I’m waiting for my helper friend to arrive and do some heavy duty cleaning.  I’m still feeling quite worn out.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:52 (average 5:09).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: The National Low Income Housing Coalition’s annual housing report has been released and it once again shows the dramatic divide between average housing prices and income in the United States.

In order to afford a modest, two-bedroom apartment in the U.S., renters need to earn a wage of $19.35 per hour. In 13 states and the District of Columbia they need to earn more than $20 per hour. The Housing Wage for a two-bedroom unit is more than two and a half times the federal minimum wage of $7.25, and $4 more than the estimated average wage of $15.16 earned by renters nationwide.

Take a look at the NLIHC maps to see how your state stacks up:

0602-2Bedroom

It’s more than just one wage slave can afford.

From Alternet: On Sunday, the NSA briefly stopped the bulk collection of metadata after certain provisions of the Patriot Act temporary expired.

Freed from the fetters of NSA eavesdropping, Jon Stewart took advantage of his free speech rights, gleefully whipping out a landline and shouting, "Penis penis penis!"

To Jon’s clarion call, there can only be one valid response, "Vagina, vagina, vagina!"

From Raw Story: Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee joked that he wished he was young again — so he could pretend to be transgender and watch girls shower in locker rooms.

Who says Upchuck Huck was joking? It’s a rare moment, when a Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christian Presidential candidate tells the truth like that!

  1. Huckabee said he wished he had lied & claim to be transgender so he could shower w/ high school girls?

Boy, he's got a lot perve!

  2. 2:41  The little bird is saved from the nefarious machinations of that Puddy Tat!

  3. 4:26 average still 5:09.  Darned good painting – it really looks photographic.  Too bad they didn't credit the artist.

Daily Kos -Yes.  And I would undoubtedly be stuck paying that kind of rent today were it not for blind dumb luck, which presented me with the opportunity to buy cheap, and later additional opportunities to improve the contract.  I didn't build that.

Alternet – Oh, I don't know, I kind of liked "Stop doing that, it's weird."  But seriously – we definitely need a Democratic President and a Democratic Congress so we can put paid to this nonsense and set all those eavesdroppers to work rebuilding our infrastructure and supplying non-fossil-fuel energy instead.  They might even earn enough for a two-bedroom apartment.  Wouldn't that be nice.

Raw Story – Oh, Mike, it's not too late!  You can pretend to be transgender now if you want!  But I warn you, since transgender is a real thing, and professionals understand and csn recognize it, if you aren't really transgender, you WILL be caught.

Cartoon – Would that all our Republicans would turn on each other the way Robespierre turned on the aristos.  Oh, wait – I think they are – let me rephrase that – would that they had guillotines to do it with.

For those of who cannot access Jon with the links provided,
try this link via Hulu. It's free.

  5. Daily Kos:  according to this graphic there are no states where a person making minimum wage can afford  a decent place to live.  This is disgraceful, yet the same people who can't afford a place to live will vote for the Republicans who continually vote down a raise in minimum wage.

Alternet:  From what I heard on the news today, the NSA will probably be collecting meta data again soon.  This is the only thing I have agreed with Rand Paul on, ever.

Raw Story:  Huckabee trying to prove he is a "good old boy" is slightly disgusting.

Cartoon:  Don't we have a few poliiticians and right wing evangelists who would like to have that power?

  6. Puzzle — 2:41  The little bird is saved from the nefarious machinations of that Puddy Tat!

Daily Kos — With a federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, a single person would have to work a minimum of 2 fulltime jobs just to have a roof over their head and adjusting for a single bedroom.  I remember looking into renting an apartment with a friend back in the very early 70's.  We earned $250/mth before income taxes each.  We had to scuttle any thoughts of renting even a one bedroom apartment because our salaries would not cover it.  To still have this going on is disgusting! . . . and should not be!

Alternet — "To Jon’s clarion call, there can only be one valid response, "Vagina, vagina, vagina!"" . . . unless of course you're a sitting Congress critter and then that clarion call is silence!

Raw Story — As I said above, "No wonder he supports Josh Duggar!"  Is the Huckster a card carrying member of the human race?  I don't believe so . . . he's imitating, rather poorly, a POS!

Cartoon — . . . and on 20/01/2015, the Republicanus/Teabaggerum initiated the latest chapter of their Reign of Terror in Washington, DC!

  7. TY TC – up to my ears at the moment – will try and comment later if I can, sorry….

  8. I suppose you'll be even more worn out after the heavy cleaning, TomCat, if your friend turned up, that is. Leave your battle station for a while and take a catnap.

Daily Kos: It was very interesting to see that the picture changed somewhat when the number of hours a person needed to work on a minimum wage were drawn in. Renting in Washington state suddenly became more affordable because the minimum wage is so much higher than in the southern states, where housing became unaffordable in almost all states if people had to live on one minimum income. There just weren't enough hours in a month to pay the rent on a minimum wage income. Single parent households can't rent in Red states (and sadly in too many Blue states too) on a minimum wage full time job and need welfare to assist. But weren't many of those Red states the ones who want to cut down on food stamps and welfare or limiting it to a year? And then make being homeless a crime too, I suppose. Have people in those states gone collectively mad? Next they'll be reintroducing slavery again.

Alternet: Republicans fighting among themselves, a number of provisions of the Patriot act expired and no terrorists acts happened: seems like Congress closed off May rather well this year.

Raw Story: Mike Huckabee apparently hasn't finished destroying the little chance he had in the race for the presidency. After continuing to stand by child molester Josh Duggar, this "little quip" intended to put transgender people down, made a fool of all men by portraying them all as devious peeping Toms, lusting after  the sight of naked women and doing anything to get a peep. Yes, real presidential material.

  9. Thanls all.  Hugs.  It's a crazy day here.

  10. Why would he even say that if he wasn’t thinking of doing that? Seems like a real wackado thing to put out there for someone running for the highest office in the land!!!!!
