The doctor told me that I don’t have arthritis, bit that I do have tendonitis in my left hand.  He have me a cortisone shot (quite painful) and declared me fixed.  I’m skeptical.  I’m also quite pooped.  This is today’s only article.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:30 (average 8:31).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From HRC: Get The Facts about Donald Trump

Barf Bag Alert!

If you’re gay, vote blue! If not, vote blue!

From Daily Kos: Now then, let’s see how Conservapedia takes that ignorant liberal, Albert Einstein down a few pegs………..

Under the heading E=mc², we find the following:

E=mc² is Einstein’s famous formula which asserts that the energy (E) which makes up the matter in any body is equal to the square of the speed of light (c²) times the mass (m) of that body. It is a statement that purports to relate all matter to energy. In fact, no theory has successfully unified the laws governing mass (i.e., gravity) with the laws governing light (i.e., electromagnetism), and numerous attempts to derive E=mc² in general from first principles have failed. Political pressure, however, has since made it impossible for anyone pursuing an academic career in science to even question the validity of this nonsensical equation. Simply put, E=mc² is liberal claptrap.

Huh?!!? Here’s a rule as good as E=MC2: Thou shalt not commit TEAbuggery!!

From NY Times: “Officer down!” an officer screamed frantically into his police radio Sunday morning in Baton Rouge, La. “Shots fired! Officer down!”

One of the most dreaded calls in policing triggered a surge of officers to the city’s Airline Highway, not far from Police Headquarters, an agonizing replay of the distress calls 10 days earlier that prompted the Dallas police to scramble to the aid of their fallen colleagues.

The twin attacks — three officers dead Sunday in Baton Rouge, five killed on July 7 in Dallas, along with at least 12 injured over all — have set off a period of fear, anguish and confusion among the nation’s 900,000 state and local law enforcement officers. Even the most hardened veterans call this one of the most charged moments of policing they have experienced.

Don’t mistake what I’m saying. Gunning down cops in cold blood is evil. There is no excuse or justification for it. That said, this will happen again and again, as long as good cops cover up the murders committed by racist bad cops. Good cops everywhere and all who love them are in my thoughts and prayers.

Convention Observation:

The Repuglicans have already violated their own rules.

  1. 5:25 (8:31)  Either it's new or the page kept the 67-piece average time when I chnged the cut.  Or both.  Well, I guess not, if you saw the same average I did.

I'm skeptical too.  I would believe that you don't have rheumatoid arthritis.  But osteoarthritis is so common at our age that "tendonitis" raises my eyebrow.  I'm also not crazy about cortisone.  (Although "Politics Plus on Steroids" might be – um, interesting.)  I hope Nameless is able to weigh in before blowing town.

DKos – Conservtive Fantasyland gives Disney a bad name.

NYTimes – Gunning down cops is so harmful, not just to cops, not just to minorities, but to the entire nation, since everyone will suffer if (did I say if?  Sorry, I meant when) police forces all over succeed in becoming even more militarized because of it.  No sane human would do it.  Of course, no sane human is doing it.  Whether permanently or temporarily, anyone gunning for police is not sane.

CO – Don't Republicans break their own rules about as often as they breathe?

Cartoon – Yup.  Nailed it again.

    • Well, I won't be leaving town this week.  Early this morning (3:00 AM to be precise) I developed diarrhea.  After a dozen porcelain receptacle trips in less than 12 hours, I quit counting.  (I hope that’s not too graphic or TMI).

Then later this afternoon I developed marked myalgia, malaise, sore eyes (always a good sign of a virus) and a fever (100.2 with a mercury thermometer – which are now verboten).

Not only do I NOT feel like traveling 400 miles, more importantly I don’t want to take a chance sharing what I got w/ Mom or her friends at the Assisted Living Center.  So I’m postponing it since there was nothing critical – just routine.

I really don’t have a thought WRT “Tendonitis” other than it’s certainly in differential.

What I would want to know is who did you see: Rheumatologist?  Orthopedist?  PCP?

And: Were there X-rays?  Blood work?  Other ancillary studies?

Seems like a pretty quick diagnosis, especially if there were no advance studies available to whomever you saw – so I doubt it was a rheumatologist, they’re pretty thorough.

I’ve never had, nor given, a cortisone injection – so no reference point.

