Liz on Hillary

Even though she has not yet formally announces, it seems increasingly apparent that it will soon be time to hold my nose and support Hillary Clinton, because her Republican opponent will be  infinitely worse.  At least I can take comfort in the knowledge that someone I love and respect seems to feel the same way.

0409Elizabeth_WarrenSen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) gave less than full-throated support to Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday, days ahead of Clinton’s expected entry into the 2016 presidential race that some Democrats to Clinton’s left want Warren to also join.

Asked whether Clinton is the "future of the Democratic Party," the Massachusetts senator hedged.

"Well, I think we have to see, first of all, if she declares, and what she says she wants to run on," Warren said on CBS This Morning. "I think that’s really the interesting question at this point.”

That sounds far short of an endorsement from the political figure who has emerged as the darling of the Democrats’ progressive wing. Warren has repeatedly said she will not run in 2016, and has made no clear moves toward a reconsideration of that stance. Still, a persistent group of disaffected Democrats is urging Warren to challenge Clinton from the left…

Here’s the video.

Our best hope is that Warren can help mold public opinion sufficiently to force Clinton to represent us.

  1. Warren will be on Bill Maher Friday 4/10/15.

  2. I was one of the ones who wanted Hillary in 2008.  Since then, however, I have seen that the issues I wanted here for did not represent all her positions on all issues.  Having seen more, I am less enthusiastic (OK, that's throwing roses at it).

I cannot emphasize enough that the key to accomplishing our goals is to put in the best possible Democrats at ALL levels of government.  Our House Representatives, our Senators; our state house representatives and state senators (if the state has two houses – they don't all); our county and municipal officials – our governors if they are running and any state executive oficers who are elected – our judges if we vote for them, and those who appoint our judges if they are appointed – we MUST vote the whole ticket.  Colorado Democrats didn't in 2014 and thus damaged the Governor's ability to be a Democrat (and failed to provide him the challenge he needed when he leans right on his own).

ALEC and other PACs are dumping more money into states and loacl elections that ever before – and I remind all that "ever before" already brought us "Stand Your Ground" and a host of other abominations.  Chevron dumped thousands – if I remember correctly it was close to a million – into the City of Richmond – which was small enough and smart enough to defeat their goals THIS TIME.  We can't count on that happening again.

I do realize the "best possible DEmocrats" will include some DINOs.  That's just the way it is.  But even so, the best possible Democrats will be preferable to less than the lest possible.

That said, not having cable, I can't see Bill Maher on TV, so I hope someone will post it or a link to it – by which I mean the pertinent part of his show with Liz.

  3. I'm glad Liz isn't showing enthusiasm for Hilary

  4. I want whoever will keep the Republicans out of the White House. For now, that seems to be Hillary. While she may be too conservative to our taste, she is absolutely qualified to be President.

But maybe somebody else from the Dems (or Indies) will rise out of the fray. If that happens, we'll all need to assess our positions at the Primary level. When general election comes, anybody who sits out not satisfied with Hillary might as well vote for Ted Cruz or not vote at all.

  5. Just want to make sure that there is never another repukkklican in the Oval Office! Never, ever, ever again!

  6. I preferred Obama over Hillary back in 2008 because she seem to think she was entitled as if she left her brain at home and was think more about herself.  I think she has learned a hard lesson.  So I will vote for her she is more than qualified than anyone on the right.  Sure I would love it Warren was going to run.  But she will not.  The clowns on the other side will be putting out so much propaganda on her. The $ amount will be over the top.  Who better to go head to head with the republican/tea party?  We can not just let them get back in the White House.  Anyway I don't see anyone close to Obama that is willing to run.  My only fear when Hillary wins she does not go above herself and forget about the American people.( I hear she may make an  announcement on Sunday)  If she does I would really would like to know who her VP will be.

  7. They tried really hard to get her to say something derogatory about Hillary, she was too smart.  I wanted Hillary in 2008 because I felt she had more knowledge and experience than Obama.  I am not so sure that I still want her, given that so many of her positions align better with the Republicans than the dems.  That said, if she is the Democratic nominee, I will vote for her.  The Republican party is offering no one I would consider voting for, and the party is certainly not the party of Eisenhour.

  8. Edie, I noticed that as well "They tried really hard to get her to say something derogatory about Hillary, she was too smart."  Push as they might, Liz Warren is astute and a class act not looking to divide.

A Hillary White House is a million times better than a Republicanus/Teabaggerum White House, and with Warren in the Senate, she could be in a position to prick Hillary`s conscience.  Nothing like a burr under the saddle to get a horse moving!

  9. TY TC –  I do love and respect Elizabeth Warren, and it is so nice to see that she is holding firm to her intelligence and her principles – I only wish that we all, throughout the world, had representatives like Elizabeth Warrne and Bernie Sanders…..

(Also Hillary approves of fracking despite the damage it does and the horrendous horror of it damaging the rock strata which contain a lot of our water supplies, and she seems to approve of GMOs – she seems like 'Republican-lite' to some of us…).

  10. I wish  she would run but she will probably be more effective in the Senate. People are listening to her. I think that's why she didn't endorse Hillary yet. Liz was on Jon Stewart last night. Watch here. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2015/04/elizabeth-warren-to-jon-stewart-every-law-protects-the-tender-fannies-of-the-rich-and-powerful/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheRawStory+%28The+Raw+Story%29

Bernie is seriously considering a run now.

  11. Thanks all.  Lety me reiterate.  No matter how much I dislike Hillary's corporatism, compered to the best Republicans in the clown car,. she walks on water.
