Yesterday my Ocular Oncologist's lead technician and head nurse both called in sick.  Therefore, I did not get my appointment until after my ride home was scheduled and did not get home from my 11:00 AM appointment until after 4:00 PM.  The good news is that the eye is healing well.  There was no apparent shrinking of the tumor, but none is expected yet.  We'll know if it was successful in six months.  The bad news is that there is very little we can do to correct my horrible vision until after my six month evaluation,  I'm 20/30+ in my left eye and 20/300 in my right.  In addition I have cataracts in both an d gave pronounced double vision  I'm getting a late start, because I tried to nap after breakfast.  Store to Door is taking this week off, so I'm got my grocery delivery from Safeway.com.  I got everything put away.  I'm very pooped.  Tomorrow I have PT with Courtney.  I'm still on light duty, but I trust she'll find some minor tortures.  Please expect no more than a personal update tomorrow.  For the record, I have nothing to cover the murder of two more innocent black men by police.  First, everything I would say is being said already.  Second, I just can't wrap myself around how many there have been without screaming.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today's took me 3:02 (average 4:44).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Don Christy is a self-described “patriot” and took it upon himself to join the 4th of July parade of vehicles in the Sheridan, Indiana. Wearing an orange prison jumpsuit and a blonde wig, Christy shocked parade-goers with a doll meant to look like President Obama in a toilet with the words “Lying-African” underneath. From the IndyStar:

"I'm not a Democrat. I'm not a Republican," Christy said. "I'm a patriot."

Christy said he is tired of political correctness and was just trying to be funny. The display was not intended to be racist, he said. Christy agreed that others have a right to be offended, just as he has the right to express his views.

"I apologize to anyone I offended, which would be a total liberal. I have my right to say things," Christy said. "Isn't that what the Fourth of July's about? Freedom.”

As noted by the large Trump signs on top of the golf car, Christy is a big fan of the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. He’s just tired of all this gosh-darned political correctness these days!

Bull!!  If this Racist Republican isn't one, then why is he goose stepping with the presumptive rectum of the Republican Party?

From NY Times: On July 28, 2002, roughly eight months before the American-led invasion of Iraq, Prime Minister Tony Blair of Britain sent President George W. Bush a personal note that alarmed some of Mr. Blair’s top national security aides — and was greeted with relief in Washington.

“I will be with you, whatever,” Mr. Blair wrote, in what appeared to be a blanket promise of British support if the United States went to war to topple Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi leader. Getting rid of Mr. Hussein was “the right thing to do,” Mr. Blair wrote, predicting that “his departure would free up the region.”

Fourteen years later, Mr. Blair’s pledge was revealed publicly on Wednesday as part of a voluminous, seven-year official investigation into how and why Britain went to war in Iraq.

The main conclusions in the report, by the independent Iraq Inquiry Committee, were familiar: that Britain, like the United States, used flawed intelligence to justify the invasion, that Iraq posed no immediate national security threat, that the allies acted militarily before all diplomatic options had been exhausted and that there was a lack of planning for what would happen once Mr. Hussein was removed.

There was a reason we called Blair "Bush's poodle". Both and more should be imprisoned for life.

From Alternet: Longtime Fox News host Gretchen Carlson shocked the media world on Wednesday by filing a sexual harassment lawsuit against her former boss, CEO Roger Ailes.

In her suit against Ailes, she also alleged that she faced a hostile work environment from many of her male colleagues including former Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy. Looking back on some choice clips of Carlson, we can see signs that she was sending out secret cries for help for years.

Barf Bag Alert!!

I can't help but believe that, after all the years of legs, cleavage, and batting her eyes like an obedient Republican bimbo,  she had to know why she was hired. I'm not defending Faux Noise sexism.  I abhor it, but she was clearly prostituting herself on camera for so long, that to cry foul at this point is hypocritical.

  1. 4:39 (4:44)  Gotta be pasta hiding in there somewhere.

What mixed news in the short run.  We can hope the long run will see some improvement. Heaven knows you will continue to be on the receiving end of many, many prayers.  As to the murders in LA and MN, as you say, everything one could say has been said – and said – and said again.  I did shortcut this for reference when I get a little out of the shock:  http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/7/7/1545947/-Wake-up-fellow-white-people-Time-to-get-to-work

DKos – Well,, it goes without saying that whatever he is, he isn't a patriot.  But I'm saying it anyway.

NY Times – Of course, as a US resident, I am gratified that the release of these papers is so implicating to Georgie-boy.  Certainly Blair shocked me at the time.

AlterNet – Well, there is such a thing as a conversion.  I don't deny she knew why she was hired, but I think she may well have just come to a point where she could not stomach it any longer.  And then, there are other women to think of.  I think I read ten had come forward, but that figure may already be out of date.

Cartoon – My gosh!  Is there a story behind the photo?

Off topic – The FULL Dem platform committee meets this weekend in Orlando, and Progressive Democrats of America are asking people to email (or tweet or facebook, which I can't) the reps from their state and ask them to push Medicare for All.  There are no pre-written messages, there is no petition, you have to write your own, but nothing says you cant send the same thing to all of them.  To find out who they are and how to contact them, go to
https://www.healthcare-now.org/wp-content/plugins/civicrm/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=92432&qid=3694738 and use the password "DNC" (in caps, but without the commas).  Normally the part after the question mark is not needed, but I checked it, and this time it is needed (I had to reconstruct it).  Anyway, You can click on your state to find your reps, or just scroll down.  Be nice.  (I already got one answer and it was positive.)

Really, REALLY off topic – On this date in 1928 the first sliced bread was sold, described as being the best thing since wrapped bread.