      • Oh, Nameless, you have ALL my sympathy.  "Republicosis" is THE WORST.  I would FAR rather have "Republicitis" cramping (which I hardly notice even now, becaus the feminine cramps I used to get were so much worse.  Thank Cat that's over.  Which is probably also TMI.)   You are still competent to ask good questions certainly (and I know you can be trusted to use a mercury thermometer LOL)  I have never had cortisone but my mother-in-law did, and while it worked, she did not like the side effects, so she only had it very sparingly.  One of her sons, now, alas, deceased, was a doctor. But I digress.  Yes, good questions.

      • So sorry you got Republicosis, hope you feel better soon.

      • So sorry to hear about your bad case of Republicosis, Nameless. I hope it wont last as long as that case in Cleveland and you recover quickly. Plenty of fluids, keep your salt and mineral levels in balance and all that. But why am I telling this to a doctor? 🙂

      • Poor Nameless!!  Republicosis is a terrible malady!!

        Get well soon.

  2. DK: Everyone learned this formula in school, W.T.H?? How absurd!!

NYT: I agree, this will not stop until we all come together in unity.

    CO: I can only imagine….

Cartoon: Well, of course, they wouldn't have it any other way!

Sorry to read about your tendonitis, I understand your skepticism. Shots (especially) in your hand/wrist area can be quite painful. Get some much needed rest, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. There was a gun fight that the officers intervened in–very different from Dallas.  Should not treat the two as similar events.

The worst I've heard is that people needed another shot after about 6 weeks–rarely need more than three to become symptom free and make the inflammation history.

  4. I cannot stomach yet ANOTHER Rump Dump Drumpf video! I have decided that I will NOT subject myself to any more of his misogynistic, hateful and worthless speeches in my life! Sorry TC. I just can't give him any of MY clicks.

D Kos: They will not let the scientists ever win! They say something, it is the law of the land! ANY thing, no matter how bizarre, is how they roll!

I hope the shot you got is better for you than they are for me! Allergic to the point of shock, if I ever get one , even by accident, is a trip to the hospital, star. But if you can take them, I hope they make the world of difference they used to make for me! Good luck, dude!

  5. I had "trigger finger" about 20 years ago, the tendons were bunched up in my thumb and fore finger on the right hand, caused by constant writing.  I took statements all day, in long hand.   This could be your problem if it is the hand you use most.  I got cortisone shots between the fingers and thumb, and it did indeed hurt.  But, it helped.  I eventually had surgery which was easier than the shots. I have had no problems since the surgery.

HRC:  The fact is he is wrong for this country, or any other.  Unless you have a country that is looking for a despot to rule.

Daily Kos:  Good grief.  Is ignorant really spelled conservative?

NY Times:  The last cop tried for the death of Freddie Gray was found not guilty today.  No wonder so many blacks are angry, they have a right to be.  However, killing is never the solution.  Not all police are corrupt, most are not.  We all need to take part in our communities and vote for people who won't be part of a corrupt system.

Convention:  Didn't watch, won't watch.  My brain is on overload from just hearing some of their ads.

    Cartoon:  They are on track!

  6. Puzzle — 3:45  I guess it is fricassée of Wirehaired Pointing Griffon for dinner for you!  Watch out for those stiff bristle-like hairs.

HRC — Trump is no friend to anyone but himself! . . . and I'm not even sure of that.

Daily Kos — Republicans and science is an oxymoron!  Republicans are nothing more than conservative claptrap!

NY Times — "…this will happen again and again, as long as good cops cover up the murders committed by racist bad cops." — IMO, this will also continue as long as there are no reasonable gun control laws in place.  It is strange how the deaths of children don't motivate enough people to push for gun control.  The US seems to have a "wild west" attitude which is totally out of tune with today's culture.

Cartoon — The Republican screed! . . . and it gets said in so many ways, but they all mean the same.

Tendonitis sucks!  I have osteoarthritis and tendonitis in both knees and both feet, and osteoarthritis in my hands.  Fortunately the hands only flare up from time to time, but the feet and knees, that is a different matter requiring physio.  I feel for you.

  7. HRC = Hillary Rodham Clinton only to find out that HRC also stands for Human Rights Campaign. The video itself was excellent ad by HRC in showing what Drumpf really is and what he stands for. "Get The Facts on Donald Trump" The only "barf" was just seeing him visually and mouthing off. lol. Can't stomach him anymore.

KOS: Conservapedia is pure TEAbuggery. Certainly not worth using at all.

NY Times: The shootings, on both sides, will only get worst than better, unfortunately. Racism needs to fall by the wayside like the dinosaurs. New psychological tests are needed to weed out racism and other factors. Hiring seems to be in the area of "good ole boys" factor network.

