My appointment with the Radiation Oncologist was very informative, and I’m proud to have resisted the temptation to use "well" in association with Dr. Hung’s name.  I won’t glow in the dark or lose my hair.  I have jumped through all my hoops.  Now it’s just a matter of working out the timing and polishing the details with Shirley, who is Allison’s (my Ocular Oncologist) anal retentive assistant.  She is better suited to a career as a Dominatrix than as a medical professional.  She is one size fits all, talks through people, not to them, and does not listen well enough to hear.  I’ve been very assertive, and have not blown up at her, but… Steaming mad  I was completely exhausted and spent the morning using up my supply from Lona the Napster.

The fat lady will sing tonight, after Hillary gets 214 or more pledged delegates, but AP was out of line to declare it over last night.

From Daily Kos: Louie Gohmert, America’s dumbest Congressman (courtesy of disgraced former Majority Leader Tom Delay) proves once again why he is worthy of his title—this time with dire warnings about gay astronauts and the end of the world:

I really wonder how many people in this body who had the ultimate power to decide whether humanity would go forward or not, whether there was an asteroid coming or something that would end humanity on Earth as dinosaurs were ended at one time—okay …

If you could decide what 40 people you would put on the spacecraft who would save humanity, how many of those would be same-sex couples?  You are wanting to save humankind for posterity—basically, a modern-day Noah. You have that ability to be a modern-day Noah. You can preserve life. How many same-sex couples would you take from the animal kingdom and from humans to put on the spacecraft to perpetuate humanity and the wildlife kingdom?

Yes, he really said that.

Go-Go-Goose-step. Does it again!! Actually, the best mix to save humanity would be to send all progressive lesbian couples with each woman pregnant from a different progressive man and also sperm samples from a completely different set of progressive men That would triple the gene pool on the space craft. The key is to keep the gene pool closed to Republican swimmers.

From Alternet: Political polarization in America is growing, and it’s not just due to the presidential election. But according to psychiatrist Gail Saltz, if we only knew how the other side’s brains work, we’d be able to communicate better.

"What’s really fascinating is that there have been a number of recent studies looking at brain structural differences between liberals and conservatives," said Saltz. "And what’s been found in several studies is that liberals tend to have a larger anterior cingulate gyrus. That is an area that is responsible for taking in new information and that impact of the new information on decision making or choices. Conservatives tended on the whole to have a larger right amygdala. Amygdala being a deeper brain structure that processes more emotional information—specifically fear-based information," Saltz explained.

We’ve seen similar studies before. Democrats tend to have brains that are better suited for problem solving and communications, while Republicans have brains that are better suited to fight of flight, or put another way, lizard brains.  That’s why the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, keeps hyping fear

  1. 4:57 (5:14)   You say you could eat a horse?

RCP – I personally will not sing until the Convention.

DKos – You are assuming thet perpetuating humanity is a good idea.  Even with your scenario, I suspect it would take one generation for trouble to creep into paradise.  I'm thinking all gay ment but mixed-gender wildlife.

AlterNet – Earthshaking news – I did manage to make a comment on an AlterNet article that was so clear that a gun nut actually agreed with it.  Here's the exchange:

Me:  Here's, to me, the bottom line: a private person of color who shoots and kills another private person of color is not doing so in my name. A law enforcement officer of any color who shoots and kills another person of any color IS doing so in my name. I do not want anyone to be doing in my name anything I do not approve of. Therefore, I would hold law enforcement officers to a higher standard. And that is not happening.

Gun nut (a deduction from other comments with same username):  I think I can agree with that. An unjustified killing (e.g. of an unarmed person) by somebody who is armed, trained, and paid with tax dollars to protect people is substantially more concerning than one private person killing another. The fact that the latter case is more common is a separate concern, but getting the police under control is extremely important, and should probably come before additional gun control measures, since it is those (excessively violent) police who will be called upon to enforce those new laws in a reasonable manner.

But I agree.  Mostly it is impossible.  That's why I call this earthshaking.
I don't expect to see anything like it again any time soon.  Oh, yeah, the article is at http://www.alternet.org/activism/what-black-americans-say-about-black-black-gun-violence and now has 176 comments, mostly irrational.

    Cartoon – Yup.

  2. RPC: I'll wait and see….what happens…

DK: What an ID. It's starting to get hot here in Texas…

    AN: Interesting article.

