from Drumpf, won't be too happy with their cowardly retreat either. Their Democratic opponents would do well to make the trustworthiness of these Republicans a big part of their campaign.

  7. Thanks all!  Very tired hugs!

  8. The copy mechanism lost somethng in the translation:

    KPDF: Funny again!

    DK: Kudos for Carly.
