In politics it is said, that when not fueled by hope there is a vacuum for fear to fill. Since artists turn to the muses, Clio, Euterpe, Thalia, Melpomene, Terpsichore, Erato, Polymnia, Ourania and Calliope we are exploring what they can offer us for inspiration to have the hope fueling politics.

"Hope is patience with the lamp lit. "                        erato
Tertullian

"Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out."
Vaclav Havel

Today's sole offering is Erato's (love) [hat tip Joanne]:

  1. I had previously heard about this and think that it is an excellent idea.  No matter the disease, it is often family and close friends that get the fund raising ball going because they have such an intimate acquaintance with the disease/condition.

    • Good point Lynn. Also the back story on some legislative efforts related to services for the blind, mental health parity, Medicare coverage of dialysis, etc…

  2. Thanks, JL.  I was deeply touched myself (and I'm a Trekkie, pace Elizabeth Warren).  Y'all may want to steer away from the comments though.  No matter how nice a thing someone does, there are always people complaining that it isn't good enough.

    • Thanks for warning people Joanne–and I often wonder how much of it is guilt because they wouldn't even try to do something with any similarity given their circumstances for someone else.

  3. What a kind, loving, and compassionate father he is!! This is wonderful, for what he did for his daughter, and for continuing research to FACES, and to find a cure.

    Well done, Han Solo!!

Thank you, Joanne for story, and JL for posting.

    • Harrison Ford is displaying the qualities of a loving & caring father & a person who cares about others & getting off the good start for the fundraiser for epilepsy.

  4. Glad that Harrison Ford donated the Han Solo jacket for charity and for personal reasons. Harrison does increase an awareness for this disease, condition. Medications do help alleviate seizures as they work properly with the correct dosages.

People are often not aware of this fact: Epilepsy can be life threatening. Getting an early diagnosis and medications are very important. Blood testing is often done to ensure that the levels of the medications remain even, consistent and stable.
    .

  5. Harrison Ford put a smile on the face of FACES and NYU Langone and of a 'Star Wars memorabilia collector by putting up his Hand Solo jacket for auction. By letting the personal reason for doing this become known, he also put a face to epilepsy for those who are not familiar with it and creating a greater understanding of the disease and its terrible impact on the life of its sufferers and their loved ones. Thank you for this brave gesture, Mr. Ford.

And thank you for posting Joanne's suggestion, Judy.

  6. A fine actor, a good father, and a worthy cause.  Thanks Judi!!