The Baton Rouge shooting was different from the Dallas shooting. The police got caught in an intervention between two separate individuals shooting at each other near a local police station in an open area.

If I didn't know any better, I would have to say that the police departments have been infiltrated by racists, bigots, the KKK, White Supremacists. When a colored person is killed by the police, they hide behind "I feared for my life" phrase and their police unions.

The whole GOP Convention is just one gigantic mash of "Republicosis". I'm listening and watching the GOP Convention via Rachel Maddow's Show, excerpts. Already there are lies, Melania Trump's plagiarism, threats against non-drumpf delegates, and whatever else. Sounds like a par course for the Drumpf people. Lots of empty seats at the convention areas. No reports on the "ok corral".

I do have a question: Why is the US government paying $50 million dollars to help police the GOP Convention. As far as I know, the GOP is NOT part of the federal government. Shouldn't the GOP pay for their own expenses for police and military presence and equipment…
    .

  8. After the scan of your hands doctors were already doubtful your pain was caused by arthritis, TomCat, but it sounds like you expected more than being send home "fixed" after a painful shot in your left hand. I do hope the diagnosis is correct, though, and that the shot will give you the pain relief you need and will do so soon.

HRC: Are you ready to make America great again? If you don't want Drumpf's definition of "great" and go forwards instead of back. VOTE BLUE.

DK: Conservapedia? Biblical Scientific Foreknowledge? E=mc² is liberal claptrap. ? What the Frack? I was tempted to go and have a look at this site but Kos author AlyoshaKaramazov warned "Im not going to link to the site, because they are counting hits, and are apparently very proud of the high number they've gotten (because we all know that popularity = accuracy, especially on the interwebs)." It's also a lot better for my blood pressure if I don't go there.

NYT: Indiscriminately killing members of a group as retribution for the terrible deeds of some of that group is always wrong and only will make matters worse. But continuing to ignore, excuse, cover up or let cops get away with racist killings is very wrong too and also will make matters worse. The two issues at the root of this growing problem, increasing racism and lack of gun control in American society, need to be a addressed first before issues deriving from these two can be tackled with a any chance of success.

Convention Observation: Rules? What rules? The all went out the window when Obama became president.

    Cartoon: 🙁  🙁

  9. Thanks all!  Hugs!!

To try to answer everyone's questions, I think the doct5or is a Rheumkatologist, but I'm not sure.  It's Provicence Arthritis Clinic.  I had X-Rays of both hands and an MRI of the left.  Apparantly the results were negative.  So far the shot has not helped my left hand, and I don't see mhow it can provide relief to my right hand, or explain why that finger is not the only pain site.  That's why I'm so skeptical.

  10. DK: how about "Stupid is as stupid does!?"  Mass is NOT equivalent to gravity…PERIOD!  Alfred never said it was, only a dumbass Conservapedia writer might!  How fucking stupid are these people??????  Agenda drives everything, facts, as their Saint Ronald said, are "just annoyances!"  An object's mass exerts a certain amount of "bend" if you will, on the fabric of spacetime, minimal for most things in the world (we'll get to that later) large for really massive objects, like moons, planets, etc. that warp, actually, is what determines gravity.  If you stand on a trampoline your mass (we think of it as weight) will warp the fabric of the trampoline.  If you have someone put a marble at the edge of the warp, it will fall, or spiral, down to your feet,at the bottom of the warp.  This is the extent of the effect of most people's mass.  Then there are the conservatives, and those of them that write for Conservapedia.  Their stupidity warps spacetime around them to such a huge extent that they go time waripng to the 3rd century, having, miraculously, found the secret of quantum physical worm holes, and wind up with their craniums up their worm holes!

Lona, counting hits ought not equal popularity, because there are people like you who go WTF is this?  Nonetheless, I understand how it works.

  11. TomCat: Cortisone can work wonders, not that it necessarily does all the time, but I've had two occassions to need it, and it worked wonderfully, and we are talking years, a decade, or more.  In other words "fixed!"  I'm gald that it is not arthritis.

NY T: I agree with what you said about the issue. Nevertheless, "thoughts and prayers" here are as useless as those offered by the top GOPigs every time a cop murders someone!

CO: Republicans, and especially their Herr Rumpelthinskin, only want rules for EVERYBODY ELSE!  Oh, and what are the rules about plagarism???

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
