The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.
― Albert Einstein

When a poet digs himself into a hole, he doesn't climb out. He digs deeper, enjoys the scenery, and comes out the other side enlightened.”
― Criss Jami, Venus in Arms

I think I like it…how about you?

I think I like this kind of hustler better than those in the first article…how about you?

An 8-part comic for people who say 'I'm sorry' too often. There's something else to say…

I think I need to say thank you more and sorry less—any one else thinking that?

Other musicians scoffed at the web. David Bowie started his own Internet service provider. (especially for Lona)

I think I like Bowie even more knowing this….how about you?

I think it’s long past time to blow up these myths—what do you think?

  1. Upworthy: I think change will always come much quicker if the group that does the harassing (any kind of harassing) takes a good look at it's own behavior and comes up with ways to change that behavior. I've done some change management in my time and when people were made accessory to the process, I ended up with the best and most enduring changes.

Natural Born Hustler: I can't see the videos so I've no answer to your question, Judi.

Sorry: I used to be rather apologetic about myself, often when working in an all male environment, because there men would never apologize for doing something wrong and I could break the ice and get things done by not get hung up about it when I made a mistake, or even took the blame. Nowadays I hardly ever do that anymore, there's no need to as I've grown to appreciate myself a little more as I grew older, but I do thank people often. I've always done that out of simple courtesy and acknowledgement of the other, but young people especially think it strange and don't know how to react to it. Some have even mocked me for it, not having learned to be courteous themselves perhaps.

Thanks for the Bowie article, Judi, much appreciated. I never knew about his ISP and also like him the more for it. Bowie's approach of the internet was so very much like him; he always was more than a musician, he was an artist with an enormous interest span. Internet and interaction with his fans gave him building stones for new projects.

  2. Upworthy: This is a great idea, and women can also participate. Works both ways.

I also try to be more in the category of "Thanking people" rather than apologizing.

Loved Bowie for doing this, and sharing himself to the world.

When I was in the military (Navy Waves), the environment was that we couldn't serve alongside the guys in combat. The Navy opened up rates that were originally male dominated, such as Machinist Mates, Gunner Mates, and Boatswains Mates before I left, just to name a few, (early 70's). However, my daughter who is also a Navy Vet, served on 2 aircraft carriers, did 3 WestPacs, and worked alongside the guys on the flattops. I'm tickled pink for the opportunity of women becoming Navy Seals, or Rangers. It's long overdue, and I know some of my gal pals that can lift just as good as a man.

Great post, Thanks, JL for this.

  3. It is indeed the group with the privilege which needa to take the action.  Without privilege, there is a limit to what one can accomplish.

Reading the comments on site about the Nature series, I wonder if this is another show ("Nature") that is receiving too much Koch brothers (or now, Natilnal Geographic) funds.

  4. Women in battle: "'It's a slap in the face telling us that chicks can do our jobs,' one officer wrote."  so, there is an entire cultural residue, from hopefully bygone days, that calls the women "chicks,"  in the first place.

And this is connected to the "#Check your boys", piece in which cultural issues about how to treat a woman are being hashed out (no pun intended).  This society is still evolving its awareness about sexual equality, slowly, too slowly, but one can't, perhaps, help it, from the time of seeing women s property.

Then, there is that Arabic GAME, "Hasharoosh," if I recall the spelling properly, in which what passes for fun, I suppose, is really sexual assault, culturally allowed!  There is a recent posting about it on C2.  WTF!!!
