As usual, I’m running late,  Julie was here.  Killer Dawg loves his service animal vest.  Julie went on a feist and did most of the housework tasks I planned for Saturday.  Now that the heat wave is finally over, my shower was especially welcome.  I’m waiting for my groceries to be delivered and for a former prisoner’s daughter to stop by.  I’m helping them with a bus ticket to Portland.  I look forward to a night’s sleep without needsing AC.

The fat lady has sung. Hillary has won enough delegates to be nominated. She has won a majority of pledged delegates. She has won the popular vote by over 3,600,000 voters.  I have been a Bernie Sanders man from day one, but the time has come for me to admit defeat and urge Bernie to throw his considerable fire and skill behind the presumptive Democratic Nominee. The only other alternative is Rump Dump Trump.

From Daily Kos: Donald Trump’s GOP nomination isn’t a hypothetical anymore and he is proving even worse than originally anticipated, what with his repeated attacks on the ability of Mexican and Muslim judges to do their jobs. Unfortunately for Republicans, they’ve all pretty much caved and endorsed Trump and now they "own" him, reports CNN:

Veteran Republican strategist Rick Wilson warned this weekend that GOP leaders who have endorsed Trump "own his politics."

"You own his politics," Wilson wrote in a column for Heatstreet, adding later, "You own the racial animus that started out as a bug, became a feature and is now the defining characteristic of his campaign. You own every crazy, vile chunk of word vomit that spews from his mouth."

The GOP’s deepest fear: A Barry Goldwater effect that could last far longer than Trump’s political aspirations.

Goldwater, the Arizona senator who was the 1964 GOP nominee and a leader of the conservative movement, alienated a generation of African-American voters by opposing the Civil Rights Act — opening the door for Democrats to lock in their support for decades. Republicans fret that Trump could similarly leave a stain with Latino voters.

On the other hand, many Republicans continued to oppose AuH2O after the nomination, but today, virtually all Republicans are goose-stepping in lock-step behind Rump Dump. He says what they pretend not to support, but do support through their policies.

From The New Yorker: Upping the ante in his quest for the White House, Vermont senator Bernie Sanders vowed on Tuesday night to continue battling for the Democratic Presidential nomination even if Hillary Clinton is elected President of the United States.

“If, on November 8th of this year, Hillary Clinton is elected President, we will have only begun to fight,” Sanders told a packed rally in San Francisco.

Sanders acknowledged that continuing to fight for the nomination after Clinton is elected President would represent a “steep challenge,” but added, “When we started this race we were only at three per cent in the polls. Anything is possible.”

Oh Andy!!

  1. The reason so many Rethuglicans are angry at Trump is not because he’s made so many racist, bigoted, misogynistic, xenophobic, etc. statements … hell, they love and have said them themselves.

It’s because he’s put away the usual GOP Dog Whistles, and switched to using a BULLHORN!

  2. RPC:  It's Definitely NOT Drumpf for sure!!! Vote Blue!!!

NYer: I read that, and re-read it again…LOL, Andy!!

Cartoon: I remember my father talking about this at the dinner table. A real tragedy.

Julie sounds wonderful for you. Hope that you have a nice visit, and a good evening. Take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. 5:39  Can't even blame the phone, I let it go to voicemail.

RCP – In 2008, Hillary kept her campaign active until four days after the last primary, and one of the reasons she did was that there were people who had waited their whole lives to be able to vote for a woman.  Well, there are now people who have waited their whole lives to be able to vote for a Democratic Socialist, and I think Bernie should stay in until the primaries are over for that reason alone.  I also think it would not hurt Hillary a bit, and in fact would help her with those Sanders supporters who might be on the fence, to make a public statement to that effect.  Just as in the first debate Bernie made a public statement that he didn't care about her damn' emails.  Party unity goes both ways, or should.  Don't worry about me, you know I will vote blue no matter who.  But not everyone will, and that is not just Bernie's problem.

DKos – Rick Wilson must be olde enough – they call him a veteran – to have some brains and some honor, and be able to make clear statements.  You'd be hard put to find that in the Republican Party today.  BTW, though, there has been at least one Senator resign from the Republican Party over Trump, and more seem to be not going to the Convention.  So maybe the goose-stepping is not as tight as they want you to think – maybe it consist solely of those who are left in the Party, and there's no real way just now to count that.

New Yorker – Has Andy been getting his news from Markos?

Cartoon – WEll, I guess there is privilege in international law as well as in other kinds of law.  Not that I am pointing a finger exactly – it's hard to know the truth when privilege comes in like the fog to obscure it, is all.

