I’m waiting for Lu to come for my shower.  She’s already over an hour late.  I’ll probably be scarce this week, as it’s 6 days until Infernal Revenue Day, I still have both personal taxes and taxes for my prison volunteer organization to do, and I also have three appointments, and a grocery delivery day this week,

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:02 (average 4:56).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: San Antonio Independent School District Officer Joshua Kehm was captured on video brutally body-slamming a 12-year-old girl who attends Rhodes Middle School.

This is the Republican way to run schools and teach children,

From Alternet: When considering major themes in American history, which he often covers, filmmaker Ken Burns put racism at the top of the list.

I fully agree, but I think we had driven racism into the closet, before the Republican Party adopted it and brought it back into the mainstream.

From Crooks and Liars: Real Time host Bill Maher during his New Rules segment this Friday explains to what’s left of the "sane" wing of the Republican party why they should vote for Hillary Clinton this election cycle and focus on rebuilding their party instead. If we wind up with Clinton and Trump in the general, I expect a lot of the so-called "GOP establishment" will do exactly that.

And a bonus!!

Gotta love Bill!

Republicans consider this a cruel hoax.

  1. School districts should spend more on counselors and less on police and maybe train police to understand nonviolent conflict resolution as a prerequisite to being assigned to a school.

Colbert and Maher do a better job of covering the issues of the day than does mainstream media.

    • With the WY win, using Politico's states where IA is not yet determined (really decided at convention and it was pretty nearly a tie)…Bernie has taken 16 states plus abroad and Hillary 17 states…about one-third left…

  2. I saw that video on the news. It was SICKENING! The way that these "school monitors" treat children today, no wonder they hate cops!!!

I really loved Bill Maher last night!!! Kathy Griffin is a HOOT!!!

  3. Well, you owe me … because I just got you a THREE EXTRA DAYS to FILE YOUR TAXES!

Yep, this year the Deadline is Monday, April 18th!

    That's because Emancipation Day

Emancipation Day, an official holiday in the District of Columbia that usually falls on April 16, is on Friday, April 15 this year — pushing the tax deadline to the following Monday.

But don't take mine or NPR's word – you can confirm it at the IRS Site for yourself.

    You're welcome!

  4. 5:33 (4:56)  Definitely not warm enough where I am to need to get relief from heat by looking at snow scenes.

DKos – Yes.  And, like all Republican ideas, it doesn't work and costs more taxpayer money than ideas which do work.  Third party revenge is a very expensive luxury.

AlterNet – And we can argue until the black and white cows come home whether it was better in the closet or better now.  Personally, I feel if we can't see it, we can't fix it.  Besides, the genie is pretty well out of the bottle now.

Crooks and Liars – I didn't realize Wisconsin and Arizona were considered Jim Crow states – although Arizona has a Joe Arpaio reputetion, I thought Wisconsin really only got bad under Scott Brown.  But whatever.  And you know Republicans are starting to brag about it!  Now that's scary.

Cartoon – They don't quit, do they?

  5. DK: Having worked in schools, I find the video disturbing. There are better ways to handle crisis such as this, rather than the 'hands on' approach by law enforcement. Body slamming students, being thrown on the floor, being tased, or hand cuffed is NOT conducive in a school environment. Anywhere, really. Talking to, and positive remediation works well for students. I do hope that this young lady is all right. I'm sure that the parents are going to file a law suit.

AlterNet: Good video! I'll have to watch this, it's on PBS.

C&L: What Vivian said. It was a great show, and yes, Kathy G., is so funny!

Cartoon: 'At Appomattox, Virginia, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrenders his 28,000 troops to Union General Ulysses S. Grant, effectively ending the American Civil War.' *History Today, they would still be fighting.

Sure hope Lu shows up! Enjoy your evening, and Thanks, Tom.

  6. SAISD Police:  It was THAT necessary to deck her?  JL, they need to spend money on counselling the police!  But, this guy needs to go.

Alternet: Is it a coincidence that this show came so close to the end of the war that the REPIGS would like to do over? Ken Burns and the Jackie Robinson film rock!  Joanne, and "…the genie is pretty well out of the bottle, now," sounds right to me.  SCOTUS REALLY blew it, in 2010!

    Bill Maher REALLY gets it!

  7. I hope Lu got there!

Daily Kos:  Noted that the police officer is on "paid" leave while this is being investigated. With the video clearly showing him assaulting the girl, I fail to see what needs to be investigated.

Alternet:  I agree with you, racism was in the closet before, but now the clown car has released it, and is proud of it.

Crooks and Liars:  They can't impeach her if they don't elect her.  True, and we all know that regardless if either Democrat wins the office, they will be constantly harrassed.

I couldn't get the audio on the second one from Bill Maher.

  8. Puzzle — 3:01  Ski season with tasty repasts before a warm fire are over for you Puddy Tat!

Daily Kos — Un-freaking-believable!  Here that would be classified as child abuse — giving a kid a spanking is considered abuse.  Talk to kids with respect.

Alternet — My paternal grandfather, a baseball nut who almost played pro ball, talked about Jackie Robinson.  To me, there has never been any doubt that racism is alive.

Burns: "The bible, Ecclesiastes, says there is nothing new under the sun.  That means human nature doesn't change …"

I agree.  Individuals may change, but human nature does not.

Crooks and Liars — Punting?  Why not just throw in the towel!  That would be best for the country . . . besides, Republicans are not doing anything constructive!

Cartoon — With the shenanigans of some southerners today, they'd probably say Lee was just kidding Grant.

  9. I don't know how it is for you, TomCat, will being clean, fragrant and fluffy again make you more disposed to do all that tax work? If it does, Lu should come over every day to get you through the worst of it, I think.Good luck with it, clean or not.

DK: That cop must have been so unsure of himself, so badly trained for his job to have to do "what he had to do at the moment". She was knocked out and he continued to arrest her, he really had no clue how to adapt his behavior to the circumstances. But why was he called in in the first place? You call in the police for an anticipated fight and have teenager arrested for that?? The school administration has something to answer for too.

Alternet: Racism may have gone underground in many areas of America, but sadly some things seem to thrive in the dark because it is left unchecked and racism is one of those things, TomCat. It was very easy for the Republicans to tap into those feelings, because they were still strong though covert. Now they are right out in the open.

    Thanks for Bill Maher.

  10. KOS: This 12 year old girl should go to a hospital to have an examination for possible skull fracture, concussion, brain hemorrhage and so forth. The officer should be dismissed from his job and charged with assault and battery on a minor.  Since he is on paid administrative leave, he should be paying for the 12 year old girl's medical bills.

Alternet: Racism reared its ugly head with the help of the GOP ever since they lost the election to Obama in 2008. To this day, Racism is largely alive and well in USA courtesy of the GOP, Tea Party, Faux Noise and their ilk.

C & L: The Supreme Court scrotum 5 knew that racism was not over but they went ahead and gutted the voting rights act led by that racist Scalia. Shame on them and may the scrotum 5 be forever ensconced in the crapper hole of the outhouse forever.

Gov. Scott Walker is largely responsible for bringing the Jim Crow into Wisconsin.

  11. Thanks all!!  Hugs!!
