I’m getting another late start, because I’m so tired I needed a Lona nap this morning.  Then I needed to arrange a medical cab for all three trips to and from Casey Eye Institute next week.  Then I needed to massage the parade pictures into shape.  Finally I ordered a new pad for my wheelchair, as the old one is worn out.

Short Takes:

From NY Times: …Mr. Sanders said that he and Mrs. Clinton planned to meet on Tuesday and that he would ask her “whether she will be vigorous in standing up for working families in the middle class, moving aggressively in climate change, health care for all, making public colleges and universities tuition-free.”

“And after we have that kind of discussion and after we can determine whether or not we are going to have a strong and progressive platform,” he said, “I will be able to make other decisions.”

There have been signs that he was winding down his run. While Mrs. Clinton has been hiring campaign workers, Mr. Sanders started laying off at least half of his campaign staff members last week. He has let go of a number of advance staff members who help with campaign logistics, as well as field workers who have been canvassing for votes.

According to a person who attended the meeting at Mr. Sanders’s home Sunday, and who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe a private gathering, there was no talk from Mr. Sanders about trying to win the nomination. The group was keenly interested in how the senator’s meeting with Mrs. Clinton on Tuesday will turn out, and whether he would get assurances that she would fight for his ideas, this person said…

By continuing to run, Bernie increases the likelihood that his dream will live-on because it gives him a stronger negotiating position for the platform.  As their stance clings to more and more desperate delusions, those who say they follow Bernie, but ignore his overtures toward unity work to increase the likelihood that Bernie’s dream will die in a totalitarian Rump Dump Trump Reich.

From Alternet: …The Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity, which works to support and empower LGBTQ Muslims, declared in a statement released on Sunday, "This tragedy cannot be neatly categorized as a fight between the LGBTQ community and the Muslim community. As LGBTQ Muslims, we know that there are many of us who are living at the intersections of LGBTQ identities and Islam. At moments like this, we are doubly affected."

"We reject attempts to perpetuate hatred against our LGBTQ communities as well as our Muslim communities," the organization continued. "We ask all Americans to resist the forces of division and hatred, and to stand against homophobia as well as against Islamophobia and anti-Muslim bigotry."…

The violence stems from neither Islam, nor Christianity, but from right wing pseudo-Muslims and right-wing pseudo-Christians, who abuse their respective religions to pursue the right-wing hatred and homophobia that they share.

From Think Progress: This morning on Fox & Friends, Donald Trump not so subtly returned to the subject that launched his political career — outrageous conspiracy theories about Barack Obama.

Trump said there were two possible reasons the gun massacre took place in Orlando. The first possibility was that Obama is “not tough” and “not smart” and therefore incapable of stopping terrorist attacks.

The other scenario, according to Trump, is that Obama is fully capable of stopping terrorist attacks but “has something else in mind.” In other words, Obama is purposefully allowing terrorists to kill people in the United States to pursue a hidden agenda.

Barf Bag Alert!!

Perhaps we could use his hair as a filtration mesh for sewerage.  I can’t imagine any other productive use for him, at the moment.

  1. 5:19 (4:30)  My, how time flies when you're having fun.

Pix are gorgeous!  Roses seem to bring out creativity in parades.

NYTimes – Well, as you have said, Bernie is not the problem.

AlterNet – There is Christianity, and then there is Christianism (AKA Republican supply-side pseudo Christianity).  Then, there is Islam, and then there is Islamism (Republican supply-side pseudo-Islam).  Christiansists and Islamists are virtually indistinguishable, making life da**ed difficult for actual Christians and Muslims.  If we could only get that through everyone's heads!

TP – You know, only Donald Trump would say something that vile.  If you follow that thread, does that lead to the theory that it is actually Trumo who "has something else in mind"?

Cartoon – Yes indeed.  It has now become a decision more honored in the breach than in the observance, alas.

  2. TP: He has no respect. At.All. Period.

LOVE the pictures, what a great parade!!

Company here for an evening, got the barbie going.

Hope that you get some rest, enjoy your evening, and take care. Thanks, Tom.

  3. The problem is Clinton isn't giving his supporters any good progressive reasons to support her and the allegations of election fraud in virtually every state to a greater or lesser degree, for those following that news, gives reason to believe the actual results might not be as the media, who are also defendents in at least one as accessory after the fact, has misled us into believing so he actually may have won more delegates than her.  That gives most rational people reason not to promise to support her prematurely and not until the convention at least.

    • I have pledged to support the Democratic nominee, as any rational person should, and if that were to be Bernie, I woulkd be more that thrilled.  However, the means remaining to achieve that end are so far fetched that I see it as virtually impossible.

  4. "I love a parade!"  Me too.  Nice pics.

NY T: I'm sorry, but the odds that even with the vote cheating issue, I do not think Bernie will wind up with the nomination, for better, or worse.

Alternet: Never heard of the MASGD, but wish them huge success!!!!

