I’m expecting Julie to arrive momentarily, but want to do as much as I can, as this is a very busy week.  She came, and brought sad (for me) news,  She has been having an online romance in WV and is moving there in early July.  So I nave begun the search for another caregiver.  I will consider myself blessed if I cab find one half as caring as she is.  I trust we will stay in touch.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 6:27 (average 8:57).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: In the course of delivering the commencement address at Stanford University, Ken Burns did an epic takedown of The Donald.  In addition to deriding him for his lack of experience, his bombast, and his lies, he also called his campaign a “political Ponzi scheme” and implored “those ‘Vichy Republicans’ who have endorsed him to please, please reconsider”.

What can I say? He’s absolutely correct, except that trump would not be where he is if Burns’ complaints were not applicable to the Republican Party in general.

The primaries are over. The winner, sadly, is beyond refute.

From Alternet: California’s counties process ballots in waves, by category: those that arrive before election day; those cast on election day (including provisional ballots given to people whose names were not on polling place lists); and those that arrive in the mail afterward. Thus, in the days that followed last Tuesday’s primary, the total number of ballots processed—out of 9.2 million cast statewide—has been steadily increasing, even though 2.3 million remain unprocessed… [emphasis added]

Rather than some draconian conspiracy to cheat Bernie, the still uncounted ballots are uncounted because of when they were submitted, not because they were provisional. The article goes on to say that it will almost definitely not give Bernie a win in CA, Even it it did, it would not affect the overall delegate count enough to matter.

  1. 8:30   Whew!  Don't try to eat it, though.

Oh, very sad.  I wish the best for you, and also for her.  Like every other way of getting one started, online romances can have results anywhere from wonderful to tragic.  Hope hers will be wonderful.  (And tell her to be careful what water she drinks.)

DKos – Ken Burns – another national treasure.  Nice, BTW, to hear something good about Stanford right now.  Also BTW, Santa Clara County is getting ready to take another sex offense case to trial, and they have blicked Judge Persky from presiding.

AlterNet – Yeah, states are funny.  Mine will not accept postmarks.  It must be in their hands by 7:00 p.m. on election day or it doesn't count.  Frankly, with all mail balloting, I think that's fair, as the volume could become unmanageable.  I don't begrudge California accepting postmarks for absentees, though.

Cartoon – I wonder how she found one in southwestern Colorado.  That part of the state tends to be John Birchers.

  2. Even when received a week before the election, some counties do not count mail-in until after the in person ones in CA for those interested in accuracy although they are now permitted to count earlier.  The majority of those main-in ballots are hand delivered at the same time as in person ballots to the polls.

It has little to do with timing but more to do with the ballots that cannot be tampered with (no machines) get counted later.

Thanks for verifying that Clinton did not win the number of delegates required to become the nominee (2,383) via primaries and causes so that it definitionally remains a contested contest even though you chose to minimize people seeing that in how you chose to present the data.  And, as courts determine the truth on allegations of election fraud, and CA counties change direction changing who gets their delegates, those numbers are subject to change for the first time in the history of the Party.

    • Remember, the DNC itself says it is not accurate to include any superdelegates in counts presented in advance of the convention.  In research and statistics, this kind of inaccuracy violates codes of ethics and when done by a professional can lead to them losing their license to practice their profession because of how serious a breach of ethics it is considered.

      • Pledged Delegates

In order to win the nomination of the Democratic Party, a candidate will need 2383 delegates. There are 4051 Pledged delegates and 713 super delegates. As of June 10, the breakdown of pledged delegate is as follows:

        Clinton
        :
        2203 (54.40%)

        Sanders
        :
        1828 (45.60%)

Delegates to be allotted in upcoming elections
        :
        20

        • If you are gping to count Superdelegates as part of the delegates needed to imply that Hillary is not the presumptive nominee, you need to include Superdelagates in the counts.  If not we need to base it on pledged delegates alone, either apples and apples or oranges.

Using your numbers Hillary has a clear majority of plefged delegates

  3. DK: Well said, Mr. Burns! Kudos to you!

    RCP: Bummer.

Wow, that's a shame about your caregiver. I do hope that you do find another who has caring attributes as you describe with Julie. Wish her well, as I do you too, for your search. WV is beautiful country. Hope that you have a relaxing evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. DK: Ken Burns rocks!

