Amid news that most of the usual cast of backers will not be attending The Republican Convention in Cleveland this year, one organization should be thrilled.  Since the area of the Convention has been declared an open carry zone. the NRA must be positively salivating at the notion of all those armed Republican Ammosexuals.

Cleveland officials said Wednesday that protestors and others congregating outside the GOP convention next week will be permitted to carry guns in keeping with Ohio’s open carry law, according to The Wall Street Journal [Murdoch delinked].

Mayor Frank G. Jackson and Police Chief Calvin Williams told reporters that they are bound by Ohio’s gun laws to allow people be armed, though they both didn’t sound too thrilled about it.

“Our intent is to follow the law. And if the law says you can have open carry, that’s what it says. Whether I agree with it or not is another issue,” Jackson said, according to the Journal…

Perhaps 100 rounds should be required for admission.  To be fair, I recognize that the Republican echo chamber is making a huge stink over the New Black Panther Party are holding a massive armed rally.  I wonder if just one plan to attend or both of them are coming.

  1. TPM: Gee, open-carry law in Ohio. Can't wait for the armed Republican Ammosexuals, many other groups along with the anti-government militia group Oath Keepers and the New Black Panther Party to begin their fun and games at RNC. Police will allow  protesters to open carry guns outside GOP Convention but not inside the convention area.

Businesses located in and around the convention center will either close or have moved their operations outside of the convention areas. Other stores, businesses  which will be open will keep one eye warily watching the crowds.

Cartoon: Yup, that is the NRA way. #All Guns Matter! There is an ad in the TPM stating: CONCEALED CARRY is a RIGHT, DEFEND IT, JOIN NRA.

  2. This should be a cluster-effin week! Can't wait to see it in Larry Wilmore!

  3. What a pity I am allergic to popcorn.  But – didn't I read that the Secret Service had something to say about this?  And wouldn't Federal law trump (if you'll pardon my language) state law in a situation like this?  That ought to be an interesting discussion too.

  4. Yea, there's gonna be party in the town tonight!!! NOT!

  5. If this isn't one of my senior moments, I think I remembered there was a petition to be able to open carry at the convention signed by over 50,000 ammosexuals, but that was denied and put in the hands of the Secret Service. But that was restricted to the inside of the convention center and not outside of it, so apparently the mayor and the police chief have decided to uphold the law and let protesters and Republicans sort it out between themselves. I just wonder if Cleveland authorities are sending in their police and swat teams to maintain law and order. If they do, they better expect a lot of people calling in sick with Zirka virus fever.

I hope these are just scare tactics to intimidate protesters and that at least they have the good sense to stay away. Because no matter how deprived and sick Drumpf and his bunch are, it's not worth protesting and losing their lives over at that convention. The left doesn't need martyrs, they need voters.

Brilliant cartoon, TomCat. When push comes to shove, ammosexuals will learn that in reality the NRA means ALL Guns Matter, but also ONLY Guns Matter too.

  6. Yeah, guns are fine …

  7. I hope it doesn't rain there, almost all umbrellas have a metal tip.  Apparently, a shower of bullets is hardly worth worrying about.

  10. The fun and games will commence on Wednesday, and even Woden, for whom Wednesday is named, will stay away!  No fool, is he.
