Jason Rezaian is being released, Iranian news agency says (aka diplomacy works-hat tip Barbara K.)
http://money.cnn.com/2016/01/16/media/jason-rezaian-released-iran/index.html

Other sources I read said this covers 100% of Americans held by Iran.  I celebrate the difference the diplomatic solution has made.

How Much Do We Hate Our Children?
http://educationopportunitynetwork.org/how-much-do-we-hate-our-children/

I found that this filled out the impacts of children when added to the better known factors of school to prison pipeline with criminalization of kindergartners, child hunger, TX trying to change population used for voting districts to eliminate children from counting (never mind that many become old enough to vote during the decade the districts last) and the anti-abortion frenzy trying to make them be born.

What’s Happening to Failing White Men: Ten Numbers that Explain the Roots of White Male Rage
http://www.chn.org/2016/01/12/whats-happening-to-failing-white-men-ten-numbers-that-explain-the-roots-of-white-male-rage/#.Vplin_krIdU

Does seem to make it make more sense to me and require more complex solutions than most in Congress or on the campaign trail have been proposing.

Minnesota Tech Rising Star 2015: Tyler Skluzacek

http://tech.mn/news/2015/12/29/minnesota-tech-rising-star-2015-tyler-skluzacek-my-bivy/

While I celebrate the increase in the recent budget for Alzheimers research and the special promised cancer research focus from SOTU, we are too far behind on PTSD solutions IMO–I had an uncle with night terrors from WWII who died before anyone had heard of PTSD.

Please express yourself on this sandwich of issues seeking solutions balanced by a couple of solutions to celebrate.

  1. Third time is a charm!  Cross posted to Care2 at:

  2. And Republicans were beating the war drums.

    Elsewhere too.

Republicansd trashed the economy and are propazgandizing white men to blame minorities.

    Good for him!

  3. NIAC (National Iranian American Council) statement includes "Had the administration listened to the opponents and issued brash ultimatums, none of these dynamics would have emerged and in all likelihood the prisoners would not be free."

PBS has a "Raising of America" series going which also highlights much of this, and more.  This article references "schools and school systems that have been abandoned by politicians and by elites who send their kids to private schools and either don’t know what’s happening or don’t give a damn."  I beg to differ.  They DO give a damn – on the wrong side.  They aggressively WANT public schools to fail so that education all the way down to pre-school can be privatized and they, and their buddies, can make a buck.

Please forgive me if I am inclined to interpret that while male statistics along the lines of "White men are suffereng along with everyone else, but, not being accustomed to suffering al all, they think they are suffering more than anyone else."  I do most certainly agree that the situation creates a vacuum for demagogues to step into, which indeed we have seen. The phrase  "require more complex solutions than most in Congress or on the campaign trail have been proposing" is certainly right on the money.

Skluzacek is doing good work.  I'll reserve judgment on what he is going to do with it.

  4. How the Rethuglicans see it:

    NO War?

    NO Profits!

    Your Plan Is a FAILURE!

  5. Failing white men: these are scary stats, and i wonder how much of this is related to the growing impotency of unions, not to mention jobs shipped overseas for corporate profit.

Re:  Your uncle- During, and after WWII they called it "Shell Shock,' and after WWI there was another name, but the understanding of the psychology of trauma did not get going until somewhere after the Vietnam War.  Now, trauma is getting a lot of attention in the MH field, in fact it seems that the attention, and research, is/are exploding! Soory for your uncle's pain,

  6. Jason Rezaian would not have been released if the current crop of Republican candidates had their way.  This shows that diplomacy does work.

How Much Do We Hate Our Children:  Apparently the only children the Republicans care about are those in the womb.  They are decimating every program that helps poor children.

White men who are poorly educated and under employed feel they have no one to represent them.  The current climate of hate seems to feed the way they feel.

  7. Diplomacy works, what wonderful news about their release!

Kudos to Mr. Skluzacek for his research and development of his "mobile app for clinicians’ category for a mobile + wearable combo that can detect night terrors, a severe sort of nightmare associated with physiological responses suffered by those who have experienced major trauma." Absolutely, and yes, Tyler, you and many others, are our Shining Stars and inspiration!

Thank you, JL for your post.

*Edie: I have been having problems with commenting on C2 also. Seems (on my end), that it takes a long time to load a story, and then to comment. Today is fine, but other days it's not. Sporatic.
