Another day, another late start,  I ran Quicken to download my transactions and discovered that my subscription had run out,  I had to upgrade from 2013 to 2016 to keep using it.  I followed the prompts to buy the software,  Then it told me to sign in to Intuit’s web site.  When  I did, it said that it would send me an email to prove who I am.  The problem is that I have since changed from Clear to Comcast, and I no longer have that email address.  So I called Customer Service and spent over an hour waiting on hold, before I finally gave up.  Finally I found an online form to change my email address,  I even had to scan my Oregon ID and attach a PDF file.  They sent me an email with links to make the changes and in three more steps, I was finally able to download Quicken.  Then I had to install, register  and configure it.  Finally, several hours later, I downloaded my transactions.  I actually would not recommend the program you, but I am not aware if anything else that downloads and manages transactions with multiple bank and credit card accounts.  Anyway, that’s why I’m late.  ARGH!!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:15 (average 5:00).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Must be tough being George Will — watching someone like Donald Trump shit all over the party he spent decades carrying water for.

Must be a horrifying experience.

Were he to be nominated, conservatives would have two tasks. One would be to help him lose 50 states — condign punishment for his comprehensive disdain for conservative essentials, including the manners and grace that should lubricate the nation’s civic life. Second, conservatives can try to save from the anti-Trump undertow as many senators, representatives, governors and state legislators as possible.

If that’s what even an establishment Republican pundit thinks, our opposition to Fecal Dump Trump must be positively livid!

From Alternet: Jimmy Kimmel generally keeps things relatively light, comedy wise, on his late night show. But apparently, Sarah Palin’s appearance in a new climate change denial film called Climate Hustle got the host fired up enough to take up the dumb-dumbness that is both Palin and the entire climate change denial brigade, aka, the GOP.

Ding Bat Barf Bag Alert!!

They’re damn right it’s real, and I’m not bleeping with you either!

Also from Alternet: Wealth inequality is even more of a problem than income inequality. That’s because you have to have enough savings from income to begin to accumulate wealth — buying a house or investing in stocks and bonds, or saving up to send a child to college.

As usual, the Reich on the left, Robert Reich, is right and the Reich on the Right, the Republican Reich, is wrong… and evil.

Godwin’s Law – a common meme used by Republicans, other fascists, pseudo-intellectuals, and people with their heads in the sand or in smellier places, whenever anyone points out the verifiable commonalities between today’s Republican Party and Germany’s National Socialist Party, shortly before Hitler became dictator.

  1. 4:25  (5:00)  Hard to say whether it would be edible for a puddy tat.

DKos – Well, I'm afraid I can't have a lot of sympathy for him.  For one thing, he's living in a bubble if he thinks that "manners and grace" characterize conservatives.  Or should.  (By which I mean that manners and grace do not go well with the conservative platform of starving the poor, stealing public land, etc.)

AlterNet – If, as he suggests, Sarah WANTS climate change because it's cold in Alaska, she can expect a disappointment.  Living in the Rockies, I have observed that increased ice melt at the poles has increased the snowfall here with airborne water that didn't use to be available.  That is from WARMING.  Seriously.  And BTW I am sitting here on May 3 with a space heater at my feet because I need it to keep from sneezing my head off, while in Portland, it is what? 84 degrees?  And also, if someone pitched a piano off a roof at me, I would be A flat Major.  Oh, wait, I'm not in the Marine Corps any more.  Never mind.

AlterNet II – And Republicans are JUST FINE with the status quo.  Good grief, if kids of color get a break, go to college, get good jobs, what will happen to the school-to-prison pipeline which is funding all their donations?  (I'm not really frothing at the mouth, but I am angry, yes.)

Cartoon – Yeah, I have always felt it was bogus.

  2. DK"The GOP civil war is fixin’ to commence." Will watch on TV., with popcorn in hand!! 😉

AN: Jimmy is spot on, as well as the other folks who talk about this….like scientists. Texas for sure has some climate behavior going on, what with a tornado going through the other side of town early last Saturday morning, torrential flooding,  and last year, the fires.

AlterNet: I like the idea of newborns receiving a savings account. That way, when they get older, they can get into college with those funds.

Sorry that you had to wait an hour on the phone w/no help, and after hanging up too. Glad that you got everything downloaded to your satisfaction. My outdoor activities took most of the day, and then school obligations too. I hear the kids saying that there's 19 days of school left (here) !! Wow, where DID the time go? Relax, and enjoy your evening, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. WOW! What a day!!! Sounds like you have been in the endless supply of electronic circle of, well YOU know. I know how that is. Seems like that happens every time I try to sign in with some websites.