RCP: Which elections are upcoming, JL? The conflicting counts are confused, or confusing.  MSN shows Hillary at 2219 without superdelegates.

How about Bullseye Barbie is a walking bag of barf!

  5. I am so sorry Julie is leaving you.  I hope all goes well for her.

Daily Kos:  "Edward R. Murrow would have exposed thisnaked emperor months ago"  This is absolute truth.  Burns knows Murrow was a true journalist who reported fact, not anything to raise the ratings.  The networks are all culpable and are a big reason Trump won the Republican primary.  We have very few true journalists anymore.

Real Clear Politics:  You conclusion is correct.  I will vote Blue, I just wish it would be for Bernie.

Alternet:  Since Hillary won the DC primary, too, there is little doubt to her remaining the nominee.

Cartoon:  Bullseye Barbie should be in prison for this.

  6. Puzzle — 5:28  All that glitters is not gold.

Daily Kos — Well said Ken Burns.  I particularly liked the following and found it very fitting.  "And asking this man to assume the highest office in the land would be like asking a newly minted car driver to fly a 747."

Real Clear Politics — Now to get down to unifying the Democratic vote to defeat the Republicans and fill the unemployment lines with right wing political nut jobs.

Alternet — It seems to me that even if Bernie wins the state with all ballots counted,  the delegate count won't substantially change such to making Bernie the presumptive Democratic nominee.  Sad but a reality.  It is time for all Democrats to get behind Clinton in unity to defeat the Republicans.  It is also time to get behind Bernie's platform as he tries to get it into the Party's platform.

Cartoon — Bloody Bullseye Barbie is a waste of space.  The sooner she is muzzled, the better for the country.

That's too bad that Julie has to leave.  I hope she can give you some suggestions for people that may be available to assist you.

  7. Sad news indeed, TomCat. Julie is the perfect care giver for you, hardworking and dependable; a delight to have around, with the Killer Dawg in tow. I'm sorry it didn't last very long and you have to go and look for a new care giver on top of all the other things you have on your plate the coming weeks. I hope Julie has made the right decision and I wish her well. Please thank her for me for taking such good care of you these past months.

DK: Ken Burns made a great and passionate commencement address at Stanford University which seemed to be appreciated by many, but sadly not by all, despite their intelligence and good education. I suppose that if tuition for this education was paid in full by Dad it would be harder to agree with Burns. If these young people are not convinced by such an eloquent and passionate speech against Drumpf, it's very unlikely that the "Vichy Republicans" will either. Too much at stake. For themselves, that is, not the country.

RCP: Yes, the primaries are over, and no matter how many more California's votes are counted, it will not change the fact that Hillary has won. Sad but true, and not by a landslide as most expected at the onset of the primaries, but nevertheless Bernie has lost. However his achievements have been spectacular, he's pushed the Democratic party (back) to the left and the first steps towards a progressive party have been made. And that process will continue unless disgruntled Democrats stay away from the polls or vote for another candidate than Hillary. I hope all Democrats honor Bernie and his well fought uphill battle and Vote Blue for You Know Who.

    Alternet: As I just said… 😉

  8. KOS: A beautifully well delivered, eloquent and passionate commencement speech address by Ken Burns. Well worth listening to this speech. 11+ minutes. (CC).

Cartoon: Sarah Palinsane should have been arrested and thrown into prison for inciting to assassinate, kill democratic candidates. Several people were wounded and killed during a meeting with Gabby Gifford's open air meeting with constituents. Six people, including District Court Judge John M. Roll, a 9-year-old girl, and an aide to Gifford were murdered on January 11, 2011in Arizona.

Palinsane needs to be forgotten. Buried!

  9. Sorry to learn of Julie's move – hope she'll be happy.

And I hope you're grilling her to see if she has any leads or friends in the field she'd recommend.

I forgot, did she come via an agency?  I know when my Mom was still living at home and having a Home Health Aide come in 3 days a week, they came through an agency.  (Had to for her Long Term Care insurance to apply)  Although there were some better than others, they all at least were satisfactory.

  10. Thanks all.  Hugs!!  On Julie, please see today's Open Thread.
