RepublicansOnParade2

Here is the seventy-eigth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is retired firefighter Justin Tucker. He is so honored for his Republican suggestion on firefighting technique.

1122dustin-herronOn Friday morning, part of the Quba Islamic Institute in Houston went up in flames, and local firefighters spent over an hour battling the blaze before extinguishing it, saving the institute's school and mosque. The building set ablaze, which stored religious books, was completely destroyed, and came after the center's staff chased off a masked man from the premises earlier this week.

Houston officials believe the fire was set intentionally, and many are calling for this to be investigated as a hate crime. Unfortunately, the hate which likely ignited this fire wasn't just contained to the blaze, for as news of the fire spread, a retired Houston-area firefighter who still (update: no longer) volunteers for Crystal Beach Fire & Rescue posted the following:

1122Burn

This arson attack happened in the wake of the execution of three Muslim-Americans in Chapel Hill, a likely hate crime which has shaken a Muslim-American community already reeling from an uptick in anti-Muslim hate crimes and speech since the premier of American Sniper…

Speaking as a former volunteer firefighter, politics ends at the fire line.  We save lives and protect property without regarding identity or ownership.  For a firefighter to suggest letting a property burn out of bigotry, let alone preventing other  firefighters from doing their duty maligns every firefighter everywhere.  If is so heinous that only one  word is vile  enough to describe it: Republican.

  1. TC, so glad you are back, this is my favorite angering sad, scary, funny weekly post and keeps reminding me why never to stop working to elect NO Repuglicons

  3. We have idiots like this in the world and then someone comes along that really makes a difference like this young boy.  http://www.people.com/article/texas-boy-donates-savings-mosque-targeted-reported-hate-crime

  4. I saw your candidate and agree he's more than deserving of this dubious 'honor.'  No one who takes an oath to serve all should ever suggest some are not a part of the all.

  5. This firefighter definitely deserves a place in the parade, but didn't deserve to be firefighter, so it's a good thing he no longer volunteers. The first thing that sprung to mind when I saw his sickening tweet was that people like him often join the brigades because they are pyromaniacs at heart and not above setting a fire themselves and then put it out in "hero" style.

Next I wondered how many people have given this tweet a thumbs-up then – this happend in Februari this year – and how many people woud have "liked" it now after a week of fearmongering from all sides? I just hope nobody remembers his fireman's advice to block the fire hydrant when the next Mosque or Muslim schools is torched.

  6. The Islamic Center in Pflugerville, Texas is only 29 miles from my house. It does show that neighborhoods and people will come together and unite against this abhorrent behavior. Little ones are so sweet, caring, and honest!

Glad that the fireman was fired. Good riddance!

    Thanks, TC.

  7. I would say "Unbelievable" – except that with today's Republicans it is all too believable.  I haven't seen any followup yet – has he tried to pass it off as a "joke"?

  8. The racist hate roiled by rabid Rethuglican rhetoric now goes totally unchecked by "reporters" – and it's getting damn scary what they're getting away with AND what they're capable of.

  9. Such a jackass!  This is part of the reason why there is so much killing in the world . . . in your face hate.

  10. Jackasses wear every uniform there is.  One can tell what kind of world we'd have if people like this were in charge, fascist.  Elect NO Gopigs!

  11. This firefighter with his bigoted view is sadly a product of the constant hammering from the Republicans and faux news decrying the destruction of our country by those "illegal immigrants"  and "America hating Muslims".  That seems to be all they can report or blather about.  They call themselves Christians, too, which is an insult to any person who really is a Christian.

  12. So glad to see the normal TC posts! Glad you got to get IN a shower. Missed that on the last post.

The anti-muslim wind that is blowing thru our country right now is so repugnant! Or should I say RepukkklicanT! The fire was just a symptom of the racial bias that is eating this country alive! So sad that a person that had worked all those years to retire from a job to be so biased!!! I hope he didn't think that way when he was on the job!!!

Once again, glad to see you are getting back to fighting form, Mr. TomCat!!! Hope you make it home soon!!!

  13. Rushing!  Hugs!
