I’m running late, because I had several tasks to complete this morning, leaving little time to write.  I’m also waiting for a grocery order to arrive and have to put those items away.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:06 (average 5:55).  To do it click here.  How did you do?\

Short Takes:

From NY Times: By law, dating back to 1921, the president of the United States must submit an annual budget request to Congress. On Tuesday, President Obama submitted his eighth and final budget. And like all presidential budgets, it is a statement of values and priorities, a blueprint for turning ideas into policies, a map of where the president wants to lead the country.

This week, even before the president’s budget was released, the Republican chairmen of the budget committees announced they would not even hold hearings with the White House budget director to discuss the proposal.

Their decision is more than a break with tradition. It is a new low in Republican efforts to show disdain for Mr. Obama, which disrespects the presidency and, in the process, suffocates debate and impairs governing.

The dismal consequences of Republican failure to govern has to be blamed on Republicans, not Obama or Democrats.

From The New Yorker: After suffering a poor showing in the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday night, the former Hewlett-Packard C.E.O. Carly Fiorina cheered herself up by firing her entire campaign staff, fired staffers confirm.

Minutes after the returns started coming in, revealing that Fiorina had no chance of making a respectable showing, the former business executive acknowledged that she was “sad at first—but then I realized that every failure is an opportunity, and in this case I had an opportunity to give some people the axe.”

After delivering pink slips to her entire campaign staff, Fiorina said, “I started feeling better already.”

Andy has pegged her heart of stone. People I knew in HP’s research department used to call her the Bankrupt Bitch.

From Crooks and Liars: After the 2016 New Hampshire primaries called Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders the winners, Steve Schmidt came on MSNBC to lend his expert political analysis to explain how this happened. Unfortunately, the former senior John McCain campaign advisor confused Trump’s campaign beliefs with Marco Rubio’s and Rachel Maddow immediately pounced to correct his very flawed opinions.

Barf Bag Alert!!

Isn’t it a blessing to have a moderator, who isn’t afraid to call Republicans on their BS?

  2. NYT: The Repugs are so disrespectful. They whine and complain, and act like bullies on a kindergarten playground when they don't get their way, about anything.

NYer: She's an Ice Queen for sure. LOL, Andy!!

C&L: Love her, good for Rachel!

    Cartoon: I totally agree!!!

Enjoy your evening after you get your groceries taken care of.Take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. 4:38  Wow.  Flashy.

NYTimes.  Wow.  Do you think anyone who doesn't already know will listen to the Old Gray lady and get a clue?

New Yorker – Yes, was glad to see she and PIGnocchio are gone.

Crooks and Liars – They certainly do keep talking, don't thay?  "They think we were once a great country and we aren't any more."  BS.  The truth is they think we were once a WHITE country and we aren't any more.  And that is an extremely good thing, I would say.

Cartoon – Although I believe in reproductive FREEDOM, I have to say he is not the only one.

  4. Carly self-funded her failed CA senate campaign and lost by a landslide with no one willing to donate to her, much like Meg Whitman's failed campaign for governor.  However, unlike Meg, she mistakenly believe that was all it took to be a politician and successful.  I hope she stops reappearing in politics.

  5. 4:19  I fell into the middle of the flower and could not climb out.

  6. "Their decision is more than a break with tradition. It is a new low in Republican efforts to show disdain for Mr. Obama, which disrespects the presidency and, in the process, suffocates debate and impairs governing"  They can't govern, seem not interested in it, at the least.  We have to take back as much of the Senate and House as possible!!!

New Yorker: Is Carly still in it? Even Christie hs had a rare moment of decency, and quit!

Cartoon:  this used to be the line about G.W.Bush; it pertains to McConnell, Boehner, and so many other barely human GOPigs!

  7. Carson? Carson? What in hell does he think he will accomplish by being there? Is he just after the campaign money? Is he that deluded that he thinks he'll somehow score big somewhere? Does he want to be VP? Is he just suffering from Alzheimer's?

  8. Poor Rachel!!! Having to listen to that YUGE bag of hot air for more than two seconds is TOO MUCH!!! He thinks President Obama has taken the country down a slope that is like what Bush did!!!

