Bernie in Portland

Last night Bernie Sanders filled the arena, where the Portland Trail Blazers play basketball, and his rally was piped to thousands more, outside the venue.  I received an offer to buy tickets a couple weeks ago, and I was tempted, but from the place where one gets off the MAX train to the best seats is over a mile, and the cheap seats are much further.  So I had to pass.  But I stayed up late last night to watch the video, and I trust you will want to watch it too.

0810BerniePortlandVermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ insurgent campaign for president received a big boost Sunday when as many as 28,000 showed up for a high-decibel rally at the Moda Center.

The crowd packed the basketball arena – with a capacity of up to 19,000 — as thousands more couldn’t get inside and listened in on loudspeakers. A Moda Center official, Michael Lewellen, estimated the crowd at the free event totaled 28,000.

"Portland, you have done it better than anyone else," Sanders said as he opened a speech that lasted a full hour.

Sanders, who has been attracting the biggest crowds of any of presidential candidates this year with his slashing attacks on big corporations and the wealthy, vowed to push for a full range of cradle-to-grave benefits.

The senator received waves of thunderous applause as he vowed to fight for universal health benefits, paid family leave, paid sick leave, free public college tuition, a $15 minimum wage, expanded Social Security benefits and a major public works program to rebuild crumbling infrastructure… [emphasis added]

Bernie should not have been surprised that Oregon leads the way.  We usually do.  Here’s the complete video.  I searched high and low for a transcript, but was unable to find one.  I’m sorry.  Here’s the video.

Are you as impressed as I am?

  1. It's amazing the way the populace are coming out to hear him and they become his supporters. He can win! Yet the media continues to ignore him and treat him as a joke while they treat the actual jokes as legitimate candidates.

    • Patty,

I agree with you 100%! I'm a Californian and myself and my friend are both voting for Bernie! If the stupid Republicans won't work with a Black president, perhaps a progessive White president can get things done! Go Bernie!

      SARA 🙂

  2. I haven't had time to watch it all yet but of course I will.  Probably on full screen.  I would assume there hasn't been time for a transcript anyway.  I cannot imagine Bernie NOT impressing me.

  3. Portland was #Feeling the Bern! He is FANTASTIC! I can’t wait for the primaries to see who will get to run against the Clown Posse!!!!!

  4. Go Bernie  rah rah 🙂

  5. I confess I've been thinking back to the campaign when RFK was killed…that HH lost and yet the platform was anti-war from Mc Govern, RFK and Mc Carthy's delegates (when POTUS and Congress honored official platform positions mostly)…and Daley controlled access to the convention…the flavor of the media ignoring Bernie and party endorsements limited to of Clinton pretty much smells much the same.

  6. Bernie's numbers of his rallies simply boggles my mind. No other candidate, if all of them were to be combined, can match his numbers. It must be that the people prefer to hear Bernie's ideas more so than any of the other candidates of all other parties.

Enjoyed watching and listening to the video of Bernie in Portland, Oregon where the turn-out was between 20,000 to 28,000 people.

  7. If the turn out for him is any indication of how the American public feel, he should get the nomination.  That said, we all know how the process works.  The media will promote whomever they think should get it, and lots of people will never know Bernie.

  8. If I could view the video, I'm sure I would be very impressed. Just the idea that 28,000 people showed up, 9,000 more that would comfortably in the arena, is very impressive indeed.
Bernie's on a roll, but I do hope he doesn't only speak about his socialistic agenda (and yes, that is a very positive thing indeed!), but also of racial inequality and foreign politics. Again, I can't view the video, so I need to rely on my friends here to inform me.

  9. It is about time that the MSM gave Bernie the coverage he so richly deserves!  Bernie is not an also ran!  But I doubt he'll get the coverage because he is "too socialist" for the establishment and it will accentuate that point. Many are still stuck in the '50s, the McCarthy era and equate socialism of any kind with communism, which it is not. Bernie is a social democrat who believes in the people and the country.

The atmosphere in Portland was electric!  But I do wonder, will Bernie still have a voice when he takes the oath of office?

  10. I'm in a big hurry!  Hugs!

  11. What can I say, but this guy is on fire.  Bravo for you Bernie!!!!  Keep doing what your are doing.  We are rooting for you!!!!!

  12. God bless you and protect you, Bernie!