  2. DK: Well, there ya go. I am quite certain that some folks find this normal, and would find a rallying cry about this in a parade. Ugh!The racists are coming out of the closet!! and it's scary!!

AN: Good for her. Yes, I think the number is at 10 now, but more will probably come forward.

    Cartoon: LOL !!!

Continued prayers for you, and that your eye is mending well. You've had a busy day, get some rest and relaxation in for your evening. I can't believe the deaths of two more men tragically dying at the hands of the police. This is a national problem and must be addressed quickly.

    Thanks, Tom, take care.

  3. 3:57  I guess I was leaning the wrong way.

  4. I hate hearing anyone blaming victims for their treatment.

  5. It is good news that your eye is healing well, and I know it will be a long six months, but you will beat this.

Daily Kos:  Don Christy isn't a patriot, he is an exhibitionist, who wants attention.  He probably could use a psychiatrist, too.

NY Times:  I agree, TC, both Bush and Blair should be in prison for what they did.  Now that England has publicized it, Blair will be in trouble. I doubt Bush ever will, too many sheeple will follow the Republican creed, "make war, not love".

Alternet:  I have no tears for Gretchen, either, but am smugly grinning that she filed the suit.  It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

    Cartoon: Brilliant.

  6. Puzzle — 3:22  This is the Leaning Tower of Pisa . . . not Pizza!  Nothing here to eat Puddy Tat!

Daily Kos — A patriot?  He's no patriot!  He's an asshole, just like the presumptive rectum of the Republican Party!

NY Times — Seven years, 2.7 million words and a lot of flack for Blair that should rub off on Bush et cie.  Will Republicans ever open a Congressional investigation into Bush and the war in Iraq?  Oh I forgot . . . they only go after Democrats like Hillary Clinton and Benghazi!  Blair, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and others should be tried at the ICC in The Hague. I remember the considerable heat that Canada's Prime Minister Jean Chrétien took from the US and Britain for not joining the assault on Iraq.  I agreed with Chrétien then and am very proud that Chrétien stood strong!

Alternet — I read this earlier when I was finishing up Squatch's Open Thread 07/07/2016.  Faux's idiots like Steve Doocy, Brian Kilmeade and others should be made to pay for their sexist attitudes.  And while I agree that Carlson put up with their harassment for too many years, she was likely afraid that complaining would negatively affect her career.  I have personally run into this although not because my good looks.

Cartoon —  I hope the makers of the tea bags sues her insaniTEA riddled brain for defaming the bags!

I am very happy that the results of the surgery were so positive, but it will be a long 6 months.  I have long term, long wicked candles lit for you.

  7. I'm sorry you'll have to wait another six months before you'll know if the radiation plate behind your eye has done its work and before you can get something done about your cataracts and/or the double vision, TomCat. However your eye is healing well, so the prognosis is good. You now have to take one day at the time.
You may not have anything on the murder of two innocent black men killed by cops, but I'm sure you'll have something on the now unfolding shoot-out in Dallas in which at least 5 cops were killed by sniper fire while they escorted an otherwise peaceful demonstration against these killings. As yet it's completely unclear if the attack, targeting police only, is at all related to the demonstration and the rise in police brutality against black people, but it's speculation galore, I expect.

DK: I'm getting sick and tired of all these Drumpf followers who hide behind patriotism, being " tired of all this gosh-darned political correctness these days" and use Freedom of Speech as an excuse to let their rabid racism fly.

NYT: The Chilcot report couldn't establish if the war on Iraq was illegal; it wasn't in its brief and it can only be established in a court of law. Nevertheless the families of Service men and women killed in the Iraq war and their attorneys are looking into persecuting Tony Blair for war crimes. I hope they do, especially since Tony's still defending his decision to follow Bush into battle as the right thing to do. He conveniently forgets to mention he made the decision without prior consent of his parliament, pushing it or rather bullying it into agreement after the fact.

Alternet: I fully concur with your remark, TomCat. Any sane woman could have known that she was only there as eye candy, much like the page three girls in Murdoch's English tabloids, and not to have an opinion. And Gretchen Calson apparently dutifully obliged for years; all for a very good salary, I imagine. Yes, the sexism is sick, and yes, sexual harassment is very wrong, but filing this lawsuit after playing her part and feeding this sexism on Faux News for so many years is very hypocritical indeed and most certainly will hurt Calson more than it will hurt her male colleagues or the network. I bet her male colleagues are snickering behind her back that she's only doing this because she's getting "to old for the job".

  8. Do Not forget Cheney, he who has been inditedfor crimes agaist humanity( by the International  criminal court in the Haque.

He is unable to cross any borders out of the USA.,and would be arrested, for his stance on torture. Look Out Drumph, you who believe that torture cures all!.My dream would be to see Donald and Dick, sharing a cell in a foreign jail.,for a very long time!

    jail

  9. Thanks all!  Pooped Hugs!!

  10. DK: "There was a reason we called Blair "Bush’s poodle". Both and more should be imprisoned for life."  Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gonzalez all ought to be brought up on charges, as well.

  11. Good news on the medical front!  Wonderful, just be patient with the healing process, please.

DK: Sadly, the bigots of America are getting the mesage, from Rumpy, that they can display their frigging idiocy in comfort…after all, that's what he is doing, and, in some sense, he's almost POTUS!

Alternet:  See my posting on this, from the 7th, also: http://www.care2.com/news/member/565542931/3997353  With some luck Ailes will feel the thrill (I'm only guessing) of a boot up his ass!  Maybe endless legal troubles, too!  Though ending in jail would be nice.

Shootings, and shootings, and shootings…WTF!!!!!?  ?
