I’m getting ready to leave for my MRI.  I have a problem.  When I woke up this morning, without the slightest provocation from me, my computer said "Welcome to Windows 10."

  1. Nothing like getting an OS you didn't sign up for nor want. There have been a number of disquieting reports on the merits of Windows 10.

Yup, those congresscritters who do not do their jobs should have their pay reduced by $100,000.

    27th Amendment:   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-seventh_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution
    .

    • Puzzle — 9:13 on my laptop.  I have to go back to my desktop for puzzles!  My times are embarassing!

Cartoon — "The Twenty-seventh Amendment (Amendment XXVII) to the United States Constitution prohibits any law that increases or decreases the salary of members of Congress from taking effect until the start of the next set of terms of office for Representatives." — In light of current congressional Republican shenanigans, too bad it forbids decreases in salaries.

  2. CA did that kind of pay withholding related to failing to pass a budget and we've had on time budgets ever since.

  3. 7:15  I guess I wasn't in enough of a hurry to leave this sweetie.

Windows 10 – OMG I am so sorry!  I know you are savvy and will deal, but it is a pain.  And it's now too late to suggest a Windows 10 blocker (well, unless you uninstall first).  If you do uninstall, and want to block for future, consider this one.    It is really fast, and it checks for files already there (or leftover) and will delete them if you ask.  It is recommended by Computer World in an article that also gives a huge amount of background.  Of course you don't want to do anything until you read everything you can find about it.

    Cartoon – Well, that's nice, I guess.

  4. Cartoon: If they don't do their job, (repugs), why do they get paid? Does this also include receiving an automatic cost of living allowance, and being increased yearly?

Thanks for that link, Joanne. I'm going to have to do my homework. lol.

Best to you with your MRI. Have a good rest of your day, Thanks, Tom.

  5. First, good luck w/ your MRI

Second, before trying an uninstall of Windows 10 – and if push came to shove, of course I would go w/ the FREE Revo Uninstaller I had recommended and you used to get rid of a stubborn Norton program – but FIRST …

I can't imagine that it didn't set a "Restore Point" before it was installed – assuming it's legit and not a malware or Trojan.  So I'd certainly run all the security programs you have installed first before doing anything!

If it's all clean, then I'd try the "Restore Point" option before I'd try an uninstall – which would probably take hours!

(I will note that somewhere along the line my Chrome browser got corrupted, and even Revo has failed in being able to get rid of it so I could reinstall – even after letting Revo run for > 8 hours!)

My new Dell 8900 came w/ Windows 10 – no options.  The learning curve has definitely been steeper than I hoped for, but I'm getting there.  I'm hopeful it'll be like the MS Office ribbon: when it first came out I HATED it – but now I can't imagine working w/out it.

    • The HP my husband bought me for Christmas came with Windows 10, and I have had oneproblem after another.  I still cannot get proper sound on videos.

  6. Don't ya just love those "updates" you didn't want? I feel your pain, TC! Get used to one OS and all of a sudden, BAM, a while new one that you have to decipher!!!

  7. DAMN!!!

    And DAMN! again!

    Good luck with theMRI.

  8. Best wishes for your MRI.

I have Windows 10 on my new PC, and it makes Windows look wonderful.

  9. If your version of Windows 10 works like my version of Windows 10, you do indeed have a problem, T.C. Take a chill pill and soldier on.

  10. Hey, TC –

WRT Windows 10 I just saw this, this morning in the NY Times:

"Why Windows 10 Upgrades Go Wrong, and How to Avoid It"

With a separate link to a MS Site on how to revert to a previous version

Go back to your previous version of Windows

For a month after you upgrade to Windows 10, you’ll be able to go back to your previous version of Windows from Settings > Update & security > Recovery. This will keep your personal files, but it'll remove apps and drivers installed after the upgrade, as well as any changes you made to settings.

To go back, you'll need to:

    • Keep everything in the windows.old and $windows.~bt folders after the upgrade.

    • Remove any user accounts you added after the upgrade.

    • Know the password you used to sign in to Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 (if you used one).

    • Have the USB drive you used to upgrade to Windows 10 (if you used one).

  11. Welcome to Windows 10 indeed, TomCat. That'll keep you busy for a few days, trying to find your own stuff and getting the settings just right so it feels like your computer again. I hope all your drivers of the non-Windows programs…sorry, apps…are recent and work under 10. Don't worry, you'll get used to it. Eventually. 😉

Hope your MRI went well, without any unexpected hiccups or unwanted OS upgrades.

  12. Thanks all Hugs!!!  It's actual;ly behaving well.  I'll keep it!!