The drop-puts have finally started to fall!!! And "Baby Body Parts" Fiorina going out with a pink slip for all of her "devoted" staff is just too classy, NOT!!! The Jersey Cow has been tipped over, also!!! What a day! I love it!

The RepukkklicanTs have shown their stripes, AGAIN!!! I guess they are going to put us through a government shutdown one more time!!! How sickening!!! They have no shame!!! I hope ALL RepukkklicanTs incumbents lose their seat in this election!!!

Off to beddy-bye for me! See ya tomorrow, TC!!.

  9. Puzzle — 3:06  Sorry Puddy Tat, but you have to share the limelight today!

NY Times — Last year and the one before, we referred to Congressional Republicans as domestic terrorists for holding the nation hostage over budgets.  This just shows that they haven't changed.  In fact, they are worse. The budget proposes a $10-a-barrel tax on crude oil to help pay for $320 billion in new spending over 10 years on clean-energy transportation projects. — That would mean that their oil & gas honeys would have to pay more tax.  That won't do!  Besides, clean energy is anathema to fossil fuels. The budget would also raise $272 billion over the next decade by closing tax loopholes that let high-income owners of limited-liability companies and other so-called pass-through businesses avoid investment taxes that apply to all other investors. Most of the money would be used to strengthen Medicare’s finances. — Well to start with, Republicans want to get rid of Medicare, so if that is their plan, then why close those loopholes?

The New Yorker — "the Bankrupt Bitch" — Yup, totally bereft of feeling and brains!

Crooks and Liars — Schmidt is an ass.  No wonder McCain lost in 2008.  Maybe Schmidt suggested Palin for VP.  Go Rachel!

Cartoon — Birth control can fail so I am told.  Abortion would have been a better option for Mama McConnell. McTurtle, another Republican ass!

Hope you got your chores done and had a bit of time for a catnap!

  10.  I hope you got all the groceries put away safely.

NY Times:  This is yet another example of the horrid way the Republicans have acted since he was elected.  Their petty little minds forget that they are supposed to be doing the jobs they were elected to do instead of throwing up road blocks to progress at every opportunity.

The New Yorker:  Once again, Andy sounds plausible.  This was the way she handled problems at HP.  I am glad she withdrew.

Crooks and Liars:  Even their "experts" cannot get their facts straight.  Good  for Rachel!

Cartoon:  Thanks for giving me the best laugh I have had today!  And, it is so true!

  11. We should call you Turbulent Cat from now on, TC, you're so busy with all the things you have on your plate. Anyway, good luck with them and don't forget to treat yourself to a restorative catnap.

NY Times: Budget committees refusing to even hold hearings with the White House budget director before the budget was released may be a breach of tradition, but isn't it a breach of protocol too and shouldn't there be consequences to this obstructing Republican move? Nothing much happened in the past seven years in terms of legislature and now the Republicans are (again) making sure that also nothing much is going to happen budget wise this year. And you call yourself a democracy, America?

The New Yorker: Fiorina was the one responsible for thousands of people being sacked after she had made some terrible decisions at HP, so axing her staff after the dismal performance in NH caucus must indeed have cheered her up no end, reminding her of the good old days; and Andy is reporting again.

Crooks and Liars: It looked very much like Schmidt really concurred with Rubio on his anti-Obama stance and was trying to convince the GOP voters that that is what they "truly believed in their core that Obama ruined the country". He repeated it about 3 or 4 times. It didn't seem to matter much that that wasn't Trump's belief, it was obviously Schmidt's personal belief and that overruled his "punditness". So much for objective journalism and thank goodness for Rachel's.

Cartoon: Only for his parents, I hope, TomCat. Mandatory birth control around the time of the Turtle's conception would mean that quite a few of us wouldn't be around ;-p

  12. And now for something different… I can quite understand that the caucuses in the early states are holding America in its grip and would take over the news completely, but although it gets good coverage here in Europe, other news from across the Atlantic also makes headlines, like Supreme Court Deals Blow to Obama’s Efforts to Regulate Coal Emissions We Europeans find this extremely disturbing as this also intervenes with the trajectory agreed upon by the G21 earlier. What are your thoughts on this Republican decision by SCROTUS, TomCat?

  13. Thanks all.  Hugs!!
