I’m still quite tired after doing the dreaded task and another noisy night, but I did get some daytime sleep yesterday.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:06 (average 4:58).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Notoriously addled butt munch Pat Robertson took a question today from a woman worried about her 11-year-old son who "started listening to music that speaks of the ‘beast within’ and the ‘infection in people.’" Consequently, his behavior has this poor woman "to the point of me giving up trying to parent him." Thank goodness she took her concern to that master oracle of parenting advice, good ol’ Pat.

Barf Bag Alert!!

Robertson remains the poster boy for Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christianity (the exact opposite of authentic Christianity).

From The New Yorker: Delivering a stirring populist message at a campaign appearance in New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton vowed that as President she would help everyday Americans obtain large cash payments from foreign governments.

“Like a lot of everyday Americans, many of you are struggling to pay your bills,” she told an audience here. “As President, I will work tirelessly to help you make ends meet—by getting foreign governments to pay you.”

“In cold, hard cash,” she added, to a standing ovation.

Growing emotional, the former Secretary of State spoke of the “transformative power of foreign money,” calling it “nothing short of magical.”

Andy is back to satire for a change. The people behind the foreign money meme have a repeatedly demonstrated resume as liars.

From Alternet: Forget the top one percent, the top 0.01 percent of Americans gave nearly 42 percent of all political donation dollars in the 2012 election cycle. Just over 30,000 individuals contributed nearly half of all money. It is no coincidence that this proportion has increased steadily as economic inequality has increased. In 1990 when I was born, the figure was just under 13 percent. If we expanded the scope to the full one percent, you can be damn sure they gave the overwhelming majority of dollars in recent years.

And don’t forget that this does not even include the $billions more in secret donations to bogus Republican 501(c)4 organizations.

  1. 4:58 average 5:09.  Paper can't be very tasty.  Although if it were a live rabbit the fat content would be off the charts.

Daily Kos – Pat is also a poster boy for "Only the good die young," along with John McCain.  Why anyone would listen to him is beyond me.  That kid should call Social Services, request to be removed from the home, and get placed with someone human.

New Yorker – Whereas she FINALLY went on record as supporting a Constitutional Amendment to erase "Citizens United."  Better late than never.

Alternet – Well, what can I say except vote, vote, vote like a baby stoat.

Cartoon – Well, we are certainly seeing things now which led to the collapse of the Roman Empire.  Not that i would grieve the monster the American Empire has become, but the problem is, when empires collapse, it's ordinary people who get hurt the most.

  2. 2:46  Because my birthday is around Easter, my mother often made bunny cakes — chocolate with neverfail vanilla icing, coconut for fur, licorice for whiskers, and gumdrops for eyes.  No yellow bunnies though!  They were always so good!

  3. Puzzle — 2:46  Because my birthday is around Easter, my mother often made bunny cakes — chocolate with neverfail vanilla icing, coconut for fur, licorice for whiskers, and gumdrops for eyes.  No yellow bunnies though! They were always so good!

Daily Kos — "…you violent authoritarian windbag." — Too bad he didn't get as good as he gave! Good thing he wasn't in Canada because "Big Daddy’s home! Wham!" would have seen him arrested for child abuse!

The New Yorker — "Foreign governments"?  Would that be the Republicanus/Teabaggerum governments that support the offshoring of jobs and the dissolution of the middle-class?

Alternet — Time to overturn Citizens United, reform campaign finance policy and put very strict limits on campaign contributions!  Money is not free speech!

Cartoon — And the fall of the Roman Empire, although protracted over some 200 years and as a result of many events, happened 4 September 476 CE (Gibbon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decline_of_the_Roman_Empire). Empires of various sizes have come and gone since.  Some experts think that the end of the American Empire is nigh based on some of the complexities of the Roman decline.

  4. Does someone pay Pat for how often he gets in the news or something?

Why should a foundation like the Clinton Foundation doing much of its work in developing nations only accept money from the US anyhow?

The more people cut the funding data in different ways for additional pictures of it, the worse it looks for the ordinary citizen.

    • That's the point.  They have been tking money for charity.  Republicans, on the pther hand, are up to theior tusks in foreign money.

  5. I got over 7:00. I just can’t seem to get it to work any faster on my phone.
I couldn’t bring myself to watch Pat Dumberson! I just can’t look at that prudish prune!
Andy was back and it was great!
    Take care, TC

  6. Daily Kos:  I find it amazing that anyone still listens to Pat Robertson.

The New Yorker:  Satire, yes, but we all need to remember how much foreign money is being pumped into our elections, down right scary.

Alternet:  At the rate we are going, there will be only serfs and masters left in our country, thanks to Citizens United.

I hope you get some rest soon.

  7. Daily Kos – we knew he was a vile old man, but now he happily admits to child abuse!  ARGH!!

New Yorker – shouldn't it be one of the Repuglican hopefuls in this piece, as they would love foreign money!

Fall of the Roman Empire – part of it (the Eastern part) still staggered on in Constantinople till 1453 (getting smaller and smaller as time went on).   I saw a very good Roman history documentary that spent a few minutes out of the hour long programme interviewing a coach party of American history teachers who had come to see the Rome that they had been teaching about for years, and they all said that the modern day America was like the last days of the Roman Empire – corruption, vastly wealthy people desperate to get even more wealthy, decay of intrastructure, abuse of privilage – the list went on and on.  That documentary is 10 – 15 years old – and things have got even worse.

  8. Daily Kos ~ It is beyond my ken how the FCC allows him to remain on the air while advocating for child abuse.

New Yorker ~ Good one, Andy!

Alternet ~ They have no problem buying candidates. It's taxes that bother them.

Cartoon ~ Happy B'Day to the extinct Roman Empire.