I have NEVER seen George Will be that down in the dumps about ANY election!!! LOL!!! I love IT!!! I'm dancing in my head right now!! I can just see the local repukkklican election board meetings!!! It's got to be HILARIOUS! They must be as busy as a car covering up poop!!!

The Kimmel video was DA BOMB!!! I loved it! Sarah Palin has NO idea what she is talking about!!! GEEEEZ, LOUISE!! GET A GRIP, WENCH!!! Oh, and by the way, go back to Alaska and STAY THERE!!!

As you said, the right Riech is on the LEFT!!! You can't even have a car payment if you are on Medicaid!!! That's why I can't get Medicaid!!!

    Love the cartoon!!!

  4. Sigh…if things don't change they remain the same…

  5. Palin must be swimming in more frigging denial money than even the Koch boys have!!!!

    Racial wealth gap…you bet'cha!

    Teddy has gone home.

  6. That is a rough way to start your day.

Daily Kos:  Poor George Will, he must be bursting with anger and frustration that he is too well mannered to let out.  He and his ilk are why we are saddled with so many "conservatives" in Congress.

Alternet:  Kimmel does a good job of explaining how the scientists rarely agree with each other bu 97% agree about climate change.  Please, someone build a wall that Palin cannot climb and keep her out of the media.  She is an embarassment to Alaska.

I agree with Reich, but these steps will never happen.  Too much has been invested in making the lower middle class feel superior to the truly poor.  I hear complaints all the time about "those people" on welfare and food stamps.  The sad fact is that we have entire families in this area who have never known any other life.  Poverty is rampant, and there is little incentive to do anything else.  If a person on welfare gets a job, they lose part or all of their check and food stamps, as well as housing assistance, immediately.  Who in their right mind would do that for a minimum wage job?

Cartoon:  Heads in the sand will never recognize the resemblance to our current Republicans.

  7. Puzzle — 3:06 No butterfly fricassée for you today Puddy Tat!

Daily Kos — "The GOP civil war is fixin’ to commence. The guns are loaded and aimed at Fort Sumter. And the only way it can end is after Hillary’s March to the Sea in November." — Hold on to your seats boys and girls!  All sanity is gone from the Republican party.

Alternet — Kimmel certainly has the "deniers" pegged.  As Mahatma Gandhi said:

"An error does not become truth by reason of multiplied propagation, nor does truth become error because nobody sees it.

. . . or nobody wants to see it!

Alternet —  Robert Reich is correct.  Economic inequality and racial inequality go together all too often.  There has to be a concerted effort to reduced wealth inequality for the health of society.

Cartoon — The resemblance is uncanny!

  8. This has been one of those days you start doubting that the digital age would make all our lives so much easier, hasn't it TomCat? All of the space that you create for yourself by doing one thing easier is automatically filled with loads of other stuff to do, all so much easier too, and after a while all the time you saved yourself is consumed by upgrades, installing new versions and being beaten down by software and hardware bugs and glitches and lousy service. But it does make the world so much smaller and right at your fingertips. How else would we communicate and read your marvelous blog, right?

DK: Let's hope establishment conservatives will heed George Will's advise now Trump is sure to get the nomination and help him lose in all states. But when has the GOP ever listened to sound advise? They created the monster and, like doctor Frankenstein, they don't know how to kill it and will be trying to hunt it down until it kills them.

Alternet 1: Jimmy Kimmel did an excellent job a showing Palin up for what she is: an attention seeker who can't string a coherent sentence together even when sober. That fact also throws some light on how desperate the corporatskis are; to begin with for making this movie in the first place, but then to have nobody else but Sarah Palin willing and incapable of promoting this garbage. Kimmel's video does the job so much better, having real scientists telling it like it is, Drumpf style. That should hit home with the right wing too, were it not that they just do not believe any scientist ever, period. Makes you wonder if they ever visit their GP who describes them medication based on science.

Alternet 2: "All of us benefit when everyone has the opportunity to accumulate wealth". Reich is spot-on again; it really is that simple. But as it implies that the already very wealthy have to share a little of their wealth with others it will never happen as long as the 1% rule the country through their hand puppets in the GOP, and some in the Democratic party.

Cartoon: From Wikipedia: Godwin's law itself can be abused as a distraction, diversion or even as censorship, fallaciously miscasting an opponent's argument as hyperbole when the comparisons made by the argument are actually appropriate.

  9. Thanks all!!  Hugs!!
