Last night I attended the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb from the comfort of my bed.  I was pretty pleased with Trevor Siemian’s performance.  He made lots of mistakes, but you have to expect that with a virtual rookie at QB.  I was so tired that I fell asleep late in the scoreless third quarter with the Broncos behind 7 – 17.  I woke up a couple hours later to a very pleasant surprise.  Yesterday my nerve pain was so severe that I could only get up on George a few seconds at a time.  I had to cancel today’s physical tyranny because of it, and was up for most of last night.  I had discontinues Gabapentin last month, due to side -effects.  Once it was out of my system, I had a doctor’s appointment to choose a new med for nerve pain a week ago, but she had to reschedule it until next Friday.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:26 (average 5:17).  To do it, click here. How did you do?

Woooo Hoooo Ellipsoid Orb!!!

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Responding to a question about his qualifications to be Commander-in-Chief, Donald Trump told NBC’s Matt Lauer on Wednesday night, “At my rallies, I have ordered many, many people to attack other people.”

“In the heat of the moment, you have to decide who is going to hit which person, when, and how hard,” Trump said. “I have ordered more people to attack other people than most of our generals have.”

He said that the outcome of the fights at his rallies showed that he has the judgment necessary to be Commander-in-Chief. “You always want to make the bigger guy hit the littler guy,” he said. “That’s how you win.”

Dang Andy! If Rump Dump Trump had possessed the nuclear football at his rallies, the US would be a nuclear wasteland.

From Daily Kos: Wtf? The truth comes seeping out on CNN and don’t kid yourself, what Dana Bash is saying here is exactly how other media outlets are treating Clinton.

Hillary is being held to a higher standard and Trump, with all his hate and scandals is being given a pass because he is not quite the polished politician.

This is breathtaking and piss poor journalism.

Click through for video.  It’s the media’s job to inform the public of what is, not to substitute their own value judgments about expectations for individual candidates.  It seems virtually all broadcast media have become the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, with the exception of the few honest journalists, like Rachel, left at MSNBC.

From NY Times: Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont did well in the Pacific Northwest during the presidential primary season with his lectern-pounding message about fairness, need and corporate greed. A ballot measure here this fall that would sharply raise corporate taxes is now testing just how deeply Mr. Sanders’s message about economic inequality has sunk in.

“Our corporations have to be held accountable!” shouted Kayse Jama, the executive director of a group called Unite Oregon, as he rallied several hundred supporters of the proposal, known as Measure 97, on a recent evening in a local shopping mall. He even sounded a bit like Mr. Sanders, his voice hoarse with passion.

If approved by the voters here in November, Measure 97 would create the biggest tide of new tax revenue in any state in the nation this year as a percentage of the budget, economists said — and one of the biggest anywhere in recent history. Oregon’s general fund would grow by almost a third, or about $3 billion a year, through a 2.5 percent tax on corporate gross receipts. The initiative language says the money would augment state spending on education, health care and senior services, but does not bind the Legislature to a specific plan.

I fully support Oregon Measure 97, because the people of Oregon need the funds, it only effects corporations with over $20 million in annual sales, and Oregon has one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the nation. Needless to say, Republicans are siding with greed over need. The Gray Lady covered this unusually well. I strongly recommend clicking through for more info about it.

  1. 4:29  I would think most people would prefer the real ones, but I would probably be wrong.

I am so sorry about your pain.  That really can be debilitating.  I am coping with some chronic pain that is MUCH less and I whine shamelessly.  Good luck finding something that works well for you.

"Feel good" story for Friday since Nameless is gallivanting today: http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/9/9/1568347/-Couple-wins-year-s-supply-of-pizza-and-donates-it-all-to-teen-homeless-shelter

New Yorker – Andy's simple grasp of the Drumpfster is breathtaking, isn't it?

DKos – It's known as the dancing bear syndrome.  You don't expect it to be good; you are excessively impressed to see it done at all.

NYT – Nice when the Times covers well.  I wish you the best with your Measure 97.  Please wish me the best with my Amendment 69 (no ulterior meaning – it's Medicare-for-all called "Coloradocare")

Cartoon – Gee, I thought it was white and had a hood attached.

    • PS TC, forgot to say how happy I am for your religious ecstasy – and that Carrie is here to share it with you.

I was somewhat down today because a Federal judge refused to grant an injunction to stop the  Dakota pipelin construction from going on.  Imagine my elation when I just read that three Federal Agencies – the Department of Justice, the Department of the Army, and the Department of the Interior – have united to block the pipeline at Lake Oahe pending a thorough review and reconsideration of the process.

      From the email:

The Department of Justice emphasized that “important issues raised by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and other tribal nations and their members regarding the Dakota Access pipeline specifically, and pipeline-related decision-making generally, remain.” As a result the Army will not authorize construction of the pipeline “on Corps land bordering or under Lake Oahe until it can determine whether it will need to reconsider any of its previous decisions regarding the Lake Oahe site under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) or other federal laws.”

I am so moved I can hardly stand it.

