I took a nap this morning and still need more, but at least I’m enjoying the cool.  It’s a busy day, as I’m waiting for a grocery delivery and have to put them away.  Then Wendy will be coming to de-stink the TomCat.  Tomorrow, I may be late in getting my articles up, as I have to collect all the data and make the graphics for Friday’s Monthly Report.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:43 (average 5:16).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From KP Daily Funnies: Trump’s Doctor Is The Scientist From Independence Day (ft. Brent Spiner)

Having four sphincters instead of a heart explains how he became a Republican Rectumite!

From The New Yorker: President Barack Obama defended his decision on Wednesday to issue a payment of five billion dollars to Mexico to compel that nation to retain custody of Donald J. Trump.

The payment, which will be delivered to the Mexican government in hard American currency by Wednesday afternoon, will insure that Trump will remain in Mexico for the rest of his natural life.

“I have been assured by the government of Mexico that Mr. Trump will be well taken care of and, if he proves to be a productive member of their society, will be provided a pathway to Mexican citizenship,” Obama said.

While the transfer of funds to Mexico sparked howls of protest from some Trump supporters, it was hailed by congressional Democrats, as well as by over a hundred Republicans currently running for reëlection, including Arizona Senator John McCain.

Dang Andy!! That would be cheap at double the price!!

From Daily Kos:

Someone wake Mr. Fermi, and tell him the paradox may be resolved.

SETI researchers are buzzing about a strong spike in radio signals that seemed to come from the direction of a sunlike [sic] star in the constellation Hercules, known as HD 164595.

The signal conceivably fits the profile for an intentional transmission from an extraterrestrial source – but it could also be a case of earthly radio interference, or a microlensing [sic] event in which the star’s gravitational field focused stray signals coming from much farther away.

This is far from the first time that researchers have received a signal that at first looked hopeful, only to discover that it was either an Earthly source masquerading as extraterrestrial, or the result of some natural phenomenon.

I hope it turns out to be real. I would be a real shame for a universe as large as ours to be completely devoid of intelligent life.

  1. 5:55  I suppose that "rendering" is in paint on canvas or board – and not edible – now if it were sculpted out of cat food –

KPF – Hmmm.  Fascinating.  Are they all the same kind of sphincter?  Because, you know, there are different kinds.  (Incidentally, JFK was only 43, but he did have Addison's Disease.  Obama or even Jimmy Carter mught have been a better example of someone healthy.  Not W, though.  Alcoholism can be quite debilitating.)

NewYorker – No!  No!  Not McCain again!  Aaaargh!

DKos – Yeah, there sure isn't any that you'd notice here on earth.  Although occasionally there is something just as good – http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/08/31/1565439/-Mother-weeps-when-she-finds-her-son-did-not-have-to-sit-alone-at-lunch-on-this-one-day  Hanky alert, and if you read far enough into the comments, three-hanky alert.

Cartoon – Umm – too true to be funny.

  2. FoD: 'A big beautiful wall – so he can never get in!' LOL.

NYer: They don't want him either, ha, ha! However…they do have DT piñatas for sale, which is very popular, I hear. Keep 'em comin', Andy.

DK: Wouldn't that be fantastic? I too, also believe that we are not the only ones here in this galaxy, or beyond the Milky Way. Great news!!

    Cartoon: Yep, pretty much. Sadly.

A cool morning/day? What's that? More rain forecasted here. Hope that you get all you chores done. Enjoy your evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. The NY: Dang, Andy has read my mind! If only…..

SETI may have found our sister planet! I would volunteer Rump Dump Drumpf to leave behind if we can find another planet to escape this planet's inevitable demise, if we don't change the thought of Climate Change!!!

  4. 4:09  Guess I need some practice.

  5. TomCat,

It looks like you are predicting my BIG Mouth Award in October (See #75).

  6. Good to see that with cooling down life slips back into a more routine and comfortable rhythm, TomCat. I hope you've seen the last of that heat for 2016 (it would be naive to expect the temperatures to remain low in the next few years ) After a nice cleansing shower, I'm sure you will feel much better and less tired.

