Jul 292016

It’s another hot muggy day with the high forecast in the 90°s.  I’m running late, because I could not sleep last night, as it was too muggy.  Once I finally did fall asleep, I overslept this morning and got a late start.  I got all the Canadian Holidays from my Outlook calendar by deleting them one at a time, through 2026.  Next July 1, I’m going to het a BIG bowl of chili and point my butt North.  It’s only 313 miles to Vancouver.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:49 (average 4:29).  To do it, click here. How did you do?

From Politico: Donald Trump said Wednesday that, if he is elected president, he would consider recognizing Crimea as Russian territory and lifting the sanctions against Russia.

At a wide-ranging news conference, Trump said he “would be looking into that” when asked about his stance on Crimea and Russia. The Crimean Peninsula has been part of Ukraine for decades, but Russian President Vladimir Putin annexed the territory in March 2014 after a popular revolt toppled Kiev’s pro-Russian government.

This is documentation of a claim I made in an earlier comment. No matter how little you may like Clinton’s foreign policy, which appears to be an extension of Obama’s (a major improvement over the Bush Reich), please don’t try to tell me that Trump’s is better.

From I Side With: Answer the following questions to see which 2016 Presidential candidate you side with.

Click through to take the test yourself,  Here are my results.

Hillary Clinton 97%
Jill Stein 97%
Rump Dump Trump 4%

The key thing here is how much alike Hillary and Jill are. Back when Bernie was still included, I got 100% Bernie. Considering how alike the three are to call Clinton the lesser evil is irrational.

From NY Times: After a string of high-profile defeats, the prosecutors who were unable to win convictions of police officers in the death of Freddie Gray defended themselves on Thursday and sharply accused the city’s Police Department of undermining them.

At a news conference the day after their boss, Marilyn J. Mosby, the state’s attorney for Baltimore, announced she was dropping charges against the three officers who still awaited trial, the lead prosecutors — both seasoned lawyers — said the police had failed to serve search warrants for the officers’ personal cellphones. The lawyers also echoed a charge made in court that a detective assigned to the case was sabotaging it.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it. As much as I appreciate and support the service the majority of police officers and condemn violence committed against police officers, the element of police culture that demands that good officers protect criminals in their midst from accountability must be ended. Every community needs a civilian review board with proportional community representation and teeth.

  1. 4:27 (4:48 when I did it – it must be new.  Yay!)  I'm not savvy enough to know whether they are safe to eat.

Politico – There have got to be hindreds, thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of Russians and Ukrainians turning in their graves over this.  Right now all I can think of is Tschaikowsky and Krushchev.

I Side With – Jill Stein 94%, Hillary Clinton 92% on a wider range of issues, Donald Trump 10%.  Full disclosure:  I answered EVERY question (all the dropdowns), many with "Other stance," which I am sure skewsthe resuts – espicially if I write my own.  Still very high and very close.  BTW, UltraViolet has a new site up which is at the very least interesting – http://wtfhashillarydone.com/

NY Times – It did occur to me, even if one were able to get them to a jury trial with all the evicdnce, how do we prevent the jurors being afraid of retribution?  I believe there was one jury trial on the Freddie Gray case, and the jury was hung.  Which suggests the further questyion, how can we effectively protect a civilian review board?  Not saying we shouldn't have them – indeed, we should.  But the octopus seems to keep getting bigger and growing more tentacles by the minute.

I added this to yesterday, but want to repeat – OK, this morning this Christian veteran is in tears over Khizr Khan's and Dr. Barber's speeches.  Both available on Daily Kos (For Dr. Barber you have to scroll down to comments).

    YouTube – Still watching –

Cartoon – How did you get that photo out of China???!!?

  2. Thanks for the cartoon! Nice to see that Rump Dump is making jobs- OVERSEAS!!!

  3. the amazing think about the  dumpster is the 2 countries he complains about the most china and mexico  are where his clothing lines are made.he better be careful talking  about russia or putin won't hack those emails for him. he is a very very bad joke. go hillary. shame about bernie

  4. Politico: Does he even know what he's talking about??

I Side with: Jill Stein 95%, HRC: 92%, DT: 7%. Good survey.

NYT:  So those cops got away with murder. How sad.

YT: Me too, still watching, love Bill.

    Cartoon: Yep, for sure!!

Hope you get some rest, enjoy your evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  5. You need a bigger AC?

    • Jerry, 8,000 is the largestallowed.  my 10,000 was grandfathered in, because I got it, before the rule existed.  Floor units are just less efficient.

  6. Is your air conditioner out of order?  I know you had to switch away from the wondow ac, sorry you cannot sleep.

Politico:  This is one of many issues that I have with Trump.  He has no clue about Ukraine or Crimea.  I think he just likes the fact that Putin can issue an order and it happens.

I Side With:  My ideology is left wing.  No surprise there.  Clinton-96%, Stein 94%, Johnson-58%, and to my surprise, Trump-7%.  I did not expect to side with anything he was for.

NY Times:  Something smells bad about this.  Freddie Gray died while in police custody.  Evidence shows they showed no concern for his health and safety while he was under their control.  If nothing else, they should have been found guilty of Manslaughter.  I agree with you, the good police officers should quit protecting those who are evil.

Youtube:  I couldn't get it to play.

Cartoon:  and that will be what happens here if Trump is elected.

  7. You're lucky you've got a warning ahead of time so you could take cover, Sasquatch. But have mercy on all those innocents all the way up to Vancouver, TomCat. They're not to blame for those muggy nights and MS calendar quirks!

Politico: If you feel bad about a possible future president of America who apparently is already in the pocket of Putin, just think of how Ukrainians, the Poles and those living in the Baltic states, who have specifically asked for more UN peace-keepers stationed at their borders to safeguard them from further Russian aggression, feel. And how about the Dutch who have just commemorated the death of 200 people on second anniversary of the plane shot down over Ukraine by "rebels" who with hi-tech weaponry they were supplied with by the Russians. What Drumpf did with this statement boils down to giving the UN and Europe the finger and stabbing his allies in the back.

NYT: A police department undermining, even sabotaging, investigations into high-profile cases of the killing of black citizens by police officers is also undermining any trust left in the police nation wide. To say it very bluntly: those who are trying to cover their own asses and those of the cops under investigation are laying the lives of all good cops across the country on the line.

YouTube: Darn, Bill Maher's video is not available in my country according to YouTube.

Cartoon: Oh yeah, Drumpf is the greatest…hypocrite!

  8. Hey, TC, if you point ypur butt north, you will either have to walk backwards, or be going south, in which case Vancouver is all the way around the world!

NYT: The Freddie Gray situation is deplorable, and just what BLM is about!

Politico: I have stopped paying any attention to Rumpy's blathering, but have signed petitions caling for him to have no access to gov't briefings.  I am hoping, wishing, that he, and the GOPigs suffer a defeat of monumental proportions, and both go to hell!

I did an "I side with" last year, or early this one, and came up way in accord with the progressive side, maybe some little bit with Herr Rump.

  9. OKay, "I Side With" took me to 97% Hillary, 96% Jill, 60% Johnson (surprise), 7% Rump-a-dump.