  2. NYer: Keep 'em coming, Andy. I need a laugh every now and then. LOL.

DK: Hold him accountable. He's seeking the POTUS job, and can't even tie his shoelaces w/o getting them tangled. 'Since when does being a first-time candidate mean that the media expects less and grades on a curve?'  That's pretty sad, imho. I usually watch Rachel or Chris, and like their shows.

    Cartoon: Pretty accurate, isn't it?

Gee, hope that your pain abates, sorry to read that you have to wait a week till another appt. Your prayers were answered, good score. I do hope your evening goes well. Take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. *Nameless: Wonderful video! Great story of giving back to the community!

*Thank you, Joanne for the link.

  4. I too was pleased with Siemian last night. He did much better than I expected. As you said he made lots of mistakes, but I predict with time and Kubiak he will improve greatly.

I'm sorry you had to discontinue the Gabipentin ~ that's the only thing that has worked for me and NO reaction. That's amazing for me since I'm usually allergic to anything that helps.

Went to my new doc today. Native American internist who has been working at a Cncer center in Albuquerque. Very pleased with him. Have to use my Albuterol more for a while and take a 5 day course of Prednisone. I really hate that stuff. Good thing next week is payday because I eat us out of house and home when I take it. Have to be careful ~ need to fit into my duds for grandson Taylor's October 8th wedding.

I've said enough about politics for today in one of your other threads. Now I really wll go eat that chile. Barry is HUNGRY! Take care, my friend.

  5. I hope you are feeling better and having less pain. My Mother took gabapentin for almost a year and it did not help her at all.  Congrats on the win by your Broncos.

The New Yorker:  Andy made this sound like something Trump would say, always funny!

Daily Kos:  We, here, all ready knew this.  I will not watch CNN anymore, it is too much like Faux Lite.  Shared on Facebook for my friends who only watch Fox and hate Hillary.

NY Times:  Looks like Oregon is leading the way again!  I hope it passes.

Cartoon:  Because only a dunce would vote REpublican?

  6. Puzzle — 3:35  Now that is some sugar high!

The New Yorker — "If Rump Dump Trump had possessed the nuclear football at his rallies, the US world would be a nuclear wasteland."  . . . it is bad enough that the world must endure Drumpf's toxic spew!

Daily Kos — What a pile of BS!  Whether in politics or business, all aspirants to a position should be evaluated  on the requirements of the job.  That does not mean that they be the same, just that they be assessed on the same basis.  No allowances for being a novice.  World leaders will not cut Drumpf any slack if he, God forbid, becomes POTUS!

NY Times — Oregon leads the way!  Good luck getting this through!

Cartoon — Truth in advertising?  I must say, I agree with JD!

Hope you can make it through to your appointment!  Pain is something that can drive one to distraction and make life miserable!  If rest is what you need, rest when you can.

  7. That was a nice sequence of events, wasn't it. First to see the game from the comfort of your bed, falling asleep when things weren't going well for your team, having a nice refreshing catnap and then waking up to find they'd won by one point after all. You should do that more often, TomCat. Its seems to do both you and the Broncos some good 😉 Have you seen a repeat of the good stuff you missed out on? It won't make up for your phantom pain and itches and the terrible thing about it is that it is literally all in the mind and therefore very hard to combat. Good luck with finding something that does lessen the pain and irritation together with your GP.

TNY: Andy's certainly took his gloves off since Drumpf was nominated Republican candidate; he's going in for a merciless kill. If only Andy's columns would be real blows, Drumpf would have been knocked out of the race before he even began, and that from a KO and not a technical loss on points. Drumpf can't make a point and the defense of his lies is so weak he'd not last the first round.

DK: The article ends with: "The sort of journalistic malpractice that some members of the media are engaging is not only a threat to journalism, but it is how a completely unfit and unqualified candidate could become the next president." There's little that can be added to that, just a lot of shaking of the head and worrying about the future. Because Americans should ask themselves what kind of country they are left with should Clinton win. It's all too obvious who's really ruling the country and they're not going away or lessen their grip on the country if Clinton is in the White House but hasn't got a Blue Congress to back her…and even then…

NYT: Oregon's Measure 97 seems a step in the right direction and I hope voters will support Oregon Unite's Kayse Jama and approve it. Keep us posted, TomCat.

Cartoon: Goes well with the white sheets.

  8. The thing is if you read the headlines to Andy's satire, a lot of folks think it is true because Trump has made even the unbelievable believable now.  I noticed how everyone jumped on Gary Johnson for not knowing Aleppo  (how many people on the street would know?) – but he did give a satisfactory response after he figured out what Aleppo was.  How many times has Trump screwed up even worse and yet he gets a free pass?

Someone in Laos – LAOS – asked the President about Standing Rock – he said he would look into it and a day later, the Feds stopped it.  I am going to miss this President SO SO much.

Article in paper about animals and Obama and all he has done for them….how they will miss him, especially when you see the Trump brats holding animal heads and an elephant tail for pete's sake.  I'd like to deport the entire family to Russia, preferably Siberia.

  9. Thanks all!  Hugs!!
