Strike Three for Medicare?

Jeb Bush, aka Strike Three, has plans, if elected, to unravel the social safety net, so he can finish the job his brother started: to transform the US into a society with two classes: the super rich and the poor.  Tell me if this doesn’t sound like a page right out of Lyin’ Ryan’s playbook.

0724JebJeb Bush, who is being sold to America as the moderate from the almost twenty Republicans now running to be the GOP's presidential nominee, told an audience at a Koch Brothers event in New Hampshire, he's squarely with those that want to dismantle Medicare, one of America's most important safety net programs for the elderly.

On Wednesday, Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush told a crowd in New Hampshire that Americans need to consider ways to "phase out" Medicare.

The former Florida governor, who was speaking at an event hosted by the Koch-brothers supported group Americans for Prosperity, also suggested "people understand" and agree with him on the issue.

"They know, and I think a lot of people recognize that we need to make sure we fulfill the commitment to people that have already received the benefits, that are receiving the benefits," Bush said. "But that we need to figure out a way to phase out this program for others and move to a new system that allows them to have something—because they're not going to have anything."

It doesn't matter to conservatives that the costs of Medicare have been significantly lower than what the experts had previously predicted ten years because their main goal in life is to do away with all government programs that helps its citizens going back to the New Deal.

  1. Alas, the tranformation you describe and deplore (as do I) doesn't have NEARLY as far to go as people who are – here we go again – not paying attention may think it does.  And, yes, it sounds just like Lyin' Ryan.  Also like Ayn Rand.

  2. He plans to continue in his brother's footsteps.  Without Medicare the majority of our Seniors would have no medical coverage at all.  There are co pays and deductibles all ready that breaks the bank for a lot of our elders.   Shew, we DON"T need another Bush.

  3. Bush and his cronies would throw seniors and the disabled under the bus rather than ensure that a valuable social programme is properly funded and maintained.  Tax the 1%, corporations, and those with incomes over $200,000 at appropriate rates and there wouldn't be this issue of "running out of money".  Personally, I don't think it is so much a case of running out of money, but more of redistributing more to the 1% and corporations.  Bernie has the numbers on this and I trust him to have the facts tto back up his stance.

  4. I suppose Jeb's right, some ""people understand" and agree with him on the issue." Some people like the elderly Koch brothers. But others see exactly where this is going: the confiscation of money that people have been paying into a healthcare fund for years and years: Elderly woman rips Jeb in townhall: "I paid into that for years – now you want to take it away?”

I really think the Democrats have te be very wary of all the commotion Donald Trump is causing with his over-the-top statements and the even more over-the-top reactions of the others in the clown car. Jeb's sponsor are also their sponsors and it seems they've thought out this plan to throw a lot of money at all all these other buffoons who are willing to outdo each other in catering to the very narrow rabid base, in effect throwing them under the bus to make Jeb come up as the only "reasonable" candidate. I think Democrats should stop wasting energy, time and money on all the other candidates and focus on Jeb and his disgusting agenda. He's the one the Kochs and their Ilk really want to see in the Whitehouse again.

    • I projected the same earlier.  Jus like in 2012, when the ones who seem most extreme are done picking each other off, the one who is just as extreme, but hides it best, is left: Littlew Lord Willard then, Strike Three now.

  5. Bush and the rest of them will never stop. I guess that after we reach retirement age we are just supposed to lie down and die because we have outlived our usefulness to society. Why are they keeping his father alive then? He does nothing for anyone except wrack up medical bills.

    • We have outlived our usefulness haven't we?  NOT!!!!!

Who has the time to work with kids having difficulty in school?

Who has the patience for example to sit with a child as they learn to read?

Who can help a child develop their creative side?

Parents are working, sometimes 2 jobs or more!  A parent in a single parent household has major time stressors and may not be able to spend as much time with children for anything.  Parents can be stressed just trying to keep things going.

Seniors can help by being a surrogate grandparent.  I do and I know it takes the pressure off.  I have spent time working with a grade 7 girl doing math and French.  I've spent time with a 4 year old learning her ABC's and how to use a computer mouse (by doing certain jigsaw puzzles).

There may be snow on the roof, but under the snow is the warmth of a lifetime of experience, learning and wisdom!

  7. Let's be clear: No matter what he says, Jeb Bush is not a moderate. Scratch just beneath the surface of his carefully crafted image and Bush's frightening extremism emerges.

  9. Thanks all.  Strike Three must stay OUT!

  10. Thanks Jim.  Dumya got a pass on many things because he was so unintelligent and at least some things Cheney did without him being fully informed.  Jeb may be a little brighter and intentionally try not to know the nefarious details of what he sets in motion through others.