KPDF: LOL That health statement by Drumpf's doctor sure has gone where no one had gone before, so it was very apt to have Brent Spiner play the expert on alien life.

TNY: Andy, I don't think Obama would do anything that was pleasing to hundreds of Republicans currently running for reelection. A week ago I also would have doubted that Mexico would take him off his hands so cheaply, but apparently their president is so dismally unpopular that he has to resort to inviting Drumpf, and Clinton, for a quick visit to get his own ratings up. Of course Drumpf was stupid enough to accept the invitation of his "friend" and giving Nieto the opportunity to look good next to a more detested man than himself. Now that's what I call a bargain.

DK: We'll probably never hear from this "signal" again as there probably will be another good explanation for it, but your remark:  "I hope it turns out to be real. I would be a real shame for a universe as large as ours to be completely devoid of intelligent life" is priceless. Kudos to you, TomCat, this brilliant observation made my day.

    Cartoon: True, Sad, but true.

  7. Hey, I am now officially a Canadian superhero and I am on the cover of Civil War II with Justin Trudeau.  You've wondered what I look like so here is the picture.  That's me at the top with the glissening smile and brown hairy body!

Justin Trudeau debuts on Marvel cover alongside Canadian superheroes

    Trudeau in comic book

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has officially entered the Marvel universe — and the boxing ring — as a newly minted comic cover star.

Trudeau appears on the variant cover of issue No. 5 of Marvel's "Civil War II: Choosing Sides" released Wednesday.

Marvel offered a sneak peek at the cover earlier this summer, which features Trudeau sitting, smiling and relaxed, in the ring wearing a Maple Leaf-emblazoned tank, black shorts and red boxing gloves.

Standing behind him are Puck, Sasquatch and Aurora, who are members of Canadian superhero squad Alpha Flight, while Iron Man is seen in the left corner with his arms crossed.

  8. Puzzle — 3:17  I'd like to see you eat that seahorse without feeling hungry afterwards Puddy Tat!

KP Daily Funnies — Too funny!  Mr Data does not know how to lie — Data has the data on Drumpf!

The New Yorker — Oh Andy, please say it is true!  Please say you're doing straight reporting again! . . . just this one time!

Daily Kos — Love the comments.  Here's a picture of the life form believed to be from HD 164595

    Trump_alien.jpg

Cartoon — Ain't that the truth!

It has been raining all day today.  Right now it is 17 C (62 F) which for me is heaven.  It should be like this through to Saturday.

  9. KP Daily Funnies: A well written script and excellently acted by Will Spiner in this meme of Drumpf's doctor's overenthusiastic letter of health. Funny! Must see and hear! (CC).

The New Yorker: Good one Andy. If only… sigh.

Kos; There is life "out there". They're waiting for us to "evolve"…

Cartoon: Yup. 1% are job creators but, only in other countries where labor is cheap and are throw-aways.
    .

  10. KP Funnies:  I saw an attempt to interview the "real" doctor, this could be fact.

The New Yorker:  Tell Andy that I am in favor of this if we can just get the Prez to go along.

DK:  Sooo, my son was right when he told me that Super man and Super Girl were real! He was ten at the time.  JOking aside, I think it would be wonderful to know if there are other inhabited planets, but hope if there are that they have evolved better than we have.

Cartoon:  Exporting jobs is how they remain the 1%.

I hope your cool down lasts.  We are supposed to have one tomorrow and Friday, then back up to the nineties.

  11. KP Funnies: I love it!

New Yorker: Elsewhere, yesterday, I suggested that perhaps the Mexicans could be encouraged to build a wall to keep his orange ass there.  But, I like the justice inherent in Obama having a hand in making this putz into an ex-pat, with, or without, a birth certificate!

DK: You are right about intelligent life, at least in terms of Homo Not-Sapiens!

  12. Thanks all!  Big Hugs!!  I'm pooped!!