    • Party unity, most assuredly, goes both ways.

We should give Sen. Sanders time to evaluate the current situation and stay in through the DC primary if he so chooses.  And Sec. Clinton has pretty much said as much.

But since it is, as you noted, a “two-way street” – it’s also time for Sanders to tone down his rhetoric.  It does him, his leverage or his legacy any good to continue in a campaign mode that he has NO chance of winning.

Nor does it do any good for the Democratic Party – either at the top of the ticket or down-ballot.

      • Agreed, Bernie Sanders should stay in the primaries to keep both Hillary on her toes, the Democrats aware of the changes needed and the voters with a chance to show what they expect of the next Democratic president and of the party.

But also agreed on the toning down of the rhetoric. Sanders should be aware of the division he could create within the party if he doesn't approach the primaries realistically. If he's getting up people's hope for the nomination and turning their backs on the Democratic party disillusioned when that doesn't happen, it could have the country end up worse than it was with president Drumpf.

  4. "Oh, Andy", is RIGHT! Please start getting behind the Democratic party! We HAVE to defeat Rump Dump! He is the one that will be the cause of all kinds of devestation of any and ALL things we need! He will get rid of Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, any Food Stamps and ALL social safety nets that the poor and needy have to have to live!

Hope you are doing well, TC!

  5. The Fat lady has sung, indeed!

The GOPigs own the horseshit for which they have been quietly the groundwork for quite some years now.  Rumpy just never bothered with the memo about keeping it surreptitous.

I had to read Andy a cuple of times before realizing it was Andy!

Tom, what the heck does all that stuff mean?  I do get the LMAO.

  6. The DNC says no media source can count super delegates yet so Clinton is still short even if she keeps all those awarded, possibly in error, in CA based on only about 40% of the votes having been counted.

  7. Hillary has won the votes and is the presumptive nominee.  That said, I hope Bernie stays in until the convention so that he can get the DNC to include some of the Progressive proposals.

  8. Puzzle — 3:22  That dawg is all yours Puddy Tat!  Don't choke on the foul, tough meat!

Real Clear Politics — Sadly, I agree.  I think Bernie's best action is to promote party unity with his "Bernie or bust" supporters so that the Democrats are able to wipe the Republicans from history.  Also, he could be working on the platform.

Daily Kos — Mitch "The GOPigs own the horseshit for which they have been quietly the groundwork for quite some years now.  Rumpy just never bothered with the memo about keeping it surreptitous." — AMEN!!!

The New Yorker — Maybe Bernie is getting an early start on 2020!  . . . or 2024!

Cartoon — That's gratitude for you!

  9. I'm disappointed, no picture of Killer Dawg in his brand new service vest. ;-} Good of you to help the daughter out, hope you got the ticket sorted.

RCP: Yes, whichever way you look at it, Hillary has won the nomination. It's always harder to accept defeat when it was such a close finish, much closer than anyone expected, and it is quite understandably very emotional. It is however imperative to close ranks now, because whether Democrats like it or not, the Republicans are doing so behind Trump and given their history, their voters are more likely to go out and vote for a Republican candidate they dislike than stay home or vote for a Democrat. That's just the way it is. This has always been the difference between conservative and progressive voters, not only in America but everywhere. The high level of conscientiousness of progressives could also be the undoing of the Democratic party in this election. I fully understand the dilemma Bernie supporters face, but if they want to keep America from going down hill even further while continuing to (re)build on a progressive, Democratic Socialist party for which Bernie has undeniably layed the foundations, they will have to vote and vote strategically, just like Canadians have done in the last election. Because with Drumpf as president, all the work Bernie and his team have put in and all the change they have already brought about will turn to dust and America will be in the grip of the megalomaniac and sociopathic 1% for many years to come.

DK: I had not read this article when I wrote the comment above, so now there's little left to be to be added or repeated. The GOP leadership will goose step behind their spawn and their voters will too, because Drumpf is like a bag with a mix of all the flavors of their base's favorite snack. There's always a flavor they like and while they're happily munching away, they forget about all the flavors they don't like or even find disgusting and fail to notice their particular flavor has been discontinued in the next Drumpf bag.

TNY: m so glad that as a solid Bernie supporter you can laugh about Andy's satire, TomCat, because it is very funny, but for some Bernie supporters this may have hit a very raw nerve and Andy may have a few progressive readers because of it. It doesn't make it any less hilarious, though.

  10. Thanks all!!  Hugs!!
