Today is another relatively busy day.  I have a grocery delivery coming to put away, volunteer editing to do, meals to prepare, and my helper friend coming to help me wash and change the sheets on my hospital bed.  I did managed to get a full night’s sleep last night, and I needed it.  I still feel tired today.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:42 (average 5:11).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: Take a minute to celebrate and discover these 25 black "firsts" from the last 25 years.

1. First African-American woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress: Halle Berry (2002)

It’s Black History Month. I shared the first Black “first” listed. Click through for the other twenty-four.

From NY Times: The state-appointed emergency manager of the Detroit Public Schools, who had also managed the city of Flint and oversaw its decision to draw its water from the Flint River, resigned on Tuesday, the day before a congressional committee hearing in Washington on Flint’s water.

Michelle Zdrodowski, a spokeswoman for Detroit Public Schools, said the manager, Darnell Earley, had declined to testify before a panel investigating the widespread contamination of Flint’s tap water after the city switched its water source, which led to elevated blood lead levels throughout the city.

On Tuesday evening, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee issued a subpoena for Mr. Earley to testify on Wednesday, but his lawyer, A. Scott Bolden, said Mr. Earley would not be able to appear.

I’m glad this Republican race-traitor lost his job. Rachel Maddow explains why the Republican House hearings are just a smoke screen to protect Sturmbannführer Snyder.

I bet a fiver against a donut that the goose-stepping, sham committee will blame it on Obama or Hillary.

From Crooks and Liars: Rand Paul, the libertarian-minded freshman senator who was once viewed as a formidable presidential contender, is suspending his White House bid on Wednesday, several sources close to Paul told CNN.

I was happy to see that the Clown Car had barfed Upchuck Huck. I’m equally happy to see that it puked Idiot, Son of Idiot, Named after Idiot!

  1. 5:09   Unusual to be actually glad to get the last straw.

Upworthy – I almost never watch the Oscars.  But I saw that moment – and I cried.  And OMG, she was beautiful (not that she isn't still, of course).  Yes, it is a damned shame that most of these dates are so recent.  PBS has an "Independent Lens" episode on Misty Copeland coming up; here it is Monday 2/8.

NY Times – I do note the FBI has entered the game.  Not they the FBI is above corruption, far from it, but at least they understand evidence.  It MAY help.

Crooks and Liars – Good news, yes.  Still lots of bad news still in the car.  Did youo see the NY Daily News fron page "Dead Clown Walking" yesterday?  Very funny, I thought.

Cartoon – A wonderful goal.  I pray we achieve it.

  2. Upworthy:
I don't follow the Oscars as they do little for my movie experiences. Unfortunately, racism does exist even in the Oscars.

    NY Times;
Gov. Snyder needs to resign and start wearing an orange jumpsuit for the rest of his life. The children which were affected by the lead and toxic waters will be damaged for the rest of their lives. Glad that the FBI is on the case but I don't have much faith in them. The GOP-led hearing in Washington, so far, is turning out to be a joke.

    Crooks & Liars:
Not only has Rand Paul, idiot, son of idiot, named after idiot has quit riding the klown kar, so have Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee.

GOP Candidates left  – as of Feb 3 2016, they are: Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Christie, Bush, Fiorina, Pataki, Kasich, Carson, Gilmore.

Kasich will drop out if he does not do well in NH.

My preference is that they all drop out of the race and secede from USA politics.

    Cartoon:
As much as I like the idea of "No More Election Theft", it will continue to happen and occur in many areas, in many states. The GOP is so desperate to take back the White House in any manner, fashion way they can.

    .

  3. Upworthy: Halle is beautiful inside and out. Will Smith is "pleased" that the Academy promises to make changes, but he … but he is still not attending the 2016 Oscars due to the racism controversy nor will his wife, (and others also). *GMA

NYT: Everyone involved in this water crisis should be held accountable. Early should not be allowed to hide behind his attorney either. Gene, I totally agree on your comment re: Snyder. The sooner the better.

C&L: The less the better, imho. Hmm..maybe the clown car will get a flat tire? lol.

    Cartoon: I wholeheartedly agree.

Get your rest, take care. Enjoy your evening, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. I was happy to see that the Clown Car had barfed Upchuck Huck. I’m equally happy to see that it puked Idiot, Son of Idiot, Named after Idiot!  MEEEE TOOOOOOO!

Snyder and associates all need to be seen in BRIGHT ORANGE!

Election fraud will continue, as the GOPigs know that they vcan not win within a fair system.

  5. Get all the rest you need.

Upworthy:  I read the list and was amazed at how little Iknew about several of them.  I read newspapers, watch the news and try to keep aware of current events, makes me wonder how I missed these.

NY Times:  Can Earley decline to answer a subpoena?  I thought that caused jail time, which he richly deserves.  Of course the Republicans will protect Snyder.  He is one of their own.  If they can blame it on Obama or Hillary, they will.

Crooks and Liars:  The only draw back for me is that this gives him more time to run for re-election to the Senate.

Cartoon:  Trump is accusing Cruz of cheating!  How funny!

  6. 2:58  I'm sucking too much air!

  7. I do hope you're taking good care of yourself, TomCat. You're mentioning being tired, even after a good night's sleep, more often and that has me worried. Please give yourself priority above American politics when necessary.

Upworthy: I'm glad you're giving attention to Black History Month, TomCat. It's an area I know virtually nothing about and a great learning experience for me. To my amazement I knew far more people in this list besides the first African-American president, but had never realized they were the first in anything.

NY Times: Kudos again to Cummings for again speaking his mind about these Republican House hearings, as he did about the Benghazi hearing with Hillary Clinton. This Flint one had the same intention: not finding the truth, but putting the blame on the Obama administration. Of course Cummings and Kildee are absolutely right: by not asking "transparency" Snyder to speak before the committee, it is all too clear that the GOP is again protecting one of their own and trying to shift the blame to those who have nothing to do with it. Kildee also made the excellent point that Snyder should get off his $100 million of tax cuts for corporations and send the cheque of $60 million needed to replace the water pipes in Flint there TODAY.  I assume Snyder will hold out on that until the criminal investigations of the FBI get too close for comfort and try to buy some sympathy with this gesture at the last possible moment.

Crooks and Liars: As the creme de la creme of the GOP in terms on candidates in fact is the drags of any other political barrel, it doesn't really matter who leaves the race. In fact, if the worse candidates stay on more people will see what the GOP really stands for and how bad it would be if it ruled the country and as a consequence, how bad it would be for the rest of the world.
Too bad Huckabee's and Paul's sponsors won't spend any more money for our education and entertainment. And too bad for the Democrats of Kentucky, who might see Paul "represent" their state again in Congress.

Cartoon: Wishful thinking, my friend, wishful thinking.

  8. Thanbks all,  Hugs!   I'm swamped!!

  9. KODOS to Trevor Noah,(the new daily show) for calling out re. Marco Rubio.(the self proclaimed National security Expert, and member of the armed services committee,) He does not go to the commitee,s meetings, and has the lowest  attendance record in either houses!.He is,as they say "full of it" and spends most of his time with his financial  adventures! Fit t o be Pres?.God help us. what a phoney..Maybe he should run for something in his home country. CUBA,(although I think that Cuba has suffered enough, and could not  wait to get rid of him .)

  10. That list of firsts and dates indicates how much more is needed for equal rights and opportunities in this country.

Was their intent to help provide Snyder a fall guy?  No matter what authority they think they have, they couldn't grant him immunity from criminal prosecution.

Will the thinned ranks lead to more real journalism regarding the candidates like Rachel has showed her peers how to do?
