RepublicansOnParade3

Here is the seventy-fourth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Tea Party member John Russell Houser, shown posing with a Republican symbol he had hung. He is so honored for demonstrating what a crazed Republican Ammosexual can do with gun.

0725RepublicanFlagJohn Russell Houser, of Phenix City, Alabama, posted frequently across a variety of online forums — from political discussions to message boards for Oldsmobile enthusiasts — where he complained about “moral decay” and media brainwashing.

“America is so sick that I now believe it to be the enemy of the world,” he wrote under the name Rusty Houser in a December 2013 comment [Republican Hate Site delinked] on Fellowship of the Minds. “I know next to nothing about Iran, but the little I do know tells me they are far higher morally than this financially failing filth farm.”

The 59-year-old Houser was less active on Facebook and Twitter, although he left behind some clues about his beliefs on those social media networks.

“If you don’t think the internet is censored, try reading a newspaper from a country that hates liberals the way I do,” reads his second — and last — Twitter post, from June 2013. The first argues that “Westboro Baptist Church may be the last real church in America [members not brainwashed].”

His Facebook account shows just two likes — the “I hate liberals!” political organization, which uses an avatar that reads “Stand with Rand,” and the Crossroads Irish-American Festival.

Posts on his Facebook page reveals an interest in limiting women’s influence over the church, a hatred for American culture, and complaints about liberals “brainwashing” Americans into hating their own country…

To be completely clear, to what extent, if any, Houser’s Republican views served as a direct motivation for his shooting spree is unknown, as Rachel Maddow explains in her coverage of him.

However, time and time again, we see Republicans throwing up their hands and saying, "It was mental illness!  We had nothing to do with it!” in response to violence by insane right wingers.  We’ve herd that claim far too often.  When Republicans keep using hate-filled rhetoric to keep the violent extremists they have welcomed into their party stirred up, they also need to take credit when one of the people they helped fill with hate goes off the deep end.  So regardless of Houser’s immediate motivation, his crime was Republican.

  1. I didn't need the photo to tell me he was right wing – though it's always satisfying to be able to say "I told you so."  I truly don't know how it is possible to make a distinction between right wing rhetoric and mental illness anyway.

  2. "What will it take til we know that too many people have died"

  3. But, the Repubs have Jesus on their side, haven't you listened?  I wonder what he would say to them, probably the same things he said to the money lenders and those who wanted to stone the fallen woman.  They use religion to justify every evil thing they do to the rest of us.  This man was obviously filled with hatred, fueled by his right wing associates and media.

  4. From Huff Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/louisiana-gun-control-laws_55b2624ce4b0224d88320359?

"As ThinkProgress pointed out Friday, Louisiana has some of the most relaxed gun control laws in the nation. Police have yet to release information about how Houser acquired the gun used in Thursday's shooting."

In another article I read, Houser was refused a concealed carry permit, but was easily able to get a gun in Louisiana where no permit is required.  Ten years of erratic behaviour culminated in this shooting tragedy and gun laws allowed it.

  5. John Russell Houser was clearly mentally ill these past few years, there's absolutely no rhyme or reason to his thinking and his hatred. Undoubtedly there are just as many progressives suffering from mental illness, although you wouldn't think it looking at the clown car, and I may be biased in my perception, but it seems that they end up far less often.killing themselves after a killing many others first in a shooting spree than their right wing counterparts.

Houser was right to a certain point, though, America is very sick. What he didn't realize that he himself was an expression of that sickness and certainly seemed to have been brainwashed by the media; by Faux News and other right wing media, that is. All his rambling have the mark of Faux News and are just as incoherent and contradictory as his reasoning. Yes, Republicans attract far more deranged people than they will ever acknowledge and in addition to that create the perfect circumstances for the mentally ill to act out whatever hate fantasy they've been entertaining in their damaged heads: Republicans/NRA allow Houser to legally purchase a semi-automatic handgun without questions asked about his history of mental illness. He may not have been able to buy hundreds of rounds of ammunition, but two rounds of 10 shots each were more than enough to kill three and wound seven.

The police stresses the gun purchase was legal, but if I were the partner or parents of one of the people killed or injured, I'd try and start a civil suit against the gun shop owner no matter what. Legislators aren't about to do anything about these incredibly lax laws, so perhaps gun shop owners can be sued into doing background checks on their own accord. Something has to be done to keep all these deranged ammosexuals from killing people whenever their mad Republican fancy takes them.

    • NRA is way ahead of you.  They have got legislaition passed so that if you try to sue the gun shop owner, not only will you lose, but you will have to pay the shop's legal fees, which will bankrupt you.  Hopefully your attorney will tell you that up front while encouraging you NOT to sue.

  6. If anybody knows about mental illness, it would be the Republicans… case in point, Rusty Houser…. and Rand and Cruz and Trump and the list goes on.

  7. Words fail me.

  8. Thanks all.  If only I had bad no opportunity to write that article and the victims were still alive and healthy.
