Portland continues under an excessive heat warning through the weekend.  My A/C kept it cooler last night, but as the temperature approaches 70° early in the morning, the humidity is 92%.  I’m getting very little sleep.  Tomorrow and Saturday will be the worst of the days.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today'[s took me 2:45 (average 4:24).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Fantasy Football Update:

Lefty Blog Friends players, our live draft is this Saturday at 1 PM PDT (2 PM MDT, 3 PM CDT, 4 PM EDT).  Feel free to contact me with questions.

Short Takes:

From KP Daily Funnies: Daily Show: Uncovering Discrimination in the Baltimore Police Department

Very little about this video is funny. That Rump Dump used a spiel to dog-whistle racist Republicans, under the guise of asking for Black support, is just… Republican!

From Daily Kos: Today Nate Silver on 538 wrote a piece called "Clinton’s Lead Is Clear And Steady"

Let’s not get complacent!

From NY Times: Donald J. Trump named as his new campaign chief on Wednesday a conservative media provocateur whose news organization regularly attacks the Republican Party establishment, savages Hillary Clinton and encourages Mr. Trump’s most pugilistic instincts.

Mr. Trump’s decision to make Stephen K. Bannon, chairman of the Breitbart News website, his campaign’s chief executive was a defiant rejection of efforts by longtime Republican hands to wean him from the bombast and racially charged speech that helped propel him to the nomination but now threaten his candidacy by alienating the moderate voters who typically decide the presidency

I have to wonder, is it possible for Rump Dump to make a worse choice than the head of Breitfart?

  1. 4:29  So attractive.  And BLUE.

KP – I've been reading about Baltimore PD.  Apparently it isn't as bad as you thought.  It's worse.

DKos – The more optimistic it looks, the harder we have to be working – to keep it.  Yes.  I'll let Lynn put "Vote Blue All the Way Down the Ticket" in large blue caps – because my computer won't.

NY Times – Is it possible for him to have made a worse choice?  Maybe not, since David Duke is now running for the Senate, so would turn him down.

Cartoon:  Typical Republican ignorance.  The Supreme Court ruled that immigration is a Federal function, so the states couldn't pick it up, as they were doing before the Bureau of Immigration.  (Also, since it no longer exists by that name, you caould say it is already closed down.)  But if the Federal goverment got completely out of the immigration business, there would be no restriction, bar, or barrier to immigration.  Anyone could come in any time, any way they wanted.  Yeah, like the Republicans would want that1!

  2. The "Mouth of the Rich" had taken it to a new level! Putting chairman of Breitbart News part of his"cabinet" is beyond the pale!!! And the other "appointment" he made was just as bad!

I saw the piece that The Daily Show did was one that I wish he had never had to do! It was terrible. Not the piece, but the contents of it. That is the first time I have seen Trevor not smile, at all, through as piece.

So sorry that you are having such a heat wave! Seems our weather and your weather has gotten mixed up! I'm having the lowest high temps, ever, I think! Our highs are in the mid-80's, which is no where near usual for us! Usually, the temps are in the 100's. Our highs are what our usual lows are at night! It has been a week since we had highs in the 90's to 100's! Wow! This global warming thing is really screwing things up, temp-wise!

Hate Silver has most of the map painted BLUE!!! Too bad that Oklahoma isn't at least a little purple!!! Sad to say, it probably will always be red, deep red! What with all the oil companies, it's no wonder!

  3. KP DF: Unbelievable. Just unbelievably horrible.

DK: Absolutely, 100%! in my group of friends and household! I love the color Blue!!

Cartoon: They'd like that, wouldn't they?

Sorry about your weather, and the high humidity. We are actually in a 'Flood Warning' and also a 'Burn Ban' effect till further notice here. I think that's a first here. Never heard of that. Hope that you have a good evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. KP Daily Funnies:  Our country is in turmoil, I can't remember this much divisiveness since the Viet Nam war, and I hold Trump responsible. Apparently,  the Baltimore Police Department is long over due for revision.

Daily Kos:  No matter what the polls show now, if we don't get out the Democrats to vote, Trump can still win.  Vote Blue!

NY Times:  The only way he could have made a poorer choice to run his campaign would have been for him to resurrect George Wallace.

Cartoon:  They would if they could, having conveniently forgotten that their ancestors were immigrants.

  5. Puzzle — 3:33  The cannons of that old fort, and I'm sure they're there out of sight, just sunk my sailboat!

KP Daily Funnies — I am sure it was noteworthy but I cannot view it here or on thecomedynetwork.ca.  It has not been released for showing in my country.

Daily Kos — Harry shows it straight — keep working it, don't stop, and don't get cocky or complacent!

    Get out the vote!

Vote blue all down the ticket!

NY Times — Limbarf?  They are both sewer dwellers!

Cartoon — What a difference  between our two countries!  In the US, you have a presidential candidate who is a xenophobe and wants to build walls and totally exclude whole groups of people from entering the US.  In Canada, according to a CBC story, our Minister of Immigration wants to substantially increase immigration!  That uptick in immigrants does NOT include Republicans!

The weather here was hot again too, with the next 2 days even worse.  It managed 32 C (90 F) but the humidity was only 32% which made things more tolerable, but I still stayed quiet.  The temperature is now 27 C (81 F) but the humidity is 45%.  I can really feel the higher humidity in my breathing — not as easy.  Overnight, the humidity will go way up as the temperature drops — low 17 C (63 F) with 70% humidity.

  6. This much heat combined with the extreme humidity is what the tropics are all about, but Portland, Oregon? I feel very sorry for you, TomCat, and all Americans who have to suffer these weather conditions. And for so long too. The heat/humidity theme reminded me of a joke I read in the MAD about that many years ago, but I couldn't find it. But there are others that will do just fine. Or perhaps this will cheer you up a bit: " Rumor has it that the new Miami baseball team will be called "Humidity" so that fans in Florida will be able to say, "Its not the Heat that's so bad, its the Humidity."

KPDF: Darn, another video I can't view Down Under.

DK: Very good advice, TomCat. At this point in time there's absolutely nothing to be complacent about. These surveys have little to do with whether and how people will actually vote in November, but they're perfect material to get Drumpf riled up even further. 😛

NYT: From a Democratic Party perspective Drumpf couldn't have made a better choice than Stephen Bannon, I think. This Breitbarter is going to push Drumpf beyond his limits and have him explode before November. And Drumpf probably thinks that having people – well at least some Republicans – upset with his choice, he's taken their attention away from Manafort's dealings with Ukraine ex-presidents and current Russian presidents (on his behalf?). And if the media doesn't stay sharp, that's exactly what's going to happen. Until the next discovery.

Cartoon: For some it already has.

  7. Thanks all!!  Hot hugs!!