TP: I am guessing that Mr. "Campaign by inuendo" is referring to his delusion that Pres. Obama is a secret Muslim  mole with a world domination plot up his sleeves.  The almost man is so bonzo.  It is a shame that he is in a position from which his statements on things (I almost wrote "opinion," but he hasn't any, except that he is the only entity in the world that matters) will be sought on a daily basis.  Even if the GOPigs derail him at their convention, we will not be rid of him until some young woman throws water on him!   I did not watch the video, having only recently finished eating!  TC, I think he might have anticipated the sewage thing, because, pretty much, that's what emanates from his mouth.

Cartoon: Despite the failed movement to impeach Chief justice Earl Warren, THAT was a SCOTUS to be proud about!

    • Mitch–this is the current status on CA's vote that mathematically, using trends (today was only a few thousand more votes included) and these numbers do carry at least potential of a Bernie win if provisional ballots are treated appropriately:
Bernie's percent increase by 0.1% with the latest update which included Butte County (Bernie spoke in Chico which has a large college and Bernie is taking over 60% of the votes there) and Del Norte (far north forest and environmental issues where Bernie has over 57% of the votes so far) and Lassen (far north forest and environmental issues where Bernie has over 53% of the votes so far), one large population county in So CA, San Bernardino where the difference has dropped to 13% (Clinton lead) , large in No. CA San Francisco where her lead is now less than 10%, and Tulare (Central Valley) where lead is less as well. Over a third of the counties have done no updates since the last on election night.

Still an estimated 2,303,639 more to count–717,862 of them are provisional ballots.
Current counted voted difference is 473,638…

By the way, top election official has endorsed Clinton

    • Mitch, I agree with you, but some are so emotionally invested in ABH that trhe only real option is to wsait till it's over.

  5. Your parade pix are amazingly FAB-U-LOUS!

And it looks like you live in a great neihborhood!  (OK – from your comments, maybe a tiny bit noisy at times … FOR YOU!  Wouldn't bother me a bit!)

  6. These photos are gorgeous.  New Orleans has nothing over Portland, these are as great as the ones at Mardi Gras.  Thanks for sharing them with us.

NY Times:  I hope the meeting between Sanders and Clinton results in the gains he hopes for and some progressive views prevail.  The fighting between the two groups must stop, it is damaging and makes us look like Republicans.

Alternet:  Your  summary says it all!

Think Progress:  He is a sewer!

Cartoon:  That is when we had people in SCOTUS who knew why they were really there, to serve the American people, not corporate sponsors. .

  7. Puzzle — 3:16  Poor flutterby!  I think you are fricasée for the Puddy Tat unless he has a change of heart or becomes a vegetarian.

NY Times — "By continuing to run, Bernie increases the likelihood that his dream will live-on because it gives him a stronger negotiating position for the platform.  As their stance clings to more and more desperate delusions, those who say they follow Bernie, but ignore his overtures toward unity work to increase the likelihood that Bernie’s dream will die in a totalitarian Rump Dump Trump Reich."  — AMEN!!!

Alternet — ""We need to reject homophobia and Islamophobia. One form of hate can't justify another."" — AMEN!!!

Think Progress — Drumpf is the sewer and it is past time to flush the sewer, and flush it profusely before the sewer overflows.  He uses fear and paranoia like others use potable water.

    Cartoon — From Wikipedia

"The Miranda warning is part of a preventive criminal procedure rule that law enforcement are required to administer to protect an individual who is in custody and subject to direct questioning or its functional equivalent from a violation of his or her Fifth Amendment right against compelled self-incrimination. In Miranda v. Arizona (1966), the Supreme Court held that the admission of an elicited incriminating statement by a suspect not informed of these rights violates the Fifth Amendment and the Sixth Amendment right to counsel, through the incorporation of these rights into state law.[Note 1] Thus, if law enforcement officials decline to offer a Miranda warning to an individual in their custody, they may interrogate that person and act upon the knowledge gained, but may not use that person's statements as evidence against him or her in a criminal trial."

I wonder what SCROTUS would do with a challenge!

    Good parade pics!

  8. Thanks for the pictures of the parade, TomCat. Especially the one of the float with the three fox cubs, it was gorgeous. Keep enjoying the naps as much as you can, only one more week to go.

NYT: Bernie is the perfect example of how a person can be have great dreams for the future and be a realist at the same time. If all progressives could put their minds to try and combine both for themselves too, the Drumpf era could be cut short before it came to blossom. Much depends on how the discussion Bernie and Hillary have on Thursday will turn out and who Bernie decides as a result. Bernie is no man to fool or fool around with, and his clout is still very powerful, so if he wants to work with Hillary after the meeting, his supporters should follow his advice and do the same.

Alternet: Excellent statement from the The Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity. This attack has little or nothing to do with religion, except that it is a vehicle and an excuse for bigotry and hate and creates a platform for more hatred and bigotry of the extremists who come crawling out of the woodwork from ALL sides.

TP: Make up your mind, Drumpf. Obama is either "weak" and "not smart" or he is neither and he has masterminded all this for his "hidden agenda". You can't have both. But that's not bothering you, nor your horde, is it? In your version of reality you think that these statements will turn you into a "strong" and "very smart" and very transparent person in people's minds. The most horrifying thing is that that's about the only thing you're right about since so many people have joined you in your alternate reality.

  9. Thanks all!  Hugs!!  Glad yoiu liked the pics.
