Yesterday my Store to Door driver’s route changed, and he got lost.  As a result, my grocery delivery was around four hours late.  He did not het here until after five PM.  Forcing myself to stay up and put them away caused a minor relapse, and I’m staying down.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:38 (average 5:02).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

  1. 3:51 average 5:02.  Good luck, hungry kitty (just don't choke on the bones).

OK, I grant this was from a fund-raising email, but it's just too well written not to share:

The moon over Washington was blood red. The Ghost of Foul-Ups Past emerged from his cave. Stroking a hairless cat named Halliburton, he moved silently through the roomful of lobbyists, plutocrats and fat cats, his cape trailing in the mist. Though crowded, the room was suddenly cold, chilled from the icy presence of former Vice President Voldemort. As he stood atop the podium to address his minions, flames shot from his fingertips and sulfur steamed out of his nose. His eyes glowed red as he inhaled deeply, sucking in the souls of every man and woman in the room, turning them into his private malevolent army of flying monkeys.

At least that's what I imagine the Dick Cheney fundraiser for House Republicans Tuesday night was like.

… PS: If for some reason you can't spare even a few bucks, do yourself a favor: put some garlic on your nightstand. You never know when Cheney will fly again.

  2. I liked that one, too, Joanne.

I suspect that law is why eastern tribes have had so much difficulty getting official recognition as a tribe.

  3. 2:36  Put the salt away Puddy Tat!  No warbler fricassée for you tonight.  Damn, you set a blistering pace . . . I thought I wasn't going to be able to defend the pretty birdie!

Cartoon — A shameful day indeed!  But it wasn't the last.  The Trail of Tears  describes the forcable removal of First Nations people from territories east of the Missippi River.  Wikipedia "…the Indian Removal Act of 1830 the American government began forcibly relocating East Coast tribes across the Mississippi. The removal included many members of the Cherokee, Muscogee (Creek), Seminole, Chickasaw, and Choctaw nations, among others in the United States, from their homelands to Indian Territory in eastern sections of the present-day state of Oklahoma."  There was a further removal in May 1838 as a result of the Treaty of Echota.

  5. Well, I don't have GPS – but then I don't make deliveries either.

Four hours late – does that generate a discount or credit of some type?  How many perishables to you have in a typical order?  Or is the truck refrigerated?  In which case (like in MOST of what I write) you can ignore the above rant.

And WRT your minor setback – few graphs are a straight line, so don't feel bad when you have some valleys – there'll be a peak coming up soon enough.

  6. And the Native Americans keep getting screwed. This happened just last year in December, 2014.

Defense Bill Passes, Giving Sacred Native American Sites To Foreign Mining Company

The measure was added into the NDAA largely thanks to the efforts of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)

Resolution Copper Mining Method will eventually destroy the sacred lands.

White House Petition and White House response:

    • Jim, I wish I had seen this petition earlier, I would have signed it.  Our treaties are worthless to the original owners of this country.

  7. Stay down until you are well.  I would complain to the Store to Door people, too.

Cartoon:  So much was lost when these people were forced to leave their homes.  The Cherokee nation had a library in Tennesse that was deliberately flooded, with no books removed, to build a dam.  That would have been an incredible resource for the Cherokee and for the rest of us.  It seems they are getting no better treatment from our government now than they did then.

  8. Thanks all.  Still sick.

  9. They then earn a hearty "Thanks for volunteering to help out our good friend!" from me.

And good to hear the perishables came through unscathed.

  10. Poor TC – so glad that they are volunteers, God bless them – but perhaps some kind charity sponsor could give them a GPS system to save the energy of those they are trying to help.

  11. Cartoon – clearly Congress didn't regard the Native Americans as equal human beings to themselves did they?  It breaks your heart to think about it.
