Under no circumstances do I feel well enough to be writing articles, but I need to let folks know that I’m alive and celebrate the holiday.  By using old Andy items as Short Takes, I get to duck doing research.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:54 (average 5:10).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: The North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un said on Tuesday that he feels “snubbed” by the decision of forty-seven Republican senators to write a letter to Iran but not to him, the official North Korean news agency reported.

In an unusually forthcoming interview with the Korean Central News Agency (K.C.N.A.), Kim said it was “hurtful” that the Republicans would send a letter to one of the United States’ most longstanding enemies while “totally snubbing” another.

“Let’s just call it what it is: they’re playing favorites with enemies,” Kim said. “I try not to take things personally, but it’s hard to see them sending letters to Iran without feeling a little bit hurt.”

Andy missed the boat on this one. Kim (R-NK) continues to set an example for his fellow Republicans, so they have no reason to threaten him.

From The New Yorker: Hoping to quell the controversy over e-mails missing from her private account, the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday released twenty thousand spam e-mails she received from Old Navy.

“In an effort to be transparent, I have gone above and beyond what is required of me by law and released every last e-mail I received from this retailer,” she told reporters. “Now I think we can all consider this case closed.”

The e-mails reveal an extensive one-way correspondence between Clinton and Old Navy, as the retailer sometimes contacted her up to a dozen times in a single day to inform her of sales and other offers.

“This is one of the main reasons I set up a private e-mail account,” she said. “I did not want spam from Old Navy clogging up the State Department servers.”

Dang Andy! All she got from Old Navy was a dozen a day? That’s well under their norm for SPAMMING, and they’re nowhere near as bad as the DCCC!

From The New Yorker: After a challenging week for the legislative body, the approval rating of the United States Congress has shrunk to a point where it is no longer detectable by the technology currently available, a leading pollster said on Friday.

Davis Logsdon, who heads the highly regarded Opinion Research Institute at the University of Minnesota, said that his polling unit has developed highly sensitive measurement technology in recent years to gauge Congress’s popularity as it fell into the single digits, but added that “as of this week, Congress is basically flatlining.”

“At the beginning of the week, you could still see a slight flicker of approval for Congress,” he said. “Then—bam!—the lights went out.”

Logsdon said, however, that people should resist drawing the conclusion that Congress’s approval rating now stands at zero. “They may have support in the range of .0001 per cent or, say, .0000001 per cent,” he said. “Our equipment just isn’t advanced enough to measure it.”

Andy, the technology to measure Republican approval does exist. It’s called a KASHIT detector.

  1. Thanks for all the AB giggles TC.

Cartoon makes me think the GOP has become adrenaline junkies where they can't face voting on things that are solidly good governance or easy bipartisan solutions and thus anything that would be must be transformed into either a cliff-hanger or going off the cliff threat to feed their addiction.  Wish we could find them effective treatment but first we'd have to get them past the denial stage.

  2. Love the articles TC – please continue to recover, don't tax yourself too early and suffer a relapse!

  3. Great cartoon!  Funny, funny Andy, especially the one about Congress – Too bad they don't care if nobody likes them…

  4. Cartoon: Reminds me of the "lemmings"…

  5. That's a GREAT cartoon!

Just saw where Aaron "Downton Abbey" Schock (R-IL) is resigning.  You just KNOW there's more than skeletons in THAT closet that were going to "come out."

    • PS – I couldn't care less WRT his orientation.  It's his Repubican hypocrisy that's galling.  Not to mention his unethical behavior.  And I do think there were plenty more shoes to drop (and I'm sure they were all FAB-U-LOUS shoes)

    • a Schock Jock!!

  6. 4:22 average still 5:10.  JigZone is usually all over holidays – wonder how they missed St. Patrick's Day.

New Yorker I – You know, it has to be tough having the mind of a two-year-old with physical ailments more characteristic of people in their seventies.  Not that that is an excuse for idiocy.

New Yorker II – Someone suggested putting Hillary's emails side by sife with those of Condoleeza Rice.  Now that would be a spectacle.

New Yorker II – That's about true.  A new Gallup poll states that government is now Ameericans' biggest fear, surpassing terrorism for the first time.  I wouldn't want to claim that the responses are well presented nor that they paint an accurate picture – I am just throwing it out.

Cartoon – So that's what snakes looked like in those days.  And some of them still do.

    TC – Keep resting.

  7. 2:56  No fishies for that puddy tat tonight!

  8. TC, don’t worry about us! We will be here, waiting to see how you are doing. Stay inside and recover! You have had the worst thing that someone with COPD can have! And you will take more time to get over it. Take extreme care and we’ll hold down the fort!
Andy was supreme in his grading of the congress approval rating! They don’t have anything to boast about when it comes to the 2016 elections!
Stopping the Veteran’s Bills will have an enormous effect when it comes to who wants to vote for these supreme idiots! I wouldn’t be surprised if they get that one “token” veteran that will go along with their bogus claims!
Again, take care TomCat! We need your insight on these delicate matters and your help to decipher the BS that the repuglikkants dish kut!

  9. Hang in there an don't worry.  We know you are still with us and can wait until you are able to work again.  I love any of Andy's posts.  The cartoon is great.

  10. Puzzle — 2:56  No fishies for that puddy tat tonight!

The New Yorker — This one is funny to me and reminded me of a piece in Mediaite http://www.mediaite.com/tv/bob-schieffer-to-sen-cotton-do-you-plan-on-writing-north-korea-next/ .  Cotton and Kim Jong-un (R – NK), a match made in heaven.

The New Yorker — There was an article where the new "Issa" I think wants to have Hillary and her e-mails investigated.  Apparently though, he also has e-mail issues.  Perhaps the committee should investigate the e-mails of every congress critter and senior government official.  I wish I could find it.

The New Yorker — "…but added that “as of this week, Congress is basically flatlining.”" And I think that is largely attributable to the obstructionist, moronic Republicanus/Teabaggerum.  Question:  What is a KASHIT detector?  I`d understand BSHIT detector.

Cartoon — Like Jim, I thought lemmings at first, but when I googled to check spelling etc, I read this:

"These lemmings are found predominantly in tundra or high elevations. Populations can fluctuate widely and mass migrations do take place. This mass migration is probably the source of the myth that lemmings commit mass suicide. These intense population booms appear to be most common in the northern part of its range (such as Lapland).

Gestation is 16–23 days. Litters are 1-13 (7 average). Young are sexually mature after 14 days. When conditions are favorable, these demographic parameters allow for a veritable explosion in population size."

Not lemmings please.  We don`t need a population explosion of Republicanus/Teabaggerum!  Let`s go with St Paddy`s snakes . . . driving them all into the sea.

  11. New Yorker ~ I'm surprised Congress hasn't decided to declare war on North Korea because of all Kim Jung-un's threats and bomb testing.

New Yorker ~ No one investigated GW for his missing more than 5 million emails in 2007. http://www.salon.com/2015/03/12/the_george_w_bush_email_scandal_the_media_has_conveniently_forgotten_partner/

New Yorker ~ I'm surprised they aren't in the negative numbers yet.

    Cartoon ~  I wish!

  12. Thanks everyone.  Not much better, but at ;least, no worse.
