Yesterday stayed busy.  After my shower-aide left, Safeway.com delivered groceries, which I put away.  Then my helper friend came.  We did laundry, and I tried on everything in my closet to determine what to keep and what to throw away.  The goal is to make the clothes I wear more accessible.  This morning I spent a couple hours doing volunteer work, researching two potential appointees to the Parole Board.  We want thee board to diversify.  A Board consisting only of Prosecutors, Parole Officers, and Victims’ Rights Advocates insures bias against prisoners, rather than a fair hearing.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:00 (average 4:44).  To do it, click here.  How did you do.

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: In a clip from her upcoming special "Marriage Material," Esposito tackles gun culture.

This is a big take-down of Republican Ammosexuals.

From Daily Kos: Rachel Maddow points out the inconvenient truths about Ronald Reagan as GOP candidates attempt to live vicariously through a misremembered idol. It has been the modus operandi of Republican candidates as they wrap themselves in their parties icon. It is no different than Hillary Clinton wrapping herself in President Obama during the 4th Democratic Debate.

Recently GOP candidates have been attacking President Obama on the deal he made to bring the hostages home from Iran. Marco Rubio told Chuck Todd he would be like Ronald Reagan in dealing with Iran. Unfortunately Rubio is severely misremembering a Ronald Reagan who traded arms for hostages in Iran. He admitted it on national TV. Many of his National Security team were indicted. It was known as the Iran Contra scandal.

This is Rachel’s original video, as the clip included with the article did not embed. Today’s Republicans prefer not to remember either the crimes or the “librul” tax increases perpetrated by Saint Ronnie Ray Gun.

From NY Times: Scientists reported Wednesday that 2015 was the hottest year in the historical record by far, breaking a mark set only the year before — a burst of heat that has continued into the new year and is roiling weather patterns all over the world.

In the contiguous United States, the year was the second-warmest on record, punctuated by a December that was both the hottest and the wettest since record-keeping began. One result has been a wave of unusual winter floods coursing down the Mississippi River watershed.

Scientists started predicting a global temperature record months ago, in part because an El Niño weather pattern, one of the largest in a century, is releasing an immense amount of heat from the Pacific Ocean into the atmosphere. But the bulk of the record-setting heat, they say, is a consequence of the long-term planetary warming caused by human emissions of greenhouse gases.

“The whole system is warming up, relentlessly,” said Gerald A. Meehl, a scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo.

The faster we convert top green energy, the less catastrophic the effects will be.

  1. 4:26  I don't qualify by birth as a lady, but I'd wear it.  If it were fabric and not sticky membranc.  It looks comfy.  If it were fabric.

A variety of daily activities that shows you continuing to get (back) into the swing.  Good news.

Upworthy – Cool.  (I still support arming bears, BTW.)

DKos – So true!  Memory is a bug, not a feature, for a Republican candidate.  It would, however, to be able to indict any candidte who claims he would (do it like Reagan,"  wouldn't it?

NY Times – "The faster we convert to green energy, the less catastrophic the effects will be."  Yes.  Even though it is already to late to prevent some disasters, you are correct.  Four disasters is less catastrophic than five disasters (full disclosure: not actual numbers, and no specific disasters in mind.)

Cartoon – And isn't THAT the truth!

  2. 3:08  I couldn't slip on the Lady's Slipper quite quick enough.

  3. Green energy is the ONLY choice we have now! Between the earthquakes and the climate change, we gotta do something to change the way the future will be for our kids and their kids!

  4. Sounds like you had a very busy day!  I hope you get the appointments you want for the Parole Board.

Upworthy:  I couldn't get good sound on the video, but read some of it on Upworthy.  She is making a valid point in a humerous way, maybe she can get a few to actually HEAR her.

Daily Kos:   The current crop of Republicans has changed history to suit their own ends.  I did not vote for Reagan and did not like him as a President.  I am still stymied at the amount of adoration he gets.  Remember, I worked in the Unemployment office?  During Reagan's term, the lines would be all around the building when I got to work.  Iran-Contra seems to have vanished, too.

NY Times:  Yes, we do need green energy.  That said, I look with sympathy at my neighbors, friends, and relatives who worked in the mining industry and are now unemployed.  I blame our government, federal, state, and local for this.  Our state government is still pretty much owned by the coal industry as are both our senators.  Clinton tried to start some diversity in this area when he was in office.  The Coal Barons fought him off.

    Cartoon:   Yes indeed!

  5. Good to see you so busy with getting your life back on track, TomCat. It may seem trivial what you spend your time on to others, but sorting your clothes out and restyling your wardrobe to fit in with your (dis)abilities is of great importance if you want to live your life as independently as possible. It's also marvelous to hear you're getting back into volunteer work, making sure your guys get the best possible chance in a Parole Board hearing. Kudos to you.

Upworthy: Brave refusal to bear arms for someone who sleeps with a knife beside her because she's afraid to be murdered in the night 😉 I like her own definition of hunting too.

Daily Kos: Where would we be without people like Rachel Maddow and E.J. Dionne who refuse to give the Republicans an easy way out and keep confronting them with the truth whenever they spin one of their Reagan yarns. It must get frustrating after a while, because the Republican base just plugs its ears and refuses to believe the truth, but at least we are again reminded of the facts and the lie doesn't spread any further.

NY Times: I really hope you're right, TomCat, in believing that we can divert even more catastrophic effects from Climate Change if we turn to green energy now, I really do. But I just don't see governments taking the necessary steps to make it happen soon and America isn't even really considering it…

    Cartoon: They did, didn't they.

  6. Thanks all!!  Hugs!!