Glad that your appointment went well with Dr. Hung. She sounds wonderful. Shirley sounds likes she wants to be in charge. That makes it hard for patients, and very tiring. Oddly, I worked with an inclusion teacher who was like Shirley, and found it to be exhausting to be around her. It was a learning experience for me. Hope that you have a relaxing evening, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. You feed brain neural pathways and by what you choose to use and/or do…you lose those you don't use.

Glad the pre-op vetting is over and things seem so good.

  4. DK:  I like your solution!  Gohmert is a total fool, Delay was a total jackass!  And, they put him on "Dancing With the Stars"!

Alternet: Yes, various studies have shown that neurological difference.  The amygdala is part of the limbic system, which runs the "fight or flight" system, and conservatives have been shown, as I recall, to be the walking fearful, prone to anticipate loss, quick to shut down listening, cognition, in favor of defensiveness.  There is no room to consider the view points of others, or their needs, when you expect that they only want to take what you already have, rather than make having a more equable game….to everyone's benefit.

Good luck with the proceedure!  You dominatrix hater!

  5. Puzzle — 3:27  Horse and rider are a team so if you eat the horse Puddy Tat, you have to eat the rider.  That my furry friend would be murder.

Real Clear Politics — Well Clinton may have won the votes necessary to win the nomination, but Bernie is not finished yet.  According to Huffington Post:

"Obama will meet with Sanders in Washington on Thursday, the same day the Vermont senator plans to hold a rally there. The meeting was arranged “at Senator Sanders’ request,” Earnest said, and the two will discuss “how to build on the extraordinary work he has done to engage millions of Democratic voters, and to build on that enthusiasm in the weeks and months ahead.”"

Daily Kos — Goh-merde never disappoints . . . always an unintelligent jackass whose biggest gift to humanity would be to hold his breath.

Alternet — "Democrats tend to have brains that are better suited for problem solving and communications, while Republicans have brains that are better suited to fight of flight, or put another way, lizard brains." — Scientific proof that Republicans are from the 19th century, and incapable of moving forward because they are afraid of change?

    Cartoon — Definition of Republicans!

  6. "AP was out of line to declare it over last night." Yes, they were!

AP should be shot, quartered, cut into pieces, hung up to dry and fed to the Lions.
AP is declaring the winner even before the election has started!
There are voters out there thinking, "Ah, what's the use of voting?" And they don't vote. Every VOTE counts even in a primary as there are many other issues to be voted on.

Something needs to be done about this kind of reporting!
The NEWS are always scrambling to be the "First" to report the news
for its perceived in upping their image and ratings. Pitiful.

I voted, easy in and out for me at the polling place. Of course, It's Bernie time. lol.

  7. Your doctors you're dealing with nowadays all seem to be good professionals and nice enough people, TomCat, but the staff they hire seem to leave something to be desired, don't they. Probably because the doctors are very good at the medical side of things but not so much at office management and have no clue what too look for in the staff they hire seen from their client's perspective. I hope you got through to this assistant in the end and there will be no more hiccups on her part which will raise your blood pressure unduly. Good to hear that the radiation of your treatment will have very localized effects only.
Sending more catnaps to deal with after effects of the assistant.

RCP: Hillary seems to have managed to get the delegates she needed for her nomination and she has comfortably won California too, but she could have expected Bernie to declare it's not over 'til it's over, because she did exacly the same 8 years ago when Obama had enough delegates to win the bid.

DK: Personally I don't think the human species deserves to be saved (from itself). Not only because there's too big a chance that they'll produce more Louie Gohmerts in the future, but also because they'll probably do the whole (self) destruction bit all over again, perhaps only faster. These two reasons are of course very strongly linked.
Now will someone please show Gohmert some compassion and have him committed?

Alternet: I may have mentioned before that I started my working life as a psychologist, a psycho-physiologist to be precise, doing research at a university on psychosomatics. Although I hate to burst your balloon, from that perspective I can only tell you that this kind of research and especially the conclusions drawn from it – how can I say this politely – must be taken with a bag of salt. They fall in the same category as the American studies in the 70s reported that the brains of black people are smaller than those of white people and were frowned upon by the scientific community which then soon proved the data was seriously manipulated or compromised by biased sampling. But the reptilian brain and the enlarged limbic (right only??) amigdala (amigdalum?) are a lot of fun to play around with in political discussions, aren't they

Cartoon: No research needed for this truth.

  8. Thanks all. Getting bleary eyed.  Hugs!!
