Liz and Bill Get Together

It’s a rare treat when I get to see two of my favorite people together in the same venue, so I’m more than pleased to share a clip from Elizabeth Warren’s appearance with Bill Maher.  Bill actually tried to play it straight, but he can’t help being a little bit funny anyway.  Enjoy!

The senior Senator from Massachusetts visited the set of Real Time this Friday and failed to take the bait when offered a million dollar donation if she won the Democratic 2016 nomination by host Bill Maher.

Maher spoke to Warren about a variety of subjects, including what it’s been like working in the Senate now that the Republicans have taken over, and the fact that even though their rhetoric has changed, they aren’t willing to actually put their money where their mouths are and do anything that will improve the lives of the working class, such as raising the minimum wage or getting college tuition costs under control.

He wrapped things up by trying to persuade her to throw her hat into the ring for 2016, but didn’t have any more luck than the groups that have been trying to get her to run for some time now…

That was a class act!

  1. That is a great example of the servant leadership our founding fathers envisioned for Congress.  Thanks TC

  2. JL A, that is absolutely right on.

Carrie B (Care2), a lot of people are coming around to your way of thinking.  Me?  I was already in that choir.  Gene J of Care2, who weighs in here from time to time, is possibly the most articulate on the subject.  He hasn't posted yet today here, but I hope he will.  But even in the comments just below you, there is a strong trend in that direction.

As I said on the Open Thread, the videos must come later today for me.

  3. Great interview.  The last thing she said is so true.  It is up to the grassroots to join together and make our voices heard, and get out there and VOTE!  That is the only way we will  have change.

  4. Elizabeth Warren

". . . I truly believe in grassroots.  I believe in what we can do by linking up together.  I believe in the power of what we can do to build a country together . . . a country that works for all of us . . . our country's on the line, our democracy is on the line, our future is on the line . . . "

    Amen!!!

Like a lot of people, I said Warren in 2016 but I have changed.  Right now I think she is best in the Senate pushing for the people.  And of late, with Harry Reid`s retirement announcement, maybe Warren would be good at bringing the Democrats back together with their ideological roots — the people — as Minority Leader, rather than having Chuck Schumer.

  5. Thank goodness Bill Maher's network allows non-Americans to watch their videos – thanks TC!  I do love Elizabeth Warren – and Lynn and others are correct, if she lead the Democrats, then perhaps the tide would turn and people would see someone they could believe in and follow – someone who is reforming politics from the inside.

If the grassroots would only lead (and fund) the Democratic Party, then at last people would get the representation they deserve!

  6. She is like Bernie Sanders, she stays on message. These messages have to be said over and over again as too many people hear the incorrect messages and drink that kool aid. As much as I'd like to see her run, she isn't, I didn't even get in on the Run Elizabeth Run campaign…..I took her word for it……for she has been a woman of her word.

She is doing a wonderful job in the Senate, her voice IS being heard beyond MA, so we've got her in there fighting. Running for President means taking a lot of time away to concentrate on doing just that, running for President and raising the money. The Dem's have been pretty set on Hillary, as much as I really don't feel she is Progressive enough, it appears the Washington insiders and other well oiled machines is going to back her.

We could see this from years ago…..the Clinton dynasty vs another Bush dynasty. Sigh. How old are all of the children……do hope we don't have to rotate through all of them as well. Wasn't it a long time ago that a lot of people didn't want to live under a monarchy. And actually those are just the puppets dancing on the stage of an updated Punch and Judy show. The REAL power is behind the scenes, and Elizabeth mentioned one name of Sheldon Adelson.

  7. As I've said before, I LUVS me some Elizabeth Warren.  I'd be ecstatic to be able to address her as "Madam  President" – but since we all know that's not going to happen for the next eight years, I'm happy to have her in the Senate, where's she's been very effective.

If you haven't already, I would encourage you to read her book "A Fighting Chance".  I had to wait quite a while for it to become available at the library (a good sign) – but it's well worth the wait!

  8. She is the voice of reason for the Democrats. Now, if they would only listen to her. The people have  to wake up and stop voting the regressive Rethugs into office.

  9. Thanks and amen to all!
